That's a good point, but Wardy has been in the USA since he was 2 years old. I'd imagine he has no memory of life anywhere...

Great. So now we have narrowed this down to if a rider has no memory of life anywhere else.

There's always that one guy who wants to be a smart-ass over a simple comment. Jeff Ward spent his entire life other than as an infant in the USA. There is a difference.

Either way, Marv's not on team USA and there is no chance he will be. End of story.
My intentions were not to hurt your feelings, but to point out the craziness in people making wild guesses at something they know nothing about. In all honesty I really don't have a clue what the rules and requirements are but if I were to make a guess it would be along the lines of what federation the rider is licensed from, regardless of where they are birthed, raised, or citizenship of their 2nd uncle!

We are talking about perception. After all MXON all comes down to bragging rights doesn't it? So what's the point of fielding a French rider. Who is French and holds a French passport as well as an American passport.

Well I am Canadian and have no dog in the fight for America, I was pointing out something maybe most people aren't thinking about. Kind of like winning a boxing fight with a KO over a decision. If MM 25 were to race for America, and they won, No doubt euros would say it wasn't a Legit victory
I would absolutely love for Dean Wilson to race for Canada,

My point exactly. If Liles can race for a country he had ZERO connections to other than a piece of paper, why can't a legal citizen of OUR country? Just asking.

I wouldn't be mad if Marvin raced for Team USA if he himself now considers himself a US citizen. But then part of me would much rather it be 3 home born citizens like Tomac, Anderson, Barcia, Baggett, Plessinger, Martin, Cooper, Forkner etc. We have so many guys who can win this thing for team USA that I wouldn't even consider bringing Marvin in. Send him to Peurto Rico's team along with Baggett and Forkner.

Imagine USA having Tomac, Barcia and Plessinger. Then Peurto Rico having Musquin, Baggett and Forkner. Either of those two teams could win and they would probably finish 1sr and 2nd. Marvin could really stick it to France by helping push them off the podium. It's not gonna happen, but it would be sweet.

As an American I would not want to have a rider on the US team that was not raised as a US citizen. Talk talk about having an Asterix next to the results! I can see it now, 2018 MXoN results.
1 USA* Tomac, *Musquin and Plessinger. Note Musquin became a US Citizen and when his team did not pick him he rode for team USA.
2 France Paulin, Febvre and Ferrandis.
We would be the laughingstock of the MX world!

Does it bother you that our team manager is not 'from' here?

To me Chad Reed is an Aussie and I would rather see him ride for Australia.

Kenny is German and Marvin is French, it would feel weird if they raced for someone else.

No way, Dean raced here in mini's then quickly rid himself of any Canadian ties when he moved south. Besides, Dean should be acting the way he developed that accent after moving to the states. Smile

Marv is getting the shaft without a doubt but Bam Bam has been working very hard for the honor.

I have no idea of Marvin's citizenship status. But, if he did take American citizenship status and had publicly announced it, embraced it (stars and stripes gear...waved a U.S. flag on the podium...etc) do you think the attitude would be different?

On a side note, I know government rules change all the time but I don't think the US acknowledges "dual citizenship" beyond the age of 18. My two oldest were born in England. At age 18 they received letters telling them they had to choose between British/American citizenship. It's a farce really because Britain doesn't acknowledge/accept renunciation of citizenship.

My son has dual citizenship (Canada/USA). The tip I would offer is to not show up at any border crossing and display more than one passport. They tend to not like that.

I'm not sure what Marvin's current status is regarding citizenship, but can ask this weekend. Do I think if he's available that it should change our team for this year? Mmm...not really?

Also, I don't particularly want to be "that guy", but if the rumor regarding of one of the members of Team Puerto Rico is true for this year, it's pretty much making a mockery of the race...and I have no idea how the "character" would get FIM approval. Also, I think a portion of the American fans would embarrass themselves by loving it.

Lol...it's a funny old world. No matter how old you get there's always something that makes you go Blink Silly Pinch . But, honestly...in the long run...a little crazy now and then helps break up the monotony. LITTLE being the key.
