Yes Herlings is great, but im sorry Musquin, Baggett, Barcia, Roczen, Anderson are all championship contenders. Meaning it is way harder to win races here in the US if you fuck up at the start. Don't tell me Fevbre, Gasjer, Desalle, Paulin are legitimate contenders, they all had their moments when Herlings or Carioli were either injured or started from the back to later get looked like tier 2 riders, because they are tier 2 riders. Tomac has a way harder pace to deal with/more riders at top level, if he does not get off the gate good and has made it look relatively easy most of his career.

That being said Marvin, Tomac, Bagget, Barcia, Herlings, Carioli, Roczen, Anderson have all shown elite pace. Do the math, tell me which series is harder to dominate, and youll reconsider who the best in the world is. Herlings would be injured every season trying to make up for his mistakes in the US, his competition is overrated imo which doesn't take anything away from him, he can win races here. Just not so easily like hes doing now, Americans aren't afraid to put you on the floor/fight back, when you are arrogant and thats the difference

Herlings coming from dead last to win at Ironman still produces posts like this. Wow, well done.

I don't know how anybody, American or not, could forget that. He came here, faced opposite time zones, different culture, different foods, on a track he had never ridden, different everything, and kicked everyone's ass. There is literally nothing anybody could debate on that one.

I think Tomac is the ONLY rider in the world that can match herlings pace. Herlings is too fast for cairoli judging by the last races. But for Tomac to keep Herlings pace he needs to be on one of his good days. Last time we saw herlings vs tomac was 2nd moto USGP, they both started together on lap 1 (compared to 1st moto when JH came from the back) but tomac ended up over 30sec behind JH in 3rd.

When a top GP rider proves they can deal with all the extra challenges supercross racing brings & wins a sx title then he will be considered the best. Until then second tier only.
This is the standard illogical cop-out. The Americans INVENT a spin-off sport, most of the world's not interested in it, then they circle the wagons and claim that you have to succeed in their invented sport to achieve the highest tier. Do people actually believe that?

I might argue that you have to win across a six-month schedule with 40 points-paying races on a diverse array circuits from hard pack to deep sand and everything in between. Nothing else demands that kind of consistency. Nothing else is even close.

If you think the "top tier" Americans can win at that (and I'm not saying none could*), then, by all means, they can go over there and show us. Then you'll see how much Supercross will have prepared them for that.

* Actually, there'd be two big problems: Cairoli and Herlings.

Maybe I missed it, but the actual statistics that matter are when they lined up together at the us mxgp & ironman
Herlings 1-1-2-1
Tomac 5-6-1-3

It would most likely be the same kind of picture with a full season.

Throw in all the various practice/qualifying sessions and races too. It's not a large data set, but what data we have is one-sided.

That’s the dumbest statement I’ve seen on this thread as you surely can’t be serious and you’ll see come October how fast those guys are!!

Just saying Barcia and Bagget are elite and Gajser Desalle, Febvre and Paulin are not is beyond me.

I must have missed Herrings showing up at Unadilla.

Anyway... both are great riders and fun to watch. Hope we get to see them go head to head many times.
Ironman whatever, you got the point anyway.

I would throw out any motos from Iron Man...it would be the same thing if Herlings was trying to wrap up a championship in America (I.e. when Webb and Forkner beat him at Charlotte).

I also wouldn't count practice laps. That isn't racing that is just a few laps, sure it is somewhat indicative but some people are better racers than they are at just clicking off laps.

Sure, and they all have one thing in common: Herlings was ahead. Every session save for one (USGP, Race 1). Something tells me you'd be throwing the rest right back in if Tomac weren't getting waxed.

Again, it's a limited data set, but it is heavily one-sided. It's not close. That's just fact. (And let's not pretend Tomac wasn't going for it in the first moto at Ironman; he crashed out trying to match Herlings' pace.)

I wouldn't, one moto Tomac was even pushing beyond his limits trying to compete with Herlings. But if it suits your agenda better, scrap it!

It will be funny when herlings crashes (again) trying to run US pace that isn't dealing with a championship or injury

It that the Barcia that only has a ride cos Davi quit, and Baggett thats yet to do a race at the MXoN and not get lapped?

Against 2 World Champions and a guy that went 1-1 at the Nations, on one of the 4 occasions that he has won it in the last 4 years?

Cairoli beat all of them , Herlings beat all of them , Paulin beat all of them , Febvre beat all of them

so whats your point ? they all can win against each other ? clearly you have a fragmented brain or so , as you only remember single wins ... only Tomac has multiple USGP moto wins on US tracks , those races he was on a different level.

off all the moto's at MXON from last 6 years , thats 18 moto's , only Barcia and Anderson has won a moto ...
The so called second tier MXGP riders won 16 out of 18 Tongue

Isnt that a sign levels are pretty even these days ?

The only person who can beat Tomac right now is Herlings.

Sorry but Gajser, Cairoli not a chance...

Do you really think Febvre and Paulin would be close? That's comical.

Cant wait until Red Bud, you guys underestimate the advantage of riding on your home track...

Tomac will split motos with Herlings at worst.

Well Herlings won the first moto and became world champion at Charlotte, he didn't play it safe.
