A visit of a Washougal national always was on my to do list so I just managed to book the flights today for the end of july. The area looks pretty sweet to me with it's deep woods and elevation and so on and since I'll be there for about a week or longer after the race, I was wondering if a little bit of riding would be possible over there. I heard a lot about the Boise area but unfortunately I don't have any valuable contacts regarding the sports there, plus I traced a topic here on vital that advises "Foreigners get off!" (which I can understand somehow)...So I found something different close to Portland. looks like hare scramble in a bike park or something like that
Not sure if thats a good idea but I'd really like to ride or race a little bit over there just to see some of the differences here and there. The main Problem: I' need a bike for that afternoon
So what do guys think? Is it possible to rent a bike for a day in general? I think business wise its not the best idea to rent out real dirt bikes so it wouldn't surprise me if theres no way to get one. Any thoughts or recommendations?

What's your skill level on the trails? Be honest and I'll setup a fun loop that corresponds with your skill level. If you tell me you're AA pro then that is the ride I will setup and the skill level of people I invite, so please be honest and it will be a fun and safe trip for all. I'm big on safety and making sure everyone goes home at night. I haven't lost anyone in those woods yet.....

I think I used to be not too bad at the races back then but since I got 40 last year with two kids and a bad case of epicondylitis on both sides I'm lacking in speed and fitness a little bit . So, not a podium contender anymore but I should be good for a day trip to check out most of the woods stuff I believe. I'm pretty sure you know how to ride rings even around the best riders if you know the area so well

I can't speak to the race format of the event you linked to, but have done a Hare Scramble at Washougal (which was my first race in about 20 years and first time back at Washougal in just as long). The track itself is surrounded by grass fields in one direction and forests in the other. There are trails all through the woods. The HS course used the full mx track, had a grass track through the fields (parking for the national), which was super fun and the closest thing to old school Unadilla I expect to ever experience, and then a bunch of trails up on the hill. Super fun event, even for 2.5 hours in August heat.

How do those trails look to you?
Roundtheoutside: I used to live in Sun Valley Idaho, if you're interested in riding the area outside of Boise (Idaho City is the place to go!) I can put you in contact with some people. Here's a video I took a few years ago out with a group before the race. Idaho and Oregon are my favorite places to ride but personally, I enjoy Oregon (Tillamook especially) over Idaho.

bleakness haven't we met before in slovakia last year? our paddock tent was just next to yours and I hung out a lot there...that dirt bike world really is a small one sometimes
And If anyone else wants to join in on the ride then feel free to post up. The trails range from mild to wild, so there's something for everybody out there. Once roundtheoutside and myself have a firm date I'll post it up.
I know this is a moto site, but if any western trail riders out there want to network then holler at me. I ride in CA 2-3 weeks per year (have family/property in South Lake and Mammoth Lakes), Idaho for a week and OR/WA almost every weekend. I do enjoy moto (that's why I'm here!), but riding remote single track is where I really want to be.
I've never raced there, but the Thursday Night race before the national usually attracts a bunch of fast national level guys, plus they have classes for everyone.

cwtoyota: I recall somebody talking about the thursday races at PIR on this board a while ago ( I think it was Jeffro) and I had a plan to go there because of that. Unfortunateley I'll arrive in Portland not until friday but probably I can check it a week later.
