Arlo Englund- I know he finished top 10 at least 3 times in 500 nationals and won a trans ama support class on a auto husky whipped but I think just had good factory support rides.

Maybe Jim Anderson from washington.

Gary Denton had 2 top 10 finishes in 81-82 125 nationals then retired to quads.I think his rep as just a local night racer hurt his chances.

Dave Taylor had one tryout in 78 when Barnett broke his shoulder and raced his works suzuki in 2 nationals then broke his collarbone in the second one.Taylor told me that his LOP suzuki worked better than the works bike.

Kenny Keylon rode a factory bike part of 82(?) season and was competing for the 250 National Championship but apparently was not considered a "factory rider". He was a replacement rider for I believe Magoo. Always thought Kenny would make it.

I see Denny Swartz in there too!! Denny was a badass and even won a the Red Bud pro national as a privateer Maico guy in 1980!! Just talked to Denny a few weeks ago and he is going to give Lorettas a shot this year in the new 50 class.

Hayden is a great kid, still lives up in Cambridge Ohio and works for the phone company. He got good support and still had it when he quit, actually he told Team Green he would take a little less support if they would not make him ride all the amateur nationals and they wanted to hold him back one more year so he said not thanks and walked away. He had some back problems too and said he just got tired of being sore. When he quit, he walked and never even went back to a track!!

Ohio also had Todd Poling from Lancaster. Once finished third or forth at the daytona supercross riding yamahas. Dale Spangler finished in the top 5 one moto at Red Bud years ago and always hauled arse! Charlie Sullivan from WV used to be the man on minis way back in the day and even for a year to two on big bikes. Chris Carte from Charleston, WV won a couple titles on 65 and was fast on minis before giving it up.

they both battled with villopoto in the NW from 60's-80's but when they made transfer to big bikes, batterson had a terrible injury that set him back. and harris just didnt have the financial backing or parental support to keep him going.

Craig Decker. Used to ditch school to go ride in the hills with him. Had the Honda of Troy ride then. He is fast and talented just had horrible luck with injuries.

a couple years back mark decided to enter a couple races after not riding in years. came out after like 2 days riding his kids 250f, and absolutly smoked the 30a and 40a classes. definatly a nice guy that cares a ton about the sport too.


I guess when my dad was racing Mark Flesia was the big name guy in the area that no one could beat. I never got a chance to watch him ride, but I have seen his kid, Chris Flesia, ride and race.

I think he won a couple of local championships (his son that is), but the last time I saw him at a local supercross he seemed to blend into the pack more than I expected. Still, I remember him getting some solid finishes, I just thought he would dominate after seeing him practice at some of the local tracks.

He was for sure fast by the looks and sounds of it .Maybe this bike above is the prev seasons bike for the supermini or 105 class . Only one person may know for sure, his dad . To bad such a tragedy had to happen. I think one of the mags should try to do a story on those 3 guys . Someone said that racer x shelfed it cause the familys wouldent speak of it still . Jody just recently did a dedication video to gone but not forgoten riders . Maybe motocross action could do it they must have had permission im sure to put their names in that video and the few pics they had of bruce and kyle . Maybe the familys would trust that mag to do it right . .

I still to this day say that the Supermini Final at Ponca City in 1993 was one of the gnarliest motos I've ever seen in person. Bogard vs Carmichael and they fought like two pits at the Vick compound for the entire moto.

Charlie Sullivan from WV used to be the man on minis way back in the day and even for a year to two on big bikes. Kevin Walker is fast but can't compete with top National riders. Made a name for himself at Lorett Lynn.

are you for real?beat mike brown the year he won the mx lites title all four motos at muddy creek a track they both use to race as amateur, as goes for emig, tickle, zach osbourne, taylor futrell, bradshaw, horton, and many others! maybe you should buy the racer x where they did a write up about the fastest amateur that never went pro... name kevin walker, i think he stole the cover also?>

i have heard Jeff Emig say Kevin Walker could run top ten in nationals no problem that was 2 or 3 years ago. i think Emig would know if he could.

Johnny Marley (fast and talented beyond belief, but couldn't make it happen)
Chase Reed (seemed to be hurt a lot)
Jacob Martin (injuries and IMO burned out a little there near the end)
Shawn Wright (burned out and quit in 1993 for about 8 years, then came back to run local pro and Vet stuff and work with his son Michael who has become a very fast mini rider)
Robbie Smith(I think his crash in practice at Dallas SX in 2005 changed him)


Funny story about Robbie Smith.
Him, Marley, Cory Green, Reynard, Ryan Voit, Demuth, and several other fast guys out of Texas showed up one weekend at Cooperland for a Loretta qualifier or an Okie state race (can't remember, it was a couple years ago) I was covering for Cycle News. In the 450 Pro class, Smith nailed the start and took the F off. Behind him in the first turn was a big pile up and it slowed everyone down a few seconds. Reynard and Marley both got bad starts and were held up in traffic for a bit, but Smith was out front just tearing it up.

Well, Reynard finally got into second and was just smooth as glass and not pushing it at all. On the last lap, he got to the top side of the track and Smith was lying in the mud by where the old sewer pipe used to seep out of the ground slightly. He was trying to get back up as RR17 went by.

After the race, I asked RR how he caught Smith who by then had almost a minute lead on everyone. RR says, "Huh? I thought he had crashed behind us and I was lapping him." But then I told him how big a lead Smith had and he almost didn't believe me.

So I then went to ask Smith what had happened and his response was something like, "Dude....it smells like shit up there! I'm covered in it!".
