I have been watching the MXGP races this year and all I have to say is TC and Herlings "The Silver Bullet" would make for one of the most exciting Outdoor season ever! Those 2 are on another level!

Now only if JS7 came back fit and ready to give it his all that would be insane. But I know that we have a better chance of seeing the 2 KTM boys racing the Nations this summer.

Do you mean the track marker? It's just a flimsy plastic one similar to the Acerbis ones

After winning the 2010 World Championships on the new 350, Antonio was intending to do several early SX rounds in 2011, in his words, "Just for fun". Much like Everts did many, many years before, after getting the 125 title.

But, from all that I gathered, KTM stopped/ vetoed him from doing it.

They wanted him to concentrate on his Real Job - that of winning more 450 World Championships on their 350. Fair enough. They pay him a small fortune to ride for them, they call the shots.

Antonio was quite good at SX, despite doing very little of it. He blew out his Knee at Bercy one year, in the typical , rather unspectacular cornering prang . Think of that one that destroyed RVs knee, but just a tad quicker. Shit happens, and it more than often enough happens in SX.

He had / has a job that KTM pay him very, Very well to do. And he's done that job for them magnificently. Hence them retaining him for the coming years.

I do remember him once just mildy snapping at questions of "when he was going to America". In the press conference after an Italian GP he'd just won, a few years ago.

He replied - "They Can Come Here". A perfect response, from a World Champion, when wankers were suggesting he go race in just another Nations Championship.

That's Assen.

What's frightening to me about that place is the two straights on the main straight of the Road Race circuit.

Absolutely No room for error, with dirty great big fences within about 5 - 6ft (and less) of the track. Gajser pranged there the first year, narrowly avoiding injury, but ripping a lever / master cylinder etc off his bike as it got tangled in the fence. Then also, there is the potential for a 'head on' in that section that is truly worrying. I was there the first year, and I really thought there could be some dreadful carnage happen in those areas.

The saving grace of Assen, Is it is Sand. And the enthusiasm of the Dutch / European crowd.

Tomac has shown on his day that he's every bit as good as Herlings and Cairoli and at times, better! We're never going to see them go at it over a season and that's arguably where Cairoli does shine brighter!

Whatever happens at Red Bud, it'll be the same excuses from all sides! But as you alluded to, it might be more than one American who could beat these two legends of MXGP on the day!

Honesty you can say he’s the best mx racer in the world. Even at his age now he’s just as strong when he was 25. Be Cool to see him in us nationals. Espically after seeing what herlings did last year

All good points. It will be interesting to see who ends up on team USA this season. Last season was such a down year with injuries so if Tomac, Anderson , Baggett , and Barcia can stay injury free It should make things interesting for the big bikes.
Also still waiting to see for sure if Osborne is going to be on the 450 or not.

If ac#222 and Herlings get top ten start at des nations they will go strait to the front regardless of who rides for us this year imo!! Most can tell that theses guys don’t have too much of a problem adapting to any track thrown at them as they ride some of the roughest tracks I’ve ever seen week in and week out!! Can’t wait till the showdown either way and Eli shows up healthy and motivated!!

You may be right, but just jeep in mind that Herlings and Cairoli aren't on the same team, so it may not matter. The USA has by far the biggest nation with the most quality riders, so they really should win it every year. (Call me crazy, but I'm thinking the USA should be able to take Latvia and Slovenia.)

Hey buddy and happy Easter as well and yes I sure hope we can pull it out and know red budd is one of tomacs and Baggetts best tracks but even with being from different nations those two guys they way they are going should individually be running up front without any disaster happening!! I’m just super ready for our outdoor series to start and next weekends race in Trentino should be epic as that race last year with cairolis ride was one of the best I’ve ever seen!!

Cairoli at Trentino was mind-blowing last year. He didn't actually win that second moto (give it time and people will say he did), but, wow, what a charge to second (and the overall).

Absolutely! Just picking Tomac at Red Bud for that race. AC's mental game is way too strong for Tomac over a whole series

I’m sure he will since it’s at a home track. I’m sure all the ones who have ducked the race for years will all the sudden be ready to go race the Des Nations this one year. Next year, they’ll be back to ducking it again. If it were me, I’d give Osborne, Covington, and Seely first choice regardless of what anyone else wants to do.

You know what? That's a fair point.

I kinda wonder if every moto is gonna be this way: Cairoli wins holeshot, takes early lead; Herlings makes a mediocre (or outright bad) start and burns through the pack; Cairoli and Herlings go head-to-head at the end.

I can live with that.

Totally agree, I was very disappointed with his performance at MXdN last year. He seemed almost disinterested. I'm sure that won't be the case this year

No way he would have destroyed Carmichael and Stewart or a lot of other US riders but he would have been competitive and could have won championships here.

Well ones things for sure is we don’t have a Ricky, James, or Ryan racing right now!! I agree with Rc not wanting to loose to anyone and I sure wish our pilots today had that same passion for this race and loved to ride for country regardless of money, schedule, and everything else but I know that has been beat to death on here too!! But come October we all will be pumped as hell again as we still have all the best lines up and it’s in freaking red budd as well!!

Cairoli was racing back when both RC and Stewart were in their prime so maybe that is why he stayed in Europe Wink

He’s a baller on the most demanding MX tracks in the world. Why go risk your career on the circus that is Deathcross.

That is why Cairoli and Everts had such long careers so I would have stayed in Europe too,but I would much rather have 1 Supercross championship than several world championships, to me that is the ultimate championship.

And that I will disagree. Back maybe 10 years ago I would totally see your point. But not anymore. Look at how many guys are out now, or out if contention. It just doesn’t have the same feel anymore. It’s a battale of attrition and luck. The skill has left to some extent. The racing has faded. It’s follow the leader lug your bike around track and try not to get hurt. That’s Deathcross in a nutshell.

Watch some of those GP videos this year. Just totally unreal skill level. Brutal tracks. That’s MX racing. SX is great. But no way I would trade that for a few GP championships. Not even close.

Crazy part is McGrath made it look so easy and effortless and he flat railed everyone and very rarely crashed and that was when the tracks were more technical. I think the reason for so many injuries now is the 450s are so good and so fast but that would be another thread altogether.
