I think if Reed can get some solid testing and training in now over the next month or so he will be within the top 10 and pushing for some top 5's by the end of the season depending on how races go for others. The opening passes he made early in the main would give him a bit more confidence as it's been awhile since being up front.
Yeah, no.

Actually, just to stir it up more... LaRocco was never a threat for a supercross championship beyond 1994.

3rd overall, 70 points back in a year the winner got docked another 25...

Not that any of this conjecture matters. There's no asterisk on the all time starts record that says you must finish in the top 10... indeed it's starts...

There is a finished in the top 10 record, but i'd imagine Reed is probably ok there also.

Hey whatever works. Limp along at the end like Peyton Manning to get a few more records, or be like Eli and decide not be gifted a record you don't deserve. Fact of the matter is Larocco was a threat antime he lined up, Reed now? Not so much, no matter how you try to spin it. Rc could show up in Texas next week and tune him up.

Larocco did very well in 2004, but in no way was he a "threat" to take home the title. Brayton is a podium away from having a comparable season to Larocco's 2004, similar age, doing a great job, but in no possible way is he in contention for the title. Reed beat, McGrath, Carmichael, Stewart, Villopoto and Dungey in their primes. One MX/SX hero he didn't ever beat in his prime was Larocco because in 1994 he was 12.

If you qualify for the main, how would you not deserve a record based on starts?

That's utterly retarded. Starts. Not finishes.

Write a letter to the TV crew to get them to talk about the top 5 percentages if you like, but that's a different race.

All Im saying is he is not nearly as competitive as Larocco was at the end of his career and that has been a fact.

reeds top 5 % is slightly worse now, but i will leave this here

True. But I think he will be improve and be more competitive (than he is currently) this year and potentially next year. He is basically out there on pure talent right now.

Like I said I'm a Reed fan, but he's not the old Reed and it's obvious he won't be again. I wish he'd prove me wrong, as I'm all for the old guys.

I agree he is not the old Reed but he is our (Australia's) god damn hero, so dont be down playing his achievements haha

To all those who think Reed should quit racing, I am sorry your life sucks. That is all.

I like Reed, but Mike finished his career as a competitor, Chad not so much. LaRocco could have easily milked another 24 starts or more if he felt like it.

LaRocco - 228 starts, 81 podiums, 10 wins, 0 titles.

Reed - 220 starts, 131 podiums, 44 wins, 2 titles.

If Reed was some wannabe that was racking up starts because he had no other achievements, then your argument would have some merit.

Do you reckon LaRocco would trade some of his starts for more wins and titles?

I have no problems with it. In fact I don't think many people care much about that record other than Reed and a few on this board. I would bet Larocco doesn't really care about it.

Imagine if RC or Bubba was out there taking up a spot on the gate and riding around in 13th just to achieve a record? This board would be in an uproar over it.

You mean like Pro riders turning up at LL's to pad their record at the ranch?

You can be unhappy about Reed getting the record in this manner, but let's give the man some credit and the benefit of the doubt. He was and is not prepared as well as he could be. This isn't strictly a lack of talent due to old age issue.

Reed could have been way more prepared if he just had ridden a bike during the summer, not sittning on the bike for like six months and blaming the lack of fitness on the injury he got this fall is pretty lame.

I get it that his ancle hurts, but the extra weight on his body has nothing to do with the injury...
Are you THAT retarded?? He had major surgery on his ankle 12 weeks from the start of the Supercross season. What did you expect him to do for cardio when you can’t run, bike or do anything that requires weight bearing on your legs?

You HAVE to be a millennial. Only you all are that stupid.

He had zero prep for the start of the season, zero testing on a brand new bike, it’s a production bike just like you and I buy and he’s qualifying for main events. What can you do on a dirt bike?

Maybe he's racing because he wants to? Maybe, if he's not fast enough to be there, some of the younger crowd should beat him in the qualifiers? Winning a main, probably not. Making the main, which is better than a lot of really fast guys can do, definitely!

In 2006 there were really only 4 guys who could win now there's about 8 , today's field is way more stacked

Yes, it’s obvious. Now that Reed is retired, we see how his career ended.Blink

I don't care if hes 12 or 37, always do the best you can. You ever race more than once? You must like it. Maybe he loves it. He could show up at your local spot, win by a mile, that's just not as fun!

I seem to recall RC dropping down to 125s in the last national of 2001 to tie or break Barnett's (?) record. If that wasn't the most sandbagging move I have ever seen...

Holy crap. I just saw the pit bits and Reed’s gear. The buttpatch shot is not flattering. Looks like he barely fit in his gear. 10 pounds of taters in a 5 pound sack. Get in shape man.

Showed up last night looking like the michelin man, with a bum ankle, two different size boots and qualifies for the main out of the heat showing a little of what’s left in the tank. Keyboard jockeys thick, thin and injured can’t stand what he’s doing and at best throw out the word “sandbagging”. News flash - he earned the spot and had he pulled out someone would have to be “gifted” a spot and you clowns would be bitching about “that guy” in some way, shape or form. Reed is making shit happen and you can’t stand it.

Chad checked up on the triple where I was sitting for the first two laps when he was up front, I was sure he was going to get nailed in the back like Bogle did.
That scared the shit out of me! He did it twice

Your comment or my observation? And that's funny coming from a guy with the name Life of Jazz. How far are you into your transition?

The funny part is that he is so delusional, he actually thinks he can still win. I've never seen a rider more full of excuses.
