Some scary shit going on here for sure.
Some one said it earlier... Maybe you are getting your excuse ready for the end of the season. Typical JS fan.
On a 25 point scale, a win over second should be more than 3 points. A "win" is the pinnacle of racing. It shows who is the dominant racer. The best.
When you reel off 7 straight wins and a DNF in 8 races, and your only "tied" in points with ANYONE else, something needs to be changed. Not so sure about a throw-away, but definately a larger gap between first-second-third points.
This "coasting" to a championship crap would be long gone if a larger chunk of points could be made up for "wins", as I feel it should.
Are you guys forgetting that JS started the season with an 18 point deficit while CR has finished ever race but one in second? WTF is wrong with the scoring system? Nothing.
"Finishing" second in 7 straight races is impressive. However, "Winning" 7 consectuctive straight races is a lot more impressive, and should have you leading the points.
Small example: Bubba DNF's Daytona due to a mechanical, and Chad wins. Bubba wins ALL remaining races and finishes the season with 14 wins, a second, a 2 DNF's. Chad has 2 wins, 14 seconds, and a third.
Chad wins the champonship.....
14 wins vs. 2 wins....Hmmmmmm......
Nothing against either rider, as they are the best the world has to offer. Just don't agree with the points completely.
If this was Forrmula 1 or NASCAR, Bubba would be leading the points now.
Pit Row
James can win 14 rounds total and Chad not win anymore, with Chad winning the Championship. The pressure is on James to not eff it up.
personally, i reckon we implement a play-off system....
You remember the old adage don't you?
To finish first, one must first finish.
in the old gp days a win was something like
1-25pts
2-20
3-15
4-10
5-8
6-6
7-4
8-3
9-2
10-1
and past that it was nada. a win would get big points but a 3 or 4 wouldn't, and a bad finish nada. that way you could dnf and still get back in it by winning...or placing up near the front consistently. does that make sense?
I do like Bobby's GP points example. makes more sense, but maybe somehow get points all the way down to last. Just more of a spread up at the top 5 level.
To be perfectly honest, the NASCAR points system would work great. Bonuses for fastest qualifier and laps led would make things a little more exciting all day and night long, and the points would reflect more of the truth of the series.
His front wheel locked up in the mud at A1 that year while leading or in 2nd place late in the race...
