While Cairoli definitely has thrown in the towel, I doubt he is riding like this because he's tired.

Do you think Herlings will have anything to say to Cairoli after the race about TC trying to take his front wheel out multiple times?

Indeed. Although you could argue with Herlings incredible technique he's using less energy

Yeah I doubt it too. He just realized he had nothing for Herlings anymore and checked up.

I would, those 2 moves were too aggressive in my opinion. No need of going for the front wheel twice like that.

Yeah, and by the end he was making tons of mistake and looked absolutely spent... He had speed to challenge Herlings, but probably realized that either he or Herlings would crash if they continue like that. And we know that Herlings has nothing to lose.

Just like CR22 and RV2 back in 2012 in Texas, when Reed crashed. RV said that he would let CR go by in a lap or two if reed didn't crashed

+3

Cairoli knew it was game over after those two poor laps, first when the backmarkers got in the way, then his following poor lap. It was game over from there and the win was unlikely, why continue to push when you're that far ahead of 3rd?

The better man won in the end and that was Herlings. Hats off to him! Great race!

Just as Herlings wasn't used to being challenged in MX2, I don't think Cairoli is used to being challenged in MX1 round Lommel - both guys took things to the edge of destruction for the first 15 mins, and were probably spent at the end, Tony especially. He did look knackered. But from his pov it'll be sweet when he gets that title again.

First place finished a minute ahead of the 7th place guy the 461. A minute is a long time. Incredible.

Seriously what the hell is Paul Malins problem with Herlings, every god damn chance he gets he rushes to crap on Herlings in one way or another.

Yeah, couple incidents that were a bit close. I'd rather he back it down a touch to help guarantee the championship.

Tony should not have gone for his front wheel the first time it passed him, messed his game and probably pissed JH off. Was surprised to see Tony's best lap be a second quicker didn't think that would happen, didn't matter in the long run but still surprising.

Herlings today doubled the amount of times Cairoli has been beaten at Lommel in MX1, from two to four motos.

We're witnessing something special between them eh, the old and the new going at it even though this championship is over! Next year will be off the richter, will Cairoli win a 10th title and retire or will Herlings take his first in the premier class and assert a dominance over it for years to come.

I Just checked. Since round 6 (where herlings began to come to life) Herlings has only lost 3 points to Tony. Pretty amazing...

Yeah, next year could be epic. Hopefully TG will step it up to add to it.

I don't think that it was just a case of Cairoli backing it down, he looked tired to me. He had a horrible couple of laps making uncharacteristic mistakes and he looked terrible compared to how he looked at the start of the race. I'll be interested to watch the race back, I wasn't able to see any of the passes clearly from where I was standing so I didn't see Cairoli's agressive moves.

Herlings was almost perfect all weekend long. He looked like he had the overall on lock from free practice
