Without injurys TG would be right there this year, Don't forget TG won his 2nd GP of the year after 4 races and at one point while healthy he won 5 of 6 motos. Injurys are a part of the game though.

He had a rough day, no doubt.

He went down in the second moto at some stage as well.

Won a moto at the last GP, so I think he is ok now.

Yeah I doubt it too. He just realized he had nothing for Herlings anymore and checked up.

Yeah, and by the end he was making tons of mistake and looked absolutely spent... He had speed to challenge Herlings, but probably realized that either he or Herlings would crash if they continue like that. And we know that Herlings has nothing to lose.

Just like CR22 and RV2 back in 2012 in Texas, when Reed crashed. RV said that he would let CR go by in a lap or two if reed didn't crashed
Cairoli is not stupid and he stated at the end of the second moto that Herlings was more motivated to win the GP and he couldn't take too many risks as he needs to start thinking about the championship.

He entered Lommel with 92 points gap on second position (Desalle) and he exited Lommel with 99 points advantage (Herlings) and one less race to go.
No wonder why he did not push till the end of the moto (and he still got the fastest lap of the weekend).

5 more GPs to go = 250 points.

Cairoli hasn't got it in the bag by a long shot, and, as I wrote before, he sure as hell shouldn't do a Herlings. As in, get hurt, and lose a good lead.

As Herlings said himself, AC got Ottobiano, he got Lommel. As AC said, Herlings was better today, with massive motivation to win, and he has a Title to think about.

Both pretty complimentary about each other.

Dirty riding? Pretty bloody mild, to me. Their lines came together in the first incident, then Herlings 'played', and then AC, and so on.

Malin hating Herlings - he gives him plenty of admiration.

I think a fair few here may need to go find some tiddly wink matches to watch, if you are stressed by all the rough riding and bad men not loving your particular favoured rider, at all times.

And, as ever, with nearly every bloody post by fans of one or another rider, we get if, if, and ever more bloody Ifs.

What has happened, happened - no amount of If'ing and bleating can ever change things. Grow the fuck up!

Good racing, on a brutal track, is what I saw.

Herlings would be in the mix for the title for sure .. first 6 races with injury and not being able to train as usual made him drop a lot of points ... you need to be fit in MXGP to battle for wins , look at Cairoli last 2 years

Todays race was awesome , a dog fight between the 2 best sand riders , didnt see any real dirty moves , let em race
Questions about herlings fitness no longer needed , as in second moto he had more gas as Cairoli ..who had to settle for second and looked gassed , making a lot of mistakes and dropping anchor . Not seen it happen this season with Cairoli

The US based riders never even race a track half as rough as this one. Gnarly stuff.

Cairoli gave it 100% as did Herlings, I would say they were fairly evens but Cairoli has to think of the championship. No benefit riding on the edge, especially in those conditions.
He definitely backed it off after a few mistakes, Herlings had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

They were in no way even on that track. Herlings has been a notoriously slow starter this year and he eased into both motos before dropping the hammer. By midpoint in the second moto he was at least two seconds faster than anyone in that field.

I would be interested to see the lap times, looked more like cairoli backing out of it after a few mistakes than herlings speeding up. In those conditions it can be hard to tell.

The 2 things that beat Herlings at Lombardia was a stomach bug & the heat.

Cairoli was faster in three of the first five laps and set a lap time basically a full second faster than anything Herlings had done all weekend bar free practice on Saturday. Moving onto lap 10 and Cairoli was still within 2 seconds of Herlings, he lost time with backmarkers later that lap, tried to pick it up again on lap 11 and chucked the towel in on lap 12. That's breaking him early?

The Swiss GP should be good but what will likely change? Cairoli doesn't need to win, doesn't need to fight 100%. If it was a points chase, different story, but 2nd place is 99 points down. It's lost it's luster, it's over. We're hanging on to Herlings getting poor starts, the pride of Cairoli to fight or Gasjer and Febvre stepping up to make it interesting.

Roll on 2018, until then there's gonna be a bunch of had the 2017 championship started at x, the points would be...

Is herlings so polarizing that he can start behind cairoli and win by 25 seconds in both motos but somehow not be better?

Deja vu!

You've already replied in this vein on this topic bro, even though I stated 'Herlings was the better man' previously.

Jeeze, selective sight is shite!

Looking back I think Herlings has Cairoli well covered in the sand speed wise. Does anybody think that if there start roles where reversed AC would be able to catch JH ?

AC still the king for me though and I'm sure he wants as many GP wins as possible. If he knows he is faster than anybody in front he's going to go by !

Herlings has been a slow burner , doesnt go almost till it its too late.. He passed AC straight away in both races, and AC didt have owt in race 1 and in race 2 he went after JH but couldnt stay there. He didnt look comfy, Herlings was on rails.. was there trackside , JH had the upper hand AC was hanging on.
