Thoughts after a couple of hrs.. (Everything on as hard as possible, physics, AI etc playing as official GP riders).

Pros

The physics are a massive improvement in all areas imo. Scrubs and whips are still a little bit counter intuitive to engage (I don't understand why they don't just go for a system where you move both sticks on the face of a jump in the SAME direction you want to go - surely that would feel more natural than anything?), but once the bike is thrown (animated) out it's entirely down to the player to pull it back - the interesting part is that you can control how much you want to straighten up. A couple of jumps leading immediately into corners and I purposely angled the bike (didn't straighten up all the way) so as to land at a suitable angle into the turn. Very badass feeling when it works!

Cons

I'm not seeing the terrain deformation. I'm doing 10 lap races and not noticing any great deal of difference, if any. I haven't tried all the layouts yet though, and perhaps with longer racing it'll become apparent??

Tied into the last point - Lommel is once again disappointing imo. It actually feels less sandy and rough than a hard packed circuit. I don't know why they can't get this one right (unless the terrain deformation is disengaged somehow on my copy) it never gets rough in the slightest.

Edit: Terrain deformation is there but personally I think it's very mild (mostly visual), not greatly affecting gameplay, unlike Reflex.
One of my biggest gripes in 2 was that once you scrub/whip, you let go of the sticks and then it's basically up to God that you land correctly. There's like no control after the whip for the remainder of the flight. I won't be able to get it until the 20th here in the US but from what you're describing it sounds like that issue might be fixed??

The scrubs are a little better, but not much. It's basically the same scrub as MXGP 2 but you can control the bike a little more. The animation is the same really, but rather than going off in a straight line you can control how long you hold the scrub for and turn a little better.

After playing this game a little while, I think it could be good if it wasn't for all the bugs and how basic the tracks are.

I just tried doing a MXoN race as team GB, but after the first race i had to pick an Australian rider. Australia weren't even in the race! I got 9,000 credits for finishing 0 place.

The online mode says that every match is in the lobby. The matches that are in the lobby work fine, but if you join a match that says it's in the lobby but has actually started, the games kicks you out of the multiplayer mode entirely. Right back to the start menu.

Seems like the moto 2 glitch is still there.

The sound is better, but all the bikes still sound like kazoos. The YZ450 is back firing like crazy! Also, when you hit the rev limiter, it sounds like a glitching sound rather than an engine hitting the rev limiter. It sounds like when a game freezes or something. And when it's raining you're on the limiter almost all the time, unless you shift up to 5th, or cruise around nice and steady.

The tracks are a bit lame. Really easy to ride, the jumps are just big mounds you can hit flat out with not penalty. No skill required.

The scrub is, as Motocross83 says, counter intuitive, it's also not much of an improvement on the last game.

Despite my hand ups, I actually thin that if they sort the bugs out, and fix the multiplayer bullshit, it could be a good game. It's certainly not a simulation, not even close, but it is fun once you get going. Is it worth £40? Not really. Is it worth £40 + £12 for the season pass (two or three extra tracks in the future)? Hell no! Hopefully this drops in price a little, it's a bit rip off as it stands.

I wasn't really happy with MXGP, and i hated MXGP 2, it was awful IMHO. However i do like #3 in this series, good enough physics even though the scrub/whip physics is a bit hard to master. Career mode is good with the customization, and graphics in good as well. I do have one question though.

I won the MX2 championship for the Gariboldi team (1st season) so when it was time to go to the next season i didn't have any 450 offers. I choose to race "my own" team where i have a race-kitted 450 in the garage, however it automatically chooses MX2 and i cannot figure out how to race the MXGP (450) class. Do you have to do two seasons in MX2 before you can move up?

When you pick a sponsor, they specify whether or not they sponsor you for MX1 or MX2. I can't remember where it says it, but when you are looking at sponsor offers it will say it in there somewhere.

I was able to play mxgp3 today and I can say I like it way more then the first 2. Yeah it still has an arcade feel to it but the bike sounds are way better and I do enjoy the scrubs you can do lol. To me it feel way faster in gameplay I felt like I was haulin ass in my race today.

OK, since starting a career I'm very much getting the terrain deformation that everyone was on about. Weird thing is that if I just do a regular one off GP (I did 20 laps of Lommel just to make sure) it doesn't, or barely, shows. I don't know if a bug, but in any case I'd like to correct that point.

On another note; one of the devs chipped into the Steam forums today and said that they're hearing the feedback from everyone and are already working on updates, which will include tougher AI.

It's definitely better, though not fixed - the actual whip/scrub is about the same but you have significantly more freedom on the return. The move I described is more the exception rather than the rule but it is pretty neat for really angling into that inside if the conditions of the jump (a couple of ideal ones round Losail) allow. Not really necessary but fun.

How come the bikes backfire so much? It's like we're back in the carb days and everyone is running lean as hell.

Good lap, the next comment isn't aimed at you. Smile

After seeing that video, I am genuinely shocked that this is what the premier console MX game looks like in 2017!

It looks like the bike is simply floating over the terrain and no significant affect to the bike when moving across the ruts.

I am sure that the replicas of tracks, bike and riders is the best of any game, but IMO Reflex or even Superfly had better bike and rider physics! I guess the developers can either spend the budget on official riders, gear, tracks, bikes etc, OR on physics/gameplay.

I just can't get over the ordinary physics, for a game that has licensed some of the roughest tracks in the world!

I can't stand the scaling of the game. Jumps are so tiny wtf. The big single in Valkenswaard after the start has the size of a roller in the game. The huge step down right before the finish corner is like a third of it's actual size.

I mean WTF is this shit

Aus_Rider_22, completely agree with you. 2017 and it's, honestly, nothing more than a shitty game at premium pricing.
Lets use this phrase one more time: "Bring back Reflex!"

Yeah man I agree I did enjoy mxgp2 but it didn't keep my interest for long (strangely I enjoyed the stadium races more mainly cause it was a lot harder) and seeing that vid I'm not that enthused on getting 3 at the moment
You need the track to keep it interesting and if ya just floating over it without any trouble shit gets boring..

I'll prob still buy it though haha

After playing through more tracks this is the one big thing that bugs me. After being at Kegums just a few weeks ago, that really stands out how far off the scale is on some of the jumps. And as people have mentioned Matterley Basin is really far off. And Valkenswaard. And so on. I would think they have toned down on the jump sizes so that people wouldn't just overjump every jump. Then again, the last two I've ridden, Talavera and Saint Jean, are reallyreallyreally fun and especially at Saint Jean the jumps seem bigger and steaper and you really need to let of the gas on a couple of jumps to not overjump, which I think is way more fun than hitting every jump wide open and barely getting any airtime.

(2.) I'd bet we have several trolls from MXGP's competitors mucking it up. Count on that....
All the mx sim losers will bash it and bash it and then talk about how great sim is

I seen someone say there was a moto 2 glitch. Is that why after my first moto it skips the 2nd and puts me and another race?

Manual shifting makes it much easier, auto shift its like Barcia riding it just constantly on the rev limiter, in manual shift I just click 4th gear and hardly shift from there.. I like how the ruts hold you in, it usually takes to lap 3 before the ruts form. Its much improved but I only play 1st person view the other way its to floaty and controlled for me to get into but 1st person view is really good . Once you get your rider to at least 70% everything starts flowing better .
