Here's my set up for 1/2 a garage. I Just used some build em yourself shop cabs from Home Depot different modules mix and match keeps stuff organized...usually a bit messy right now. Compressor, parts washer, and sit at work bench to the left behind the toolbox hard to see.

Wow! You guys have some nice work spaces there, keep em coming. I need some inspiration too, I'm gona start building my carport into an insulated garage this summer, I have the building approval from the council. I will be putting an automatic door, concreting the floor and insulating it for our upto -25°c winters in sweden, at the moment I keep my bikes in a tiny hobby room, it's the only place I can keep warm in the winter. I'm hoping to build my garage to look something like jessy nelson's, (wishful thinking, but I can dream)

Just got into insulating and drywalling my new garage, bought garage cabinets and epoxy for the floor. right now I have a full day ahead of me sanding the drywall getting ready to paint. I'll see if I can get some pics

I just discovered a large section of my epoxy floor all flaked an came off . I suspected it might happen because of the condition of the floor when I did it . Old weak concrete looks to have come apart . Still an amazing product ,I took a gamble using it.

Ok, here's my garage build.

I started with a basic concrete floor 24x36 insulated pole barn, with 1 10' door, but essentially 2 vehicle bays. I wanted to keep the door side open for my personal truck, and use the other side for bikes.


When I started, here is how the bike side looked


I added peg board, OSB, some strategic outlets, led lights and switches.

Next, I got a stainless steel worktop from a restaurant that closed, and wired outlets into the splash guard of the bench. I also picked up 2 filing cabinets on the side of the road, and with some paint and an old door, made another bench.




I ran hose from my air compressor to a hose reel centrally located on the support post for the loft. I also started to hang all my tools and memorabilia up.








I went to Floor Trader and got a 12'x17' price of vinyl flooring for $250. This was way cheaper than a quality epoxy, and to this point I absolutely love it. Easy cleanup of oil and gas, hell.... I even spun my zero turn on it once not thinking!


Here are some shots all finished with bikes.






All together I'd say I have less than $750 into the whole reno. With paint, electrical, the floor and peg board it wasn't too expensive.
what did you use to fill the contraction joint in the garage?
i want to lay vinyl in my garage to but i have the typical 2 car garage with 2 contraction joints making a cross in the garage. i have read to put a special filler in it. buts its special price!


reason for vinyl is itll be easy to put in, easy clean, and when i see wear i can tear it up and get another piece.

Moto Hose is a 1 man home based business and after adding street bikes and radiators we have exploded and have out grown my 19.5x38 741 sq ft 3 car garage. We are in the process of having a 28x56 1568 sq ft built that gives us 827sq ft of additional space for growth..... wife would like a garage to park inside of too Smile

Waiting on 2 builders estimates.

My concrete doesn't have the contraction gaps. I would imagine you could just lay it down like I did and let it float. The only thing holding my floor down are the work benches and the support post for the loft. If there were expansion joints, I don't think the floor would care, it would just float on top.

i wanted to glue it down, and to get it to lay perfectly i would have to fill the contraction gaps with something and the epoxy stuff is expensive. dont want a crease or indention in it.
i thought i saw it in your picture thats why i asked.

Invest in a good security system but don't advertise it on forums and for sure don't post that stuff on any social media sites. Insure everything, record serial numbers and take lots of photos. People love to show off thier stuff/layouts and details; then they wonder who broke in and ripped them off of thousands of dollars worth of stuff.

My Dogs are wondering WTF? I'm used to being with them walking..ect then the garage project came along.

Most of you know me from the Masonry Gazebo so this is almost as epic........Almost

Or if you have cracks that go across the floor ...what to do?

Couple shots of my barn still during reno a couple years ago, I've changed a couple things and am planning an addition already.

Look at lots of different set-ups and pull ideas you like from each. I like hiding everything behind cubboard doors such as my air compressor, mini fridge, (stocked with beer), shop vac, and all chemicals etc...

Prep is key, just like any good paint job. I acid etched my concrete, the used the primer that came with this setup. Then the grey topcoat, color chips, then finally a clear topcoat. Then let it cure for about a week before rolling in the heavy tool chests.

Finally a update! The builder moved our close date a week back forcing my wife, my 6 month old, and I to move in with my parents, which was quite the chore, but our house is finally complete. Had and electrician out today to set up some outlets and unfortunately because of the wall being on the edge of the house and the pitch of the roof, he had to run conduit. Not as clean of a look as I'd like but not the end of the world. Also had 3, four foot led lights put in. One picture below is with them on and another is roughly what it was like before. Needless to say, quite the improvement.

It's also 10 at night here so this should be plenty of light to work with. I went with the advice above and got the car guy garage epoxy kit and did the etch clean tonight and will continue with the primer tomorrow.

Good move to get the floor taken care of right away. Once you get stuff in the garage it's hard to get up the motivation to remove everything temporarily. I should have done mine when I first bought my house but I didn't and it still isn't done.

Speaking of the garage, I just finished redoing mine.






Even made a spot for the wife's van.

Self leveling caulk, its sort of expensive (for caulk). But watch a video or have someone show you how to use it because it does exactly what it says, it free flows and self levels so it runs everywhere.

My floor was cracked and uneven . I bought a cheap grinder and masonry wheel from harbor freight and ground the areas even and feathered it back about a foot . I poured hydraulic cement in the cracks til they filled up . So far so good.

Well I've been bustin' my balls, my wallet, and my wife's patience to get this setup finished and it's pretty much there! The Car Guy Garage epoxy kit turned out great. It was a 4 day process between the etch cleaner, primer, epoxy, and topcoat which seemed to take forever since all I wanted to do was move all my stuff in but it was well worth it. Kept pretty true to the plan I had drawn up, the only thing I didn't do was mount the large cabinet on the wall due to the 4 inches of concrete sticking out from the drywall at the base of the floor. I mounted the legs of the tool bench so the top backs up to the drywall but there's a gab behind the chest and cabinet but I think I'll live. After leaving the cabinet on the floor, it matched the height of the tool chest so that worked out pretty well. All that's left really is unloading everything from the old red box to it's new home... and getting a mini fridge full of beer.

Keep it simple and keep it clean. I have 1 workbench from Lowes, 1 cabinet, 1 toolbox, 1 air compressor and 1 small shelf rack. I keep spare parts in the attic. The more shelf space and more cabinets you have, the messier you'll be and the more unused/unnecessary crap that you will leave laying around. It does not take a lot of shelf space to work on bikes.

Save your money for the bikes and riding expenses. People will have you mortgaging your entire future just so you have a cool pic to post on the web. And then you end up moving and now some guy that sits on his couch watching football all weekend gets your sweet garage just to park his minivan and store his golf clubs in.
