Could be that the track was extra gnarly. Some guys were not comfortable on that for sure. That's a fast track to get that rough and rutted. Plus nobody wants to get hurt first race.

Herlings also had a great mxon on the 450. And he struggled massively the first 5 rounds. You never know whats going on with these guys. Bike setting and confidence takes time.

I definitely see him as a rider that has the potential to have 450 Championship level speed-consistency/talent. Most riders have an adjustment period when moving up to the 450s. Look at how much trouble Roczen has had up to this point besides the arm. Carmichael even struggled when he moved up. Cooper I can definitely see as at least Anderson speed and probably faster.

If you run a multivariate regression analysis of his past finishes and practice times, then account for the geometry of the YZ450F, you can easily conclude that this is all totally stupid and it was his first race and give him a break. He's fine, the bike's fine, the team's fine.

I think he did great, got good starts and looked like he might have gotten a little tight both races... If memory serves me correctly he hasn't ever been that great at Hangtown. I think once he gets a few more races under his belt and the series comes east things are going to get real interesting for #2!

I dont believe it is a stretch to say that he was quicker outdoors on a 450 at the end of 2015 then he was this weekend. He will start gelling and uping his results soon I think.

Barcia 2015, two National wins and a Des Nations moto.

Febvre 2015, World Champion with multiple wins and the other two Des Nations motos.

It aint the bike.

If you are hiring Webb to be the guy that backs up the guy ... then 5-9 is ok.. but Yamaha hired him to be THE GUY .. and the only one at that . Huge pressure that wasnt there in his one off rides in the past.

It was one race. If I go to Red Bud and he hasn't started hitting the podium then I will be worried. Cooper seems to build up momentum over time in both a series and individual motos. I think he will get it going over the long haul and end up at least 3rd in the points this summer.

Dungey was just outside the top five in both motos his first time on a 450 in a much weaker field. And he's an all time great. Plus he's never been great at Hangtown. If he's not getting top fives and battling for podiums at any point this year then I'd be worried if I were Yamaha.

I think it' the bike that's causing him problems, although I think he's good enough to eventually find a way to ride around the bike issues. Time will tell.

RV went 1-1 in his first 450 National then injured his knee second round, it sucked but sure wasn't because he was sucking.

He went 4-5 last year at Hangtown and had a pretty slow start to the year, and everyone was asking what was wrong with him...until Tennessee.

It's just one race. Give him some time.

How often do we see rookies go out there and wad it up in the first round trying to podium, and then all the keyboard warriors pile on asking why he didn't back it down and take it easy.

B/c every rookie is hyped up to go undefeated and win titles right away... happened with Tomac, Barcia, Baggett, etc. the list goes on.

Truth be told I'm surprised that threads aren't started after each moto, no each lap about how a rider can or can't win....

I'll also add that I think Honda will make a big run at Cooper in a couple years. If Roczen never returns I feel like it's very likely that Cooper could end up on a Honda when he's in his prime.
