This is one of those shake my head topics. I can't believe people can't see the value in NBC Sports Gold service.

The people that seem to be mad about it got their live internet viewing option takin away. Which I thought was the dumbest shit I have every heard of, Log in with your cable provider to watch on the internet. Thats like using my Applebee's gift card to purchase a car wash.

You pay for cable, you watch it on cable. You pay for internet now you get to access the races that are broadcasted on the internet like before. Imagine that.

Imagine going riding and having the option to watch the outdoor nations live on your phone while camping at the track. Set up a TV and watch outside with your buddies. How much is that worth?

I think it is great and a great value.
Applebees is a horrible restaurant and I wash my own vehicle!!!

NBC knows what their doing....cashing in on monkeys that think it is a good value.

Hey Markee, don't know if you saw an earlier post I made about how I put the big screen out on the pool deck and watched the racing while swimming, having a cold one, and tending a couple of plump hens I had in the smoker. NBC Gold and Chromecast greatly contributed to an awesome Saturday!
Wow! You are awesome!!

We all wish we were you.

Hell yeah Harry, sounds awesome!

Hey at first I though you "tending a couple of plump hens" meant you had some corn fed gals in the pool with ya. That would be awesome too.

Haha! I'm real close to the Georgia line, so shouldn't be too hard to find a couple of corn-fed gals. Wife probably wouldn't like it!

How do you see the value in paying for something that didn't require an extra payment last year or the year before that? You guys act like paying for this stream is going to fund some privateer's season or something, it's going to make NBC more money and anyone who actually matters to us is going to see jack shit from it, you're just feeding the machine. If you think being able to log in and watch content available on tv is dumb then I don't know what to tell you, tons of other sports do it and it's not an issue. I can't believe you're happy to have to shell out more money just to watch the same thing you got last year for no additional charge.

I'm still on the fence, I honestly don't want to buy it just for the premise of what they're trying to do, it's shady and lame to make people pay extra for content they already got.

JM, I got rid of DirecTV, so I'm actually saving money every month. Look, in the end it is a personal choice. Several of us have said why we like it. You don't have to agree.

At the end of the day, all the back and forth on here is not going to make a difference. You have a choice now - you can pay and get premium content, or not pay and watch it on the TV provided by your cable/satellite provider.

I don't mind the app so far but they really need to get it to work on roku so I can watch the races on my tv instead of a tablet.

I will watch moto 2 and get the moto 1 recap, and all for FREE.
NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN NBC
You're already paying to watch moto with your monthly provider bill.

I'm not in love with it but I am in love with MX therefore I purchased it. At the 11th hour I figured out I couldn't see the MX content in the NBC Sports Gold app using my Roku. I ran out and bought a FireStick so I was out another $40 (not the end of the world because I had been putting off getting a streaming device for my garage TV). The part of it I really am not fond of is that all we get is the wonky TV feed, it is fine while Weege and Grant are announcing but all the other weird moments like the shot of Monaco, the shot of the track where nothing is going on, the coverage will resume momentarily screen, all the funky crap that goes on during the commercials. I'd almost rather see the damn commercials! I would be a lot happier if somehow they could cater to the subscribers with some filler content instead of leaving us hanging out in the breeze at those moments. And I also find it kind of silly that I have to quit watching and re join every moto, seems like it should be seamless while I am logged in and watching. It has a lot of room for improvement imo!

It was awesome! I watched the races on an Iphone, with two bars of service, up in the mountains sitting around a campfire. Never had a single hiccup.

Fair enough. I have no problem with them offering the commercial free version, it's the fact that they took away the replays that they used to offer as well as practice and are trying to force people to pay more for basically nothing new. It just doesn't sit right with me to take advantage of people like that, I never had issues with the stream before so it just seems like a money grab to me.

Plus, you know, I'm saving up for a factory ECU so I can be competitive at the races again. You should have seen me trying to ride with a stocker, might as well have had a banana in the tail pipe bro!

Get a Chromecast. You can use it for so much more than the races too. Well worth it, and so easy to install and set up. Once installed, just hit the cast button on the app and send it right to the big screen.

Hopefully, one day, these "smart" TVs, will come with the ability to get any app you want, then you won't even need a Chromecast. My "smart" TV came loaded with about 100 apps, but without the ability to get more apps. There's probably 3 of the preloaded ones I use. The rest I have to get through my phone and cast them to the TV.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That ECU makes all the difference. I tell you what though, trying to get one is very difficult. I'm still waiting for someone to take advantage of my offer down in my signature line.

Seriously, I do get where you're coming from. They should at least let folks see the archive - if nothing else a day later.

Also, I did notice Saturday's gig at Hangtown ended up on YouTube pretty quick. If memory serves, by Saturday evening.

Premium content? Sorry but I don't agree. We got content but it sure is heck isn't premium.

Well, Mike, I didn't set out today to become the defender of all things NBC Gold, but I really had no problem with the content I got on Saturday. I read your previous post, and I just didn't see it that way. There were a few hiccups along the way - like what you noted - but that was so minor to me. Most of the time the music that precedes the commercials would come on, we'd get a few moments of silence from Weege and Grant and then they'd be right back at it. I believe they have to stop talking when they cut to and from commercials, but I don't know the technical reason why.

Other than that, I thought it beat the heck out of watching commercials. I especially liked getting the first moto in HD. I couldn't even read the freaking rider numbers on MAVTV in past years. I was especially happy to not have to wait until 9:00 pm (or whatever) to watch the second moto - providing the dog show didn't move it back later.

Like someone else said, roughly $1 per moto plus no commercials, HD quality and a huge race archive? That's worth it for me IMO. I don't have MavTV and wasn't willing to pay for an extra cable package for a channel I'd otherwise never watch, so this made the most sense...

I'm not seeing your comments as such, I just feel that If you want to call your app NBC Sports "Gold" and ask us to pay for what we didn't pay for in the past (even though we did indirectly...lol) we should get more than just the standard TV feed. The camera shots, the commentary, the race track (except for the excessive ruts) and the racing were all top notch! Maybe the things that I criticized will be addressed somewhat and they will clean it up. I wish that one of the MXGP subscribers would give us a comparison write up.

You're in luck! I subscribe to MXGP. Unless I'm completely clueless (admittedly possible) MXGP doesn't have an app. I have to go through their website and cast it to my TV - which is not hard - it's just that there is no "Cast" icon most of the time on the website. I'm not sure why. Sometimes it is there, sometimes it is not. Hopefully a GP bro over the pond will read this and straighten me up.

I watched the latest race yesterday. I don't know if it was something on my end, if they completely screwed up the audio, but just about 80% of all 4 motos, the audio kept cutting out badly. For one moto it went out completely for most of the moto.

Other that that, it is usually pretty good. Better? Overall, maybe a little.

So evidently the MXGP subscription has it's issues also. I am glad that I have the opportunity to watch these races live like this and not be at the mercy of when it is on TV but that doesn't mean I won't be critical of things and ask for an improvement in the service. I guess I am just doing the "bad cop" routine a little bit because of all the commenters who seem to be super pumped just because we have this app Smile

Yeah, maybe I should change the title of this thread to something like, "NBC Sports Gold - it's Not Magic - But it Ain't Bad."

I guess I am just doing the "bad cop" routine a little bit because of all the commenters who seem to be super pumped just because we have this app Smile
Half the problem is people don't understand, if they didn't go this route there's literally no way of knowing if it even works or how to improve it in the future. Too many people are being cynical about this entire thing, it's actually quite hilarious to read.

Why pay??? If everybody pays, we will never get first motor on tv. People are so lame....instant gratification is what most crave....no logic.

Give the networks more mone??!?!? Really?!?

My question to you two is, why the heck do you pay for cable? The only people screwing you is cable. 48 motos of MX for $50 is like "hallelujah" status good. I cut the cord years ago, pay for the fastest internet I can get and pay for what I want. Like somebody else mentioned, I save so much money.

You think we're lame, while us cable cutter know who the lame people are. The people that keep shelling out $1500+ a year to get a million channels you'll never watch. " If everybody pays, we will never get first motor on tv." You have that ass backwards.

Every major sport has the option to pay and watch their team if they don't live in the market for their team and it cost a lot more than $50.

I enjoyed it but it had some fails. I watched it on my phone and screen shared to my TV so my complaints/questions are based on mobile.

1. No timeline, only a live feed. If I pause the stream and my phone goes to sleep I lose the stream and have to refresh the page, missing out on whatever happened between pausing and refreshing and no ability to rewind.

2. No streaming quality options. My phone stutters juuust a little bit streaming/sharing at 1080 to my TV. Being able to choose 720 would be perfect and would mean I don't have to leave my phone on top of the screen sharing device.

3. Why a new feed for EVERY moto? It's a pain in the ass to switch the stream 4 times to watch all 4 motos when it's the same friggin stream! One 4 hour stream. That's all I ask. Wouldn't be as much of an issue if I could rewind.

4. No fullscreen option. Sure, it goes fullscreen if I turn my phone sideways but it's not a forced fullscreen. I got a notification and couldn't get the notification drop down bar to go away after it happened because it's not a forced fullscreen. It covered up the running order and clock for the entire 450 first moto. The only way to fix it was close the browser and load everything up again. Why should I have to do that when your old player had a fullscreen option?!

Anybody else run in to these issues?

Facebro, I did not personally run into any of those problems. That's strange, man! I never had to switch streams for example, and could see the running order and clock, etc.

Well, there have been some bugs, apparently. Hopefully NBC will get them worked out. People with problems need to let NBC know what's going on.

I will make one correction. I wasn't signed in to Gold on my browser, I was signed in on the NBC Gold Mobile App. Maybe it's an app issue because things are optimized for mobile. I may try signing in through chrome next week and see if there's a difference. The clock issue was from my phone. I got an email and the notification bar dropped down to show the icon. I cleared the notifications but the damn thing wouldn't slide back up!

I watched second moto's on cable. No fps lag, better quality, no notifications, blah blah blah.
