Without a doubt. RV is definitely in the legend class. Consistently broke the unbreakable.

I think the chance is quite high.
His boring bank account won't give a shit.

2006...I remember RC won the title...but I remember Stew being the much faster one and RC barely squeaking that one out

Big difference in being the best and being the smartest. Dungey races smart. Is he the best? No. Is he the smartest? Yes, far and above the field. He has a formula and he sticks to and it has worked for him. If he wins the title tonight, the only thing it will prove is you dont have to be the best to win championships. You have to be the smartest. You have to be disciplined in your strategy. He is the best at that. He has the titles to prove it.
But if you win the most points you are "the best"...how do people continue to perpetuate this? I'm not disagreeing with you overall, but if in a series you earn the most points meaning averaged the highest finish, you are the best.

Everyone is already talking about money in the bank. He still has time to choke. If so, Tomac's comeback would go down in history as one of the greatest accomplishments in the sport. Just saying... anything can happen and there are a lot of over confident posts counting the money already.

Some people think that pure speed is all that matters, regardless if the rider can consistently stay on 2 wheels or not. Other people realize that speed is one of many variables that make up a champion, in addition to things like brains, consistency and nerves of steel. The two types of peolpe will never agree but the records books will never lie. Period.

It already has been a great comeback. Dunge blew a 29 point lead. Shoulda had it wrapped up in Salt Lake

That's why they drop the gate, anything can happen and this thing isn't over till it's over. No argument outta me on that.

Exactly! This should have been a blow out series from where it started, but the freight train just kept coming. I only wish KR hadn't tossed it because I still believe he had everyone covered this year until that get off.

What has Dungey done to make an impact? Plenty of people have more titles and his boring approach to championships is easy to fade away. It's not saying his career isn't successful, but he won't be a legend like some that have been mentioned. 10 years from now people will still be talking about JS7 and no one will be talking about Dungey. You are free to your own opinion, but to be a legend you have to have flash and super human speed, not just championships. Especially when many were gifted to him in one way or another.
Dungey is called the diesel for a reason. He will be remembered as one of the best of his time to throw a leg over a bike. We are all looking fwd to the race tonight like but your last sentence shows your bias.

No, you are the most consistent. 13 times this year Dungey lost to someone better than him. 9 of those to one racer. Consistent and best are not the same thing.

Anyone ever dominate a race from the gate drop only to crash or fade right before the end of the moto and blow it? Lord knows I have plenty. Obviously Eli is a bad mofo who will win championships. Dungey has a job and a goal to win his Manufacturer and himself the ultimate goal each year so I see a podium ride. In the end you really cant take anything away from him. RD lost two championships by mechanicals that would of been his. Feel bad for Eli but it happens in all forms of racing. That's why they race to the last checkered of the series.

So at the end, who is the champion?

Make it stop...

Better? If these racers are better than Dungey, why aren't they leading the points? At the end of the night, we'll see who the best racer is. The one with the most points (whether it's Dungey or Tomac) will have that honor.

Yes they are. He is the best at finishing the highest.

If tomac is the "fastest" then he's also the best at choking and crashing.

If roczen is the best then he is the best at getting injured etc

The best is the person who can win the series. If dungey wins the series he is the best.

He was the smartest when not racing against RV. He couldn't do anything to stop that red headed freak

Guy B, seeing as how this is the last race of the season, and the standings will be solidified, awards presented and bonus checks signed, can we please award this gem The Troll Post of the Year award?

I like Dungey as well. Never said i didnt, have stated im a fan numerous times though. I just see him different than most. I dont knock him for what he has accomplished, its pretty damn amazing. But he has had a lot of fortunate breaks go his way and been extremely fortunate with his health. Amd i attribute that to his strategy. It works for him. How is that a bad thing?

And history has shown that fastest doesn't always mean the best either. There have been many really fast riders over the years who were suppose to the next big thing, but it takes more just speed to manage and win a championship.
