People always talk about a "riders union", but in theory, they already have one....the AMA. That's a group with hundreds of thousands of members. In my honest opinion, the AMA needs to get back to the old ways and actually have a voice and give the riders a voice. MX Sports doesn't own the nationals, Daytona Motor Group does and MX sports has the rights to promote them... Similar to Feld and the FIM. The AMA needs to make it's self known, and go from there, whether that means a new series, or bringing the nationals back to the grass roots. My opinion of course.

I have a question, why would Davey stop running the Nationals just because there's a SX the same day? So what if the stars don't come out to play, IMO racing is racing regardless who lines up. Local pros and privateers would get more attn. As mentioned before after 17 rounds of SX who's beeging for more races?

I did not know that!

Wouldn't overseas kill off the privateer as we'll as the privateer satellite teams? If it's true it seems like the decision would benefit feld's bank account and kill off/shrink MX and put privateers at a disadvantage. Great for the sport bro! Errr I mean great for their bank account!
They don't care about privateers. The supercross guys want you in a 18 wheeler, or in there eyes, you shouldn't be there. It sucks.

Last I heard there were some contracts Mx Sports runs for Feld with Monster Trucks.

And yes Money is the reason why SX would take over Outdoors. That is very clear to anyone.

Everyone moaning about SX replacing MX...but how many of you will visit an SX round because it's convenient but not a National because it isn't. Who ever is in charge is ONLY interested in one thing, viewing figures. If more people watch SX than MX it's common sense to expand the serious.

In my opinion, we have enough SX. And I love the Nationals...but,...

How about an 18 round SX season(12 in the US/6 in the EU) and an 18 round MXGP series(12 in the EU/6 in the US) where the schedules don't clash and we can see the best in the world racing each other all year long?

World peace?

I'm so glad we have MX here in Europe with all the attention and not some circus show in stadiums.

Convenience of a stadium seat???? Paws in the dirt watching the real show!!!

Feld will turn Supercross into something similar to Monster Trucks where it will be a core group of riders and teams that compete / put on a show. There will be plenty of riders that wont participate due to all the strings attached. I see plenty of options for the Outdoor Nationals and potentially a new Supercross series put on by say MX Sports or someone. Monster is driving this Supercross expansion so there are plenty of other companies such as Red Bull to work with other organizations. Pretty sure Red Bull is sponsoring several of the Outdoor Nationals already. If I am Davey Coombs I am doing all I can to get Red Bull on board.

Red Bull Annual sales - 6.6 Billion

Monster Annual sales - 2.7 Billion

Red Bull sponsors all 12 rounds of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross as well as the Loretta Lynn's AMA Amateur Nationals. They have for the past half-dozen years.

This is could be a good thing, and MX could use it as leverage and so should the riders.

I work in mma and Bellator and UFC compete similarly. pay the riders.

If MX Sports wants RD to compete in their promotion / series they should contract him to do so. That can be an exclusive contract ( meaning he can not compete for another promotor ) or an open contract. It could also be a multi event contract ( ex. 6 MX Races 2017 )

Riders, use this as leverage to get the promotors to finally pay you to be their entertainment and in their series.

It is highly likely MX Sports makes less as an entity than Feld, so they will have to be creative in how they compete for talent.

I did not read it here. I only frequent a few magazines so I am not sure where I read it. Maybe I read something out of context or maybe they were talking about the future. Not sure. However, notice DC did not say anything about any persons concerns about the Nationals going away?

This is not fact, but from reading about this stuff for the last 10 years....

AMA nationals have been gone for years.

France family bought the series and named it AMA Pro, but it's not AMA it's really DMG.

The National series is leased from DMG to MX Sports.

France and Monster can do what ever they please with the series, scary stuff.

From past scenarios it doesn't look like France and Feld are the best of bro's, but if Feld can outbid MX Sports and take the National's away from MX Sports, Feld would own USA Moto and SX.

It was once bad ass to be an AMA Pro, now you are an DMG Pro and you won the DMG series with the band aide name AMA Pro stuck on the trophy.

AMA was very stupid to sell the series to France, but someone got paid huge.

Take SX up a notch and have the show combine with monster trucks. You would get the ticket sales and probably pack the stadiums every weekend if you ran the motos at the same time as the monster trucks. The crowd would go crazy as the riders dodge the trucks and with the massive increase in turnstile profits and tv revenue you could pay the riders bigly and everything would be beautiful, just beautiful

I think this takes away from the USA concept of the series ....and it's a logistic nightmare......but I like the concept as well, nice thinking outside the box rancor19! BWink

Longer SX season and the Outdoor series would be 6 rounds is what I heard. It does suck though Outdoors is the BEST!!! Feld sucks they can't even give us live races on TV half the time.

I'd much rather ride than watch someone else ride, any day....The older I get, the more I hate crowds anyway.

Around here, we can still ride basically ride our bikes from our houses to our "area's and ride......without being arrested or shot at.
Right on bro! I just want to ride. BRAAP!!!

This whole discussion is a microcosm of what's wrong with racing -- any kinda racing -- in the United States. American sports are generally better than their European counterparts, and our professional and college leagues positively trounce anything they're ever gonna have. BUT ...

When it comes to racing, Americans simply don't get it. Somehow, a mentality evolved that racing belongs in a stadium, where people "sit up high" where they "can see the whole track," same as if they were at a football game. So what've we ended up with? Oval tracks and the like, meaning ...

• NASCAR (shit)
• Indycar (shit)
• Sprint cars (shit)
• Supercross (shit)
• MotoAmerica (primarily a road-racing series, but shit anyway)
• IMSA sports cars (primarily a road-racing series, but no one cares)

AMA outdoor motocross may be the ONE quality racing series we have.

So what do the Europeans have?

• Formula 1
• The 24 Hours of LeMans (and the World Endurance Championship)
• MotoGP
• MXGP

End of story.

I guess my money would go to FIM MXGP broadcast vs. going to 1-2 SX a year.

I can't believe how many of you act so shocked, or incensed, or even insulted by this. The sky isn't going to fall on us. Some of you act as if motocross only exists at the pro level. The institution of motocross transcends any class, or organization, or sanctioning body, or any promoter...

Motocross will continue on at pro level anyway. things might just be a little different. And different could be good, ya never know...maybe it saves the sport...who knows.

Indeed this is what it's coming to if you want to ride in the future you better get some land or get in good with someone that has land with a track, trails etc....

As far as the other post about the factories not ponying up the cash to go to Europe for a couple months if they drop their outdoor programs completely they could do it. Satellite teams, privateers bye bye
Money talks and bullshit walks and there is soooo much more money to be made in SX...for the Suits that is we fans are going to get the shitty end of the stick. Sadly the Nationals will go away eventually just because of the money.
The money rules so don't fool yourself into believing these suits even care about the MX fan they know they already have you no matter what sort of shitty production they provide because you are a fan and have no other means to watch. They are not marketing to get people into the sport they are marketing to get suckers into a stadium seat to watch a spectacle.

If you look up the history of SX you will find it was started by a concert promoter who wanted to use motorcycles as entertainment.
He had no intention of building a competitive racing series he was looking to make big bucks combining Concerts with live motorcycle action...what he wanted to do was what TP 199 does with the Nitro Circus but at that point in time that type of riding was not yet born.
He brought in a partner Micky Thompson and then had him and his wife killed nice guy he is still serving time in prison..

""It was so different than any other form of racing and it was major entertainment," said White who owns and operates The Early Years of Motocross Museum in Villa Park, CA. "The dealer that sponsored me in the beginning, Southland Cycle Center in Garden Grove, would hire a bus and fill it up with customers to drive up to the LA Coliseum. By the time we got there, we were all 'beer'd up'."

Supercross was nothing short of spectacular and White gives a lot of credit to Goodwin hiring Larry Huffman as announcer.

"Larry got it. It was about entertainment and only the real traditionalist's didn't buy into this new form of motorcycle racing," White said."

There you have it just beer'd up entertainment and will kill the Nationals eventually just a matter of time...and money.

I dont have the slightest idea what the people in charge are planning, but it would be a tragedy to kill off the outdoor nationals. In the last half dozen years or so, the nationals have been everything supercross is not. That is, professionally presented from the title sponsor and promoter, with excellent TV announcers, and close racing pretty often. Occasionally you'll have a runaway champ, but in that case it's still more exciting to watch someone dominate an outdoor race than indoors.
