I know what you mean. I got rid of mine in September for a boat. Really missing it right now. Got the boat for the family to have something to enjoy together, and so far it's been great, but there is no replacement for Moto. I'lll make my way back to it when the kids are grown.

Been thinking real seriously about pairing up a 125 with this new TC 250 when I finally get it. Haven't ridden one in probably 25 years , but dang , everyone seems to just love them.

@Maverick, this bike used to be my brother inlaws, I have ridden it, and it was fun. I used to have a 99 YZ125 also.

my cousin and my father both do powdercoating very well, and my gears on how crazy I want to go with this bike are spinning!
What's your plan for the bike. Stock plastic or the newer '15+ plastic to modernize the bike? Black wheels? Hope not.

What ever you do, do yourself a favor and go with the stock look. Those bike and the factory bikes from those years were so clean looking. Put the '04 stock graphics with the tuning fork on the shrouds.

The thing is going to look awesome.

I believe it is and its a little mix of everything that makes it better. The new gen chassis carves corners and i have never experienced head shake. The ergos are very nice too. Very roomy, flat and narrow and the rear side panels bulge right in front of the shock holds u in really good when in attack mode. The new shock is great as well and soaks up hits awesome. Rubber mounted bar mounts are nice. Just a totally better bike overall. The biggest thing to me is the motor though. My 12 150 sx made 38 hp. The new 125 almost cracks 40hp yet it produces long smooth power that makes it easy to ride. Just like MXA says, you can forgot what that lever on the left is because it has awesome pull and torque for a 125. Ive never gelled with a bike more then this thing. Sold my FC450 cause i was having too much on the 125 and its made me a better rider x10. Using front brakes more better body positioning, carrying more momentum and better corner speed. To compare to a 16-17 150sx i prefer the 125 because of its motor characteristics. The 150 has strong bottom and mid then power tapers off kinda fast. The 125 has similar power down low and mid but pulls like a freight train all the way to top.

I like the older plastic style with the newer front fender. As Rupert would say, Black Rimmage is a must as far as I'm concerned. The rest is still stewing around in my dome.

I love my 2005 Yamaha YZ-125. Bought it back in 2005 and started tricking it out with all kinds of aftermarket goodies, engine mods, Ohlins suspension, and much more, way too many items too list. The only problem I ever had was the stop shifter lever bearing, very common problem, installed updated part, good as new. All I have done to my YZ-125 is routine maintenance, a few top ends, and replace normal wearable items. It still has the original cylinder and clutch after 12 years of riding!!! This bike is awesome, very light, easy to start and so much fun to ride. Fun factor is off the charts. I will keep this one forever, as it is a keeper. When I can't ride anymore, I kept all the stock stuff to put it back to its original showroom condition. I will then drink beer in the man cave and look at it with all my other bikes in my collection.

Wish I never sold my '89 CR125. Been looking for another one for a couple years. Happy with my '09 YZ125 and won't be making the "sell" mistake again. Should have kept that gear too...

I started riding again after a long layoff. Picked up a friends CRF250R. Nice bike, but I soon realized they are like trying to race a mini van on an autocross course. Not very fast, lazy engine (which can be appealing at times), and they feel oh so heavy. After a lot of reflection, I decided that riding should first be fun, even if I don't go quite as fast at times. Decided a 125 was the way to go. Picked this one up, and as someone else said, immediately went out of control and rebuilt the entire bike including having the engine turned into a 144 by Eric Gorr. I do not regret it for one second. Bike is incredibly forgiving, easy to ride (except for all the shifting to keep it in the power...) and most of all, fun!

If you plan on going with the older plastic also go with the '06 to '14 front fender and number plate from the YZ line as oppose to the '15+ YZ's or the '10+ YZF. I personally think the '06 to '14 front fender and number plate would look a lot better on your '04 than the space age plastic of the newer models. It's going to modernize the look a bit without looking out of place like the newer pointy style plastic. As for black wheels everyone has them so why not do something different? Silver rims with blue hubs would look awesome.

If it was my bike here's what I would do

- '06 to '14 YZ front fender & front number plate
- Silver rims w/ blue hubs & a blue sprocket
- Oversize front brake rotor
- SSS suspension
- Pro Circuit works pipe w/ Carbon Ti-2 R-304 Kevlar silencer
- Moto Tassinari V-Force 3
- Raptor titaniumfoot pegs
- Seat cover: blue sides, black top with blue ribs
- '04 stock graphics
- Big fat numbers on the number plates with minimal graphics

If you plan on going all out without a care in the world for the budget then add in a full race motor, kit suspension, hydraulic clutch, full Hinson clutch, Ti bolts and axles.

I love my 16 Kawi 450. But last summer I decided to look for a 125 to ride for fun. I hadn't ridden one in years.
So I found this 15 Husky used. Had FC do the suspension, added graphics and a few other things.
I didn't realize how good the new 125's are now and I totally forgot how light they are. It felt like a bmx bike compared to my 450. lol
I'm having a blast with it though. When I go to open track days I take both bikes.
It's fun riding the 125 and it reminds me of my 125 days back in the 90's.
