Did you guys hear Ping say Cooper Webb went over and rode the Honda SX track with Seely in the off-season???

I'm listening the A2 wrap up podcast now and my mind is blown. Am I over-reacting???
Seems like a big no-no from a management perspective. Wow.

All those guys get bored with riding the same track.

i guess its possible these days. the isolation of riders isnt what it used to be 10-15 years ago.

RC wouldve never thought of ever sharing a track with a competitor even from the same team if he could help it.

I thought Webb and Seely rented a track at Milestone or somewhere?

That was a year ago or so, I think it was Webb, Seely, and Hahn. That track is been converted into a flat track.

From time-to-time, riders for other manufacturers will ride a different test track to train with a buddy if they have permission. I always joke that K2 (Kawasaki's on the hill) is open to anyone, as many ex-PC guys on different teams roll up to ride with guys on the team they still know.

On a side note, sometimes riders sneak onto other tracks without permission when no one is around... When James Stewart was at L&M Yamaha in 09 and Reed was at Suzuki, James and Regal snuck up to the Suzuki track when no one was around and burnt a few motos... No permission was given for that by Suzuki... Laughing

Jason Lawrence also jumped the fence into a freshly prepped Honda test track when he rode for YOT...

I feel like this is a no-brainer but at the same time, the PR and mgmt of each team wouldn't be stoked with it being out there...

I've spun a couple laps around the Suzuki track about 5-6 years ago. We were out ripping the hills and there was a hole in the fence. I just had to at least roll around....

Albeit, dangerously, as he was side tracked by hunger and/or sleepiness. But, it doesn't really matter.

I remember back in 1999 / 2000 I was in America and staying with a friend that worked for Yamaha . I got to go watch for a while at the Yamaha test track and you could see the Honda and Suzuki tracks from there.
My friend was trying to convince management to abandon their track and lease this huge and disused aircraft hanger.. Can't remember where it was , but we drove past it one day.
The idea was that Yamaha could have a track indoors that their riders could train on at night time ,to help get in the night time race mode you need for the actual night racing of sx, plus there would be minimal watering compared to their outdoor track , no weed growth and it would put a stop to the sticky beaks constantly peering through the fence, which I remember was a constant source of aggravation to my friend, especially when they were packing cameras with big long lenses.
Obviously they never took him up on his idea....
No particular reason for this post ,other than it was interesting to me at the time.
I remember sitting up in the control tower / observation box at the Yamaha track and watching McGrath , Button, Vuillemin, Fonseca, Phil Lawrence, Tim Ferry and and Jeff Emig pound out the laps. It was a real privelege and pretty damn special. McGrath really was something else.... A genuinely nice and polite young man and so good , so hard at the whoops and so much better at generating speed from mid corner to the next obstacle... He could only get 20 laps out of a back wheel and clutch...to see the wheel after 20 laps... Flat spots on the rim and broken spokes...unreal!
Anyway....blah ,blah

Whose management?
Honda management.
I would assume they aren't spending Honda dollars on a Honda SX track in order for a Yamaha rider to get his laps in.

Lot's of unconfirmed stories over the years of bike swapping and fence hopping but this was the first time I've heard someone in the know mention it in such a nonchalant manner. That's all.

Looks like this one has already been hashed out, but I didn't know if you were referring to Yamaha or Honda.

That's cool, I always wondered what the dynamic of Emig and MC at the same practice track was. According to Witnesses It was the first time Emig was real good through the whoops and had laps right in line with MC. A rare piece of time when you got to see the 90's two top champs at the same test track.

I believe I remember TP talking about RC not letting him ride on the Suzuki test track is RC was on it. Back then seemed like guys were out for them self and didn't want to share anything with one another.

I remember hearing RC was a hard guy to get along with even teammates.

A week ago Jon Primo a french mechanic at PC took a picture of the Pro Circuit box van which was park all the way up the hill in front of the Suzuki test track!
