How is it any more of an advantage for the off-road guys? Losing time is losing time. Have you ever been tired as hell, stalled the bike, and kicked it until you've almost had a heart attack? Lord knows I have. Having the ability to RE-start the bike after dropping it with just the push of a button rather than wasting both time and physical endurance is a huge advantage for the rider, regardless of what discipline you ride. Period.

As far as why a bike "HAS" to have it - KTM and Husky have them across the board right out of the box, which is an immediate advantage for whomever is riding that bike over their competitors who do not have it. Just my 2cents..
the chance of stalling a 4-stroke in tight technical single track is a hundred times more likely then in moto.

more importantly, you can be in a really shitty spot where you just can't straddle the bike, like on the side of a hill, or in a mud pit, ect... in moto your always 5 feet away from flat ground....

this should be pretty obvious to anyone who's ever ridden technical off-road.

My DAUGHTER is 5' tall, the biggest regret I have with her racing career is when she started racing big bikes I didn't put her on a bike with an E Start. I can't tell you how many times she was running in the front, went down, and couldn't start the bike, or had to drag it somewhere she could find something to stand on to start it. I think it would have extended her career.

Both HRC bikes have only e-start. In the mxgp circuit, Yamaha and Honda run e start. kickstarters and disco are dead.

Big shout out to the Japanese mfg's who don't make me waste money on e-start I don't want!!! Everybody rips on them for not having it, but they are not stupid. They know what they are doing.

Dungey's e-start cost him probably more than that in one race at Red Bud. Probably cost Davalos a good chunk this past weekend also. One good thing about a kickstart is it never fails, although e-start doesn't very often either.
