Now with 94 out it looks like Dungy is going to dominate once again. It looks like he'll have the season wrapped up a few rounds early also. Do they need anymore proof that it's time for a Chase format?

Yeah. Let's just hit the 'do over' button every time Dungey gets out front.

Maybe cuz the chase is a dumb idea.

Yeah let's punish the guy that's been the most consistent and prepared for the season by resetting the points.

Nope, got to be in it to win it. Dungey is a machine. Why make it easier for the other peeps who don't have his talent or ability to do what he does on dirt sickle? I know it makes the season less exciting, but if anyone gets board, they can tune into the Bravo channel Smile

You say that like Dungey wouldn't win anyways. Dungey has the game figured out, nobody on earth is gonna match his consistency in sx.

Still not seeing why somebody kicking everyone else's butts shouldn't be "dominating" championship chances.

Three races in, and someone's already clamoring for an idiotic gimmick. Maybe all those other factory-supported riders could maybe step it up? Call me crazy ...

The OP just made the strongest case against the Chase that he could have. If the best reason to implement a Chase format is to artificially punish the guy who has dominated, you're no longer talking about athletic competition, you're talking about pure entertainment.

Plus, Dungey hasn't earned the 2017 Supercross championship in three rounds. Yes, he is the odds-on favorite, but anything can happen, even to a machine like him.

chase is stupid. even from a fan standpoint. tightening the points up doesnt stop the Dungey freight train.

Been watching the chase in ax the last couple years and works great there... Sure, it works against certain riders, but it helps keeps the excitement up the entire way through the series, which sx could certainly use...

I don't think that even a chase format is going to prevent Dungey from making this season boring as hell.

And you consider the year long points schedule to be ... organic?

Imagine if RD5 (1) rides consistent, continues to win and if there were 25 races! Talk about a huge points lead at the end of the series! LOL

For those considering today's possibilities boring, just imagine how bored you'd be with 25 races.... Now, let's get outdoors going and rest at that point...

Changed in name only.

• The playoffs will remain divided into three three-race rounds with four drivers eliminated after each round to set up four finalists for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Drivers automatically qualify into the next round with a win in that playoff round, and the remaining spots filled by the point standings. At Homestead, the top-finishing driver among the four finalists at the end of the race wins the title.

Perhaps they should just give a participation award at the end so those that don't win won't feel disappointed. We certainly don't want the best rider all season to win everything.

If we used position instead of points here is where we would be, no one would be out of it yet.

Dungey 69 vs 5
Marvin 62 vs 8
Seely 51 vs 14
Tomac 44 vs 19
Peick 43 vs 20

1 DNF and everything changes.

Cool. Just do it this way then. If it's so important to NOT know who will be the champ until the last race, just wait until it's over and do a lottery to see which two race's points actually count... That way Roczen can still win. If every race doesn't count, you might as well be playing bingo.

Well, Dungey does have a MASSIVE 7 point lead. Season over, right?
1/26/2017 4:12pm
Just 2 weeks ago the majority of people were saying Roczen was going to run away with it. Now look at where we are. Anything can happen, a DNF, a bad race, other guys could pick it up, or an injury could occur. This season is long from over.
