Whats up with Tomac?

I just don't think he is comfortable with his set up. He can muscle his way to the fastest lap but can't do it it for 20.

Tomac has a mental problem. That is all. He needs to get his head out of his ass and grab his balls. He's one of the fastest riders in the world and he's riding like a rookie who doesn't have a shred of confidence.

Cooper Webb had the same issue. He took the above advice and nearly landed on the podium this past week.

He's getting paid to do the best he can and be a good representative of the brands supporting him.

I don't think he's really been the same since the Thunder Valley crash. He was 5 for 5 in 2015 and on his way to 6th in a row. All were dominating fashion over Dungey. He was what, 20 seconds ahead when he crashed out at Thunder Valley when he crashed out on his way to 6th straight? Dungey didn't improve THAT much more since then.

Sure, we've seen flashes of that since then, but not the same as before. He had double shoulder surgery and hasn't really bounced back from that, in my opinion. He gave Roczen problems in a few outdoor rounds last year, but those were just flashes.

This weekend he got passed by a 34 year old Chad Reed. That's not where he should be right now.

I will probably get flamed for this, but oh well. In my opinion he had a few really good races on his Honda, then the USGP, and monster cup. Why does everyone think he is a title contender and should be doing better than he is? Seems to me he is right where he should be. He as great results and blazing speeds at times. You could put him back on a Honda and he would be right where he is right now.
What he did those first 5 motos of outdoors on that Honda was unreal. Maybe once or twice a guy can do something like that but 5 time in a row is no fluke.

On the other hand, Tomac and Wilson went back and forth on the 250's for a title and Tomac's not finishing to far ahead of him right now with a lot more seat time recently and a ton more support.

He gets a killer salary. He's making a lot of money, but he could have made a hundred grand more for a couple wins thus far.

How has nobody said this yet; how did you do through the first three rounds???

Don't you know you're not allowed to make observations of a rider without being able to finish better than them?? Other threads seem to have this rule covered.

disclaimer, big tomac fan here

lets not blame the bike, if here were to go to another brand, and does not deliver it will be said because its a new bike/team.

i deft think tomac has more than an 5th,6th,8th in him, the guy has won multiple times

the problem with tomac is HE SET THE BAR VERY VERY HIGH, anything but total domination is sub-par
like others have said, mostly likely its mental and deft needs to practice with other fast guys, chase someone around

anyone who has played competitive sports knows practice games are crucial
Yeah, I think the dominance in those 2015 nationals is what we all expect out of him now. Even a solid 2nd or a close win doesn't live up to what he did in those 5 motos. The ghost of those performances lives on in our expectations of him and may haunt the rest of his career.

Sure seems like something is up though. Whether it's the bike, his shoulders, or training solo. Time to mix it up IMO.

Maybe, they said he's moved out of family home into new one with his woman, that'll fuck anyone's head up. Constant nagging/or sex lol.

He doesn't look comfortable on that bike, its as simple as that. Seems they may have the outdoor setting down based on what we saw at Glenn Helen.... Watch a supercross race with him on the Honda, he doesn't even look like the same rider.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mBjVF3b5rE

that's exactly what I thought. look at the race where he battled with Wilson at seattle sx. they were both carving up lines like crazy. hes been on hondas and suzukis, both great turning bikes. 3 things we will never know for awhile. why he really left Honda , is he really 100% after the surgeries and now hes been on the new bike awhile is it really what he thought.
1/24/2017 1:37pm Edited Date/Time 1/24/2017 1:43pm
When I watch him on Saturday's it just seems he can't turn the bike, whether it's the way he's doing it or something with the bike I don't know but to me it's obvious, he almost comes a to a complete stop in the turns sometimes. He's good when there's no ruts in practice and the heats because he can slide around the turn like RV, but as soon as he can't really do that anymore he doesn't turn very well. I'm not saying this is the entire problem but just what I can see but maybe I am completely wrong.

It sucks because I really thought he was gonna improve from last year and be a title contender but it's not really looking good for him right now.

Edit: And watching that video of Tomac from 2015 on the Honda it's obvious that he rode with a lot more aggression and honestly just looks comfortable on the Honda when you compare it to now what he's doing on a Kawasaki.

No. I checked photos from last weekend, and she's not on there when he's racing.

...And did you really bust out that gem for your first post? Laughing

the KX450 is a big bike for indoors. It cant turn like a suzuki ktm or honda. In order to get it to turn you have to use the throttle.

This is why Villo did so well cuz thats how he rode.

Go back over the nationals, the tracks he excelled at were southwick and washougal. Both tracks did NOT have ruts, and were not technical. He could let the bike do what it wanted to do and he could push comfortably. On every track that rutted up, became techincal he struggled and looked like he was fighting the bike the whole time

More like what's up with Grant? How can he take that "turd" of a motorcycle into the main and be back to the team truck first?

looks at Eli,s results on the racer x vault. he won quite a bit on the Honda 250 from 2011 to 2013. he won the lites west in 2013, got 2nd to Kenny by only 2 points in 2012 and didn't do too bad in 2011. mostly top 3s, so Im not sure why anyone would say hes not good at SX

I think Kawasaki is paying him a top dollar contract because they expect him to win and bring home a championship, other guys they pay to do their best but Tomac was expected to be mixing it up with Dungey and Kroc but the seasons not over yet and I bet he figures it out and gets a few wins.

totally get that and I agree, Tomac is one of my favorites and the guy is nothing but class, but do you think Kawasaki's results expectations are being met, based on how much they shelled out?

I honestly don't think him and the Kawi agree, but I really hope he gets it sorted out and mixes it up with the front runners.

The real question is where does he go next? If JGR were smart they'd sign him right now. Wouldn't even look any different than the 51 because they both wear Alpinestar gear. But really; Yamaha has Webb tagged, KTM has Dung for another year at least plus Moosecan on his heels, Honda has roped KR up for the next few years. Tomac is gonna turn to a different bike and at this point its basally gotta be yellow unless something drastic changes.

Whatever the cause (bike setup or mental), I really hope he can get it figured out and get racing back at the front where he belongs.

What happened to the dude on here that stated he was gonna break his kawi contract at the end of 2016 and find another brand?

I seem to remember this was a stamp it type moment.

I am sure if the results were the same on a Suzuki, people would say it's too heavy. Or a KTM would be too quirky, or a Yamaha would be the backwards engine....but yes, it's not like kawi have a lot of 450s out there

if you pay attention to how he is riding, He is not flowing. He may have a better setting on the bike but for whatever reason he just doesnt look good.

he looks like he is fighting it.

I dont think its so much the bike, guys have done well on KX450fs ie Villoo and Stewart, but they had the bike setup and they were "one" with the bike.

a lot of people get so used to X bike or brand that when they make a switch to "Y bike" they try to make it handle like what they were on before. and so this ends up creating problems of finding a setting.

IMO, i feel he is having continuing problems with his setup. Look at what happened with KROC on his RMZ.

Hopefully he figures it out in the few weeks

I think he hasn't found the perfect setup yet, and if you're not comfortable on the bike you ride tight and that's when you get arm pump and tire quickly.

Two or three more rounds and he'll be on the podium.

I agree. He looked like he was play riding and having fun on the Honda and he looks tight and just off? on the Kawi.

I would like to see him on another brand before I say whether or not he's as elite as we all thought or in some cases didn't think. The new Suzuki could be for him. Maybe the KTM or Husky. It's hard to say because he went to an all new Kawi and hasn't quite found his old self. Does anyone think he would go train with Baker if he does sign with KTM like some are suggesting he will do if Dungey retires? Maybe his dad is willing to collaborate with Aldon. If he won't train with anyone full time he should at least get someone who is fast to ride with and do some scrimmages. Honda is out of the question but I think a Husky, KTM or Suzuki is in the cards if he wants a change.
What new Suzuki? Are they finally stepping up to the plate for 2018?
