Cooper Webb had the same issue. He took the above advice and nearly landed on the podium this past week.
Sure, we've seen flashes of that since then, but not the same as before. He had double shoulder surgery and hasn't really bounced back from that, in my opinion. He gave Roczen problems in a few outdoor rounds last year, but those were just flashes.
This weekend he got passed by a 34 year old Chad Reed. That's not where he should be right now.

On the other hand, Tomac and Wilson went back and forth on the 250's for a title and Tomac's not finishing to far ahead of him right now with a lot more seat time recently and a ton more support.
Don't you know you're not allowed to make observations of a rider without being able to finish better than them?? Other threads seem to have this rule covered.
Sure seems like something is up though. Whether it's the bike, his shoulders, or training solo. Time to mix it up IMO.
It sucks because I really thought he was gonna improve from last year and be a title contender but it's not really looking good for him right now.
Edit: And watching that video of Tomac from 2015 on the Honda it's obvious that he rode with a lot more aggression and honestly just looks comfortable on the Honda when you compare it to now what he's doing on a Kawasaki.
...And did you really bust out that gem for your first post?
This is why Villo did so well cuz thats how he rode.
Go back over the nationals, the tracks he excelled at were southwick and washougal. Both tracks did NOT have ruts, and were not technical. He could let the bike do what it wanted to do and he could push comfortably. On every track that rutted up, became techincal he struggled and looked like he was fighting the bike the whole time
I honestly don't think him and the Kawi agree, but I really hope he gets it sorted out and mixes it up with the front runners.
Pit Row
I seem to remember this was a stamp it type moment.
he looks like he is fighting it.
I dont think its so much the bike, guys have done well on KX450fs ie Villoo and Stewart, but they had the bike setup and they were "one" with the bike.
a lot of people get so used to X bike or brand that when they make a switch to "Y bike" they try to make it handle like what they were on before. and so this ends up creating problems of finding a setting.
IMO, i feel he is having continuing problems with his setup. Look at what happened with KROC on his RMZ.
Hopefully he figures it out in the few weeks

Two or three more rounds and he'll be on the podium.
