Things aren't going that well. Any ideas? Are big changes required?

Nothing. He's absolutely fine. What makes you think there is something wrong with him? Did he say something to you?

He destroyed everyone in the USGPs, then won monster cup.. So i think hes basically asking if something happened, or if something is wrong

Simple, he is just not ready to run with Dungey yet. Will he be in the near future? I sure hope so and believe he will. It's a confidence sport, maybe the expectations were a little too big for Eli to bare.

Dungey is the least of his worries at the moment

Yep. There were 6 guys between Dungey and Tomac.

Dungey is the least of his worries.

Eli would have finished in 10th if Anderson would have lined up and Roczen would have finished.

Beat Dungey? He didn't beat Grant, something is real wrong. My guess carpal tunnel syndrome or over trained.

4 days straight of Chipotle and Popeyes fried chicken with red beans and rice, cut out the biscuit if he needs to save a little but man that would get the blood flowing, make him more chilled and happy! Well that works for me anyway.

On this weeks Racerx podcast, Pingree was saying he rides and trains alone most of the time and he pondered if that was contributing to this slump in form. Its so frustrating to watch, as he's one of the only guys out there thats beaten Dungey straight up in the past. His confidence seems to build when its far too late to count..

Have any journalists asked him?
Anyone seen any good interviews with Tomac recently?

Sorry guys, I was watching A2 while on the treadmill, when 450s main came I guess I was pretty tired (+due to KRoc's crash completely lost focus) and didn't even notice Eli's performance. I wasn't aware it was that bad. Overtraining maybe? He doesn't seem like a slacker to me. A1 was pretty bad for him and it's not getting any better.

I know nothing about his training habits except what some turkeys say on here, but it does seem plausible.
It also seems that he hardly does any interviews and the ones he does, are the standard boring arse ones that offer up nothing of interest. I kinda think that Tomac comes across as having an epic chip on his shoulders and seems angry most of the time, and maybe he uses that mentality (him v the rest) as his motivation? Most likely a nice dude away from it all too.
It was interesting reading DV's article this week where he saw training footage of Tomac practicing his corners and he reckons Eli looked like shit. As much as a weapon he is outdoors, I really think his SX skills and the expectations of the fans are wildly overstated.
Sorry, meant to quote dude above you

Don't see him going to GP's, but I agree with your point about being an outdoors guy.

I will probably get flamed for this, but oh well. In my opinion he had a few really good races on his Honda, then the USGP, and monster cup. Why does everyone think he is a title contender and should be doing better than he is? Seems to me he is right where he should be. He as great results and blazing speeds at times. You could put him back on a Honda and he would be right where he is right now.

I'm starting to subscribe to this theory as well. I think he's better than we've seen so far but maybe not as good as we all thought. If you think back over his 450 SX career, he has won sparingly regardless of the brand he's on. He caught fire outdoors in 15 before getting hurt but that was 5 motos. Nowhere in his body of work on a 450 can I find consistent podiums. Maybe our expectations are too high? I also think there is something to what Ping said about riding alone. DV also made a comment about him trying to ride like RV and RV being the only one who's ever been able to go fast using that "slide the rear and pin it" style.

He qualified fastest, but said he lost his rhythm - I believe he has the speed. Could be mental at this point. His first lap decisions in traffic aren't helping him either.

A few years ago he was giving Roczen all that he could handle in SX before moving up to the 450s. He is no slouch in SX and definitely not riding up to his potential.

I hope he figures out what's wrong, when everything is clicking for him he is amazing to watch.

I would like to see him on another brand before I say whether or not he's as elite as we all thought or in some cases didn't think. The new Suzuki could be for him. Maybe the KTM or Husky. It's hard to say because he went to an all new Kawi and hasn't quite found his old self. Does anyone think he would go train with Baker if he does sign with KTM like some are suggesting he will do if Dungey retires? Maybe his dad is willing to collaborate with Aldon. If he won't train with anyone full time he should at least get someone who is fast to ride with and do some scrimmages. Honda is out of the question but I think a Husky, KTM or Suzuki is in the cards if he wants a change.

"Before moving up to the 450s."

That is the important part. Before 450s. Things change when rider moves up. We have all seen it so many times in US and in the GPs.

Something is wrong with Eli at the moment. This is just my opinion but i don't think that he will ever be on Dungeys and Roczens level in SX but he should be closer than what he has showed us so far this season.

Not flaming you but it's not like he sucked on the Honda.

Also his 250W results are pretty dominant.

Watch those bikes on the track. The Yamaha and the Kawi can not turn in the way the other bikes can. Not an entirely competitive bike at the AMA Supercross level. That's the problem with ET3 who imo is pretty much the fastest rider in the series.

Rd1 - 5th
Rd2 - 6th
Rd3 - 8th

Currently 5th in the points. 7 points behind Seely, and 1 ahead of Peick.

Definitely hasn't lived up to the hype that the media was pushing during the off season claiming Dungey, Roczen, and Tomac were going to be the big 3 in 2017 SX.

I thought he claimed arm pump after Rd1? Maybe he is still dealing with arm pump problems.

I would think it is arm pump. May come from over training. Very painful. I hope it will get solved but some riders have surgery because of it.

For sure it is painful to watch too with this potential, i was really seeing him mixing it up with Kenny and dungey this year.

disclaimer, big tomac fan here

lets not blame the bike, if here were to go to another brand, and does not deliver it will be said because its a new bike/team.

i deft think tomac has more than an 5th,6th,8th in him, the guy has won multiple times

the problem with tomac is HE SET THE BAR VERY VERY HIGH, anything but total domination is sub-par
like others have said, mostly likely its mental and deft needs to practice with other fast guys, chase someone around

anyone who has played competitive sports knows practice games are crucial

I noticed that too, both Reed and Tomac seemed to be struggling on the tight turns. Big sweeping tracks like Glen Helen and Southwick Tomac flies and rails the outside with ridiculous momentum. Tight supercross tracks seems to be a bit more of a struggle.

I would like to see how Eli would go on the new Honda as a comparison.

Why not post in one of the numerous other " Tomac " threads and not start another ? There is a search box in the upper right corner and its almost magic if you type a name or subject in to it. I bet you will start a Stewart thread next saying he needs to ride Krocs factory Honda.

You already stated he qualified fastest.....there isn't anything wrong with the bike!

From lap 1 he was rolling backwards and Grant beat him!

That weight will slow any bike down. DV12 said he should turn forks softer.. don't see that working with this setup.

Do you think he's getting paid for the current results, or is he paid the salary he gets to win or be on the box?
