I went by tuf sat afternoon to see the place empty except for a cop car and cop up by the front door.On the way back through I stoped and a sighn was on the door that said building on lockdown,I was baffled to what was going on.I looked inside and all bikes, quads everything is gone exept for gear.I stoped afterwork yesterday and the sighn now says closed and says that if you have anything in this building you to call a # with in a month or you lose it.Andy turned tuf around and had a great store sad to see it gone.

I have had a yz 250 on order for 2 months, guess I won't get it now,Anyone in the surrounding area that could get me a deal on a 08 yz 250 would be greatly appreciated.I delt with tuf for all my stuff and got some sweet deals from Andy now I have to find another good dealer in the area.Prosource also closed a few weeks back and they were pretty big in this area. Both will be missed good luck to Andy he's a super cool guy.

I hate to hear this and hope the best for all of TUF workers and owners for all of their future endeavors.

I hate to say this but I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of I got a great deal story's associated with business closed signs.

People do not understand just how small of a mark up there is in the motorcycle industry! Profit is more than cut in 1/2 by giving a small 15 % discount ......... that does not leave much profit for paying employees and keeping your doors open.

I guess this means their AX team is closed also.

I totally understand. Some on this board think that dirt bikes are money makers for these shops but in reality it's just a very small part of their business.

I think the AX team has been separate people, from the shop, for several years.

Made a killing.....you really have absolutely no idea what you are talking about!

Do you honestly think that the motorcycle industry's 40% mark up on aftermarket products is a killing??? If you honestly think this there are 1000's of motorcycle dealers out there that would like your investment $$$ and gladly share this wealth.

Please do the math! I will make this simple for you.........a $10.00 whole sale part (often not including shipping to them BTW) is retailed at $14.00 now give it the 20% discount that so many who ride think they deserve ......that part just sold for $11.20 or a whopping $1.20 profit on their investment! Now that whopping $1.20 has to still pay for all of the employees you see running around.....that is why you will see so many shops closing their doors this year!

At Christmas I visited a 30 year old 4 line dealership in my home town that I worked at for 10 years and they have reduced their accessories inventory down 75% and their shelves that were once full of product were empty. The manager told me he had cut it down to $250k by not reordering things that sold.

People do not own motorcycle dealerships to make a killing. They own them because they love motorcycles.

You must be limiting yourself to dirt...because the profit on street bikes is decent. And you can make a ton of money off used bikes, jet skis, jet boats, ATVs etc.

I always hear that racers want discounts all the time, which is true. But look how much stuff we buy. It's nothing for a racer to drop $1000/month on parts and accessories. If a shop cultivates a relationship with a rider, they should be able to make money off of him.

But I do realize the margins on dirt bikes are very low. What has sustained the bike shops is cruiser riders decking themselves out in chrome and leather accessories to look good when they trailer their bike down to Daytona.

Send me a pm on a out the door price.Like Dave said there two different companys and tuf racing is still going with the arenacross team.Tuf powersports is locked up.Thing I don't get is they were selling mules like crazy about 10 a week so what happened I don't know.A buddy of mine lives across the street and said they were loading bikes and mules onto flat beds and leaving with them last week so what happened to them don't know but it sucks for us here that used tuf for parts and bikes.Andy is a cool guy and had tuf back to credibility around here.

Its not just Dirt I am referring to.....Sport bike, Street cruzer, Atv, PWC...its all the same companies and same industry standards.

BTW I have been in the industry for 29 years now from the dealership level to working for Tucker Rocky and others before starting my own brand of products. I still rep for a couple of the companies part time...... so I do honestly know all sides of what I am talking about.

All of you.....you know that place you picked up that shiny new scooter from???? They need your help to stay open! Buy what and when you can from them.....or they too may have a closed sign in their front window! and...... then where will you pick up your next scooter???

Hey lumpy don't you know this is the day and age of the internet. People don't need dealerships they can buy it off the internet and then when it breaks they can plug it into there computer and the internet will fix it for them for free. LOL J/K

Seriously everybody needs to support there local dealer or independant shop. Times are really tough right now and everybody can use the help. If your local guy doesn't have it in stock most of the time he can get it in a day or two so spend your money in your local market.

i think that there was a bunch of places closed in Northern IL this last month. Tuf, Pro Source, Banzai, Wild Side, B&M, and a host of others that are on the cliff.

Market is readjusting and it's going to hurt alot of people.

Andy is a good guy, and one heck of a fast rider. hope someone can rekindle one or more of these places.

A lot more dealers will probably close before this is all over.

Dealerships do not make the money you guys think we do. It is sad really when you think about how much money owners put in risk by opening big dealerships. We have a few very large dealers around and I would bet we will see one more close if things don't get better. This would be the 2nd one to close if one does just this year. That would take our metro area down to 4 dealers from 8 at one point 4 years ago.

I am all for weeding out the weak, but we still need places to go and hang out, bench race, see the new accessories for our toys and ofcourse see the new bikes every year.

BTW, dirtbike customers are the lowest level of the food chain. I hate it, but it is true. They (myself included) think they are entitled to huge discounts for running stickers and racing the local circuit. To the coments about I spend thousands a month, good for you and I hope you keep it local. Over my years, I have seen very few spend that kind of money, maybe one or two. Thats over the last 10 years. The average "racer" spends maybe 800.00 dollars a year...

I heard rumblings in Louisville this past weekend that DGY was closing up shop as well? Does anyone know if this is true?

I've been in this business my entire life as the parts manager for several local dealers. Trust me the shops don't make what you think they do. As much as we love helping everyone out as much as we can we still ned to watch the bottom line and actually make money.

There is an old joke that goes around....."how do you make a million dollars in the motorcycle business???? Start with 2 million."

It's always disappointing when a shop goes out. Unfortunately it won't end soon unless people get out and spend a little cash. Even a couple of buck for a video or a new jersey would go a long way in keeping your local shop open.

Dupage Honda Yamaha is a dealership in West Chicago, IL. If you live out in the Dekalb Area, it's a straight shot down 64 (and a great ride to take on your bike). It's on the corner of County Farm and 64. They carry Honda and Yamaha products, have an excellent service department, a helpful parts staff and great prices. Anyone that was dependant on Prosource, Tuf, Las Vegas Charlies or Wildside Yamaha (as owed by Tuf) should come out to Dupage. :o)

I've heard rumors... and won't talk about them... but I will say that a good chunk of those dealerships that have closed in Chicago area closed not entirely because of economy reasons.
