Full face helmet recommendation for 15 month old

My son uses a giro bicycle helmet on his strider. Looking to get him a full face helmet but mot sure what to order. Local shops don't have anything close to being small enough and his head is big for his age. I use arai but they don't look to make anything small enough. Can anyone shed some light on which brands offer the smallest sizes

My son uses the Fly Default on his strider. Since it's a BMX helmet it's really, really light. He had a really small one industries on before that.

We used a fly mx helmet, youth obviously for strider racing racing etc.

I believe the Fly BMX helmets are the lightest ones around. I searched all over and ended up getting one for my son just before he turned 3 and it's good. However at 15 months I'd be a little concerned with that weight being supported by his neck.

I use a Pryme helmet for my 2 and 4 year old. They are full face BMX helmets but are soooo much lighter and fit tighter than any Fly, Bell, Fox MX or MTB helmets. I would use their giro helmets

I'd definitely be at least a little concerned about the neck and bone density issues at less than 24 mos.

Not saying to not do it, everyone parents differently and I've made plenty of mistakes of my own, but I'd have a hard time rushing them along that fast.

Did DC just announce a new 18-36mo class or sumpin?

This is an FYI and without judgement to OP. One thing to consider, at that young of an age, are "soft spots" (fontanelles) and their closure. In particular the "front" (anterior) one. Typical closure is around 18-24 months (which should be the last one). So, its possible, that he would have an "opening", without skull closure, that could compromise protection more so than at a later age.

That young...I would think anything designed to protect would also weigh enough to cause damage on its own. There is not much neck muscle at that age.

Get some type of neck support. Their spine isn't developed enough to protect from injury. I don't want to start that debate, but at that young of an age they are at a higher risk of neck injury.

At fifteen months, a child doesn't have the necessary muscle structure to support the additional weight of a helmet on their head. Kids are bobble heads to begin with due to the disproportionate weight of their head. Adding weight compounds the problem.

And like any helmet for anyone...fit is paramount.

All that being said, I don't think I'd be putting a child that young in any helmet of weight. I'd wait a bit longer.

I don't remember being 15 months old but I know for a fact I rode around as a kid without a helmet. You know...back in my day. Look how good I turned out.

Actually Honda announced the crf60r class to go with the new bike, its a 4 stroke with twin pipes, e-start option and will retail at $5300.00

For that young of age, I strongly recommend a Nutcase Baby Nutty. Not full faced, but designed to correctly fit a child that young and is super comfortable and light. Its what we used on our son until he turned 3.

Actually now that I think about it we did not use the full face until later on due to the weight concern. We used a skate style one instead until maybe 3 and started using the fly mx then with no issues.

Far from negligence. Teaching coordination, balance and independence. We let our son start bmx at 18 months. This was after proving he could handle the bike and coast with his feet up.

Seems a bit rushed to me, but like I said I've made plenty of mistakes as a parent so perhaps I was just overly cautious. I just don't think a child that age has the skeletal strength at that point, but obviously every kid is different. Unfortunately, you can't really "see" skeletal strength and development, so using a "size test" isn't all that good.

Hopefully they get a very good, lightweight helmet and the kid loves riding his strider!

Slightly off topic, but I find it interesting that some young kids can rail and learn to ride a dirt bike, but hasn"t learned how to stop shitting their pants!

Thanks for all the responses but to clear some stuff up. I'm not putting my son on a motorbike until he isn't least 2 or 3. I was looking for a full face helmet due to end of the year sales coming out and possibly getting a higher end helmet at a low end price.
