I'm getting a new bike after New Years and I'm really struggling to decide which to get. I race 250c and open c is this 2 stroke really as smooth as the magazines and videos say it is ? Or are they just trying to help ktm sell they're bike.

Get a 250f a two stroke will never be a smooth and tractable as a 250f. unless you ride a lot of sand or loose conditions then I feel like a two stoke is pretty good. Two strokes are a lot easier to sell too

I'm super biased as I've become a complete two stroke nut, but IMO there would never be a situation where I feel like a 250f would be more fun. I race 450 B and vet master on my 17 250sx, I'd image against 250f's you'd have an advantage in almost all conditions.

I'm coming off a 2015 rmz450 and a 2006 rm250. Sure it's a smooth power band, but it's still all two stroke. I'd really not classify as much smoother than my 06, it's def much faster though.

I like two strokes as much as the next guy, but it is easier to go fast on a 250f...especially in C class

The 2 stroke vibration comments always make me smile.

I have a 2006 Crf250r chassis with a Cr500 motor.

All the 2 strokes I've ever owned or ridden only vibrate when you are sitting still.

Who sits still on a mx bike?

I think I'm just going to go with the 2 stroke I just worry i won't be as competitive on it as I am on the 4. But I guess I don't know till I try it.

250f. Rode both. That 250 is not for a c class rider and the 250f is best to date. Will even get away from you a little

Why not a 125 or 150? A 150 would probably better suite you. Especially if you've never ridden a 2 stroke before.

If you are racing a lot , I say get the 250f. They are easier to ride harder and over the course of the season that will pay off. Like someone else said, if you are riding a lot of sandy tracks, or like to play ride in the dunes, freeride, etc. then go with the 2 stroke.

I haven't ridden the new 250sx, but am definitely thinking about buying one and would be coming off of 2013 250sx. I can't imagine the 17 is going to be that much different than any other smoker I have owned. It is still a different riding style and one that takes more skill than any 4s I have ridden.

In the 250 class. 250 twostroke all day. Way more competitive. More fun. Better starts. Better handling. Better sound. Cheeper rebuilds. More trophys. More chicks. It's a win win win.

We just went thru this drill - 250F or 250SX. We leaned towards the 250F but settled on the 250SX. We are currently selling a 2016 250SX and I can tell you the vibration from the 2016 to 2017 - it is gone just like they say. On the bottom it is smooth as you roll on the power. It is still a rocket ship up top but the bottom rolls on almost as smooth as the 250Fs we have tried. Vibration? What vibration? Believe the hype! KTM did their homework once again.

These 2 strokes are bad-ss, period. If they aren't smooth enough, put s flywheel weight. If you don't like it, try and sell it to get the 4-stroke.

But just get what you really want or wherever you can get the best deal.

In my experience my results were better on the 2 stroke than they would have been on the 4 stroke. Reason being is the start.
You really have to stuff something up to not be in the first few bikes into the first corner. One of the tracks I used to race at ran all the 250's in one class, no grades. I would generally be in the first few bikes off the start and then the fast guys would come through and pull away. Eventually the guys who were only a little bit faster would catch me but all I had to do was hold my lines and then use the power out of the corners to gap them enough that they couldn't make a move at the next corner.
If I'd have started back with those guys they most likely would have beaten me.
At the end of one race as I was pushing my bike through the pits the father of a guy I was holding up asked him what happened. He said to his dad I just had nothing for that ktm.
