I've been thinking more and more about electric bikes since Josh hill on the ALTA at Straight rhythm.
Whilst noise and smell of the bikes is a massive part of the sport and something we've all grown up with and love,
I feel it's time everyone got behind the change and the push to electric.
The biggest hold back for the sport is the 'anti socialness' around the noise of the bikes.
Once the noise dissapears, you can have a track literally anywhere means better and more tracks, which then opens up the sport to a size non of us ever thought possible.
The future is electric!
(no i don't work for ALTA lol)

Competitive electric bikes are good for the sport.
Times are changing so fast, I think the sport needs to embrace it. Kids of today who are coming up with electric will look back laugh and say look and those noisy, dirty, unreliable, smokey old things. Whilst people like me will be in my shed reflecting back on what was great about the sport and bikes in 'our' time.
To think that there won't be more tracks is radiculous. We have land but we also have a business (a concrete works) I haven't built a track because I don't want to give the neighbours an excuse to complain as they're pretty good about the factory. With an electric bike, building a track is the 1st thing I will do!
Electric solves nothing
Yes, electric will be a thing that will gain popularity as time marches on; no, it is not the end to moto as we know it. If there are competitive and technological advancements to be made it will be raced in some capacity or another.
When they're better, and more reasonably priced, people will buy them and definitely have fun on them.
However, one example where I don't think noise matters is on ATV-only trails, and around here, we aren't allowed to ride in ditches. Even if we were quiet, I don't think we'd be allowed. I think it's a concern of us digging ruts or whatever.
I do think it could allow tracks to be closer to homes without people being annoyed by the noise.
So we'll still be on cheap to keep 2 strokes.
Nobody gives 2 shits about the Tesla when he starts it.

You could be rolling a triple while a guy behind you wants to send it and you would never know he was even there. Same thing for blockpasses, etc. and also things like whiskey throttle.. Would the thing we call a "bog" still exist?
I don't think many people realize how much we rely on the sound and vibrations of the bike to make decisions on the track.
Water, ya. Just thinking there are times in Cali, or anywhere really, where you water then ten minutes later its dusty.
They could help certain issues, but people will also find any reason to not like bikes
I can give you a good 10 main riding trails that anything motorized is banned.
