How much are PW50's going for?

MSRP on yamaha.com is $1,449 for a brand new 2017.

I'll be looking for one in about 8months for my boy, prices for them here are about like old junk Tacoma's. You can buy a new one for 1400 or a 10yr old one for 700. Just doesn't add up IMO.

One of the very few used dirt bikes that hold some value on the used market, if they're not bastardized by a clueless owner.

Ive yet to see one under $600, even non running units. They mostly hover in the 800-1000 range no matter the year

I bought my daughter a ttr50 last year which msrp was $1549 and I paid a little over $1900 otd. Never thought I'd ever pay that for a 50. And that was with a deal

I am actually going to the dealer this morning to pick one up. I searched high and low for one, and almost everyone of them was worn down and abused. I guess some people think that since its small it doesn't need to be maintained as much...idk. Not to mention they were asking $800 to $1000 and wouldn't budge. At that point for an extra $500-$700 I could buy a brand new one and not have to worry if it had been taken care of or not.

Long story short, Pw50's and CRF50's will sell no matter what. The dealerships rarely offer better pricing because of it. I searched and called over 10 dealerships until I found one listed below MSRP. Should be OTD for a little under $1400 today.

Best advice is to do start looking now, and search everywhere possible.You will eventually find one that has either been taken care of, or the dealer gave you a good price.

I have three, I bought all for around 500 bucks. It doesn't really matter what year you get because they are all basically the same. Those things are tanks. Even if you buy one for cheap, and it needs to be fixed in some way, the parts are cheap. I bought one that needed a top end for $350. It only cost me about $200 to fix it and it was like new. So basically, I wouldn't dish out the bucks for a new one. Especially since they are temporary anyway. It doesn't take long for kids to grow out of a PW50........I hope this makes sense, I haven't been awake very long.

I bought mine new before my son turned 2. He just turned 6 so end of 2017 were getting a ktm 50. Tons of issues tuning the thing but he's loving it now.

Lowest margin bike on the market basically. At most well run shops the service department charges the sales department their door rate to pdi the unit, the sales departments cost to sell is actually higher than MSRP.....I'm a sales manager at a Yamaha/BRP/Husky dealer, I always get allstars trying to negotiate price on one....PW50's also come 3 to a crate so when you build one you have to built 3. I always have my tech remove the washer fromt the header pipe so it actually will run.

they go for what someone is willing to pay. i lucked out and got one for 350! then i sold it for 950!

They stay around the 300- 500 range here. I did buy ours years ago for $350.

I almost bought a new one this year. Quotes ranged from $1500-$2000 OTD. Bought a 99 that ran perfect for $300 instead, selling it now for $800 since I just picked up a basically new 2009 for $500

I picked this one up for 300 last year, minus the training wheels. Early 90's till now they're all the same.

I bought my boys PW for $500, needed a piston and robbed out together. I also bought it from a friend so I had some of the history on it.

Guess I got lucky. $500 for a nice stock 2003 with adjustable training wheels.
Paid $200 for a kdx 50 that was stored outdoors.
It runs right and all.
My 2 1/2 year old kid likes the beat looking kdx better because it's green. ...
My nephew rides the pw.

Grab a jr50 or kdx50 if the price is right.
The only difference worth noting is shaft vs chain drive. Power and the size are close enough to the same as a pw. Pw parts are cheaper and easier to get too.

Hard to get a good 1 secondhand as they are usually passed down in families or to other members of the family.
A new one in Oz retails for around $1800 they usually have Christmas specials and knock a couple hundred off and throw in a heap of goodies like tents etc

I just picked up a 2007 PW 50 for my kid. Seems like it's in good shape but I have no real way of knowing. What are some recommendations to look at engine wise? I'm happy doing a top and but I don't know if it needs it or not.

Just use non-ethanol gas and good oil and run it.
I don't think you need to treat it like a 125/250 two stroke. If the compression feels OK at the kicker just run it.

I changed reeds on ours and that made it run a lot better. Clean the jetting up too.
