Many VitalMX members will remmeber a post on here a few weeks ago, paying tribute the Dave Kimmey's uncle, who had done so much to establish motocross in Florida.
Dave, president on Engine Ice Inc, commissioned me to paint a tribute to his late uncle on canvas, as a present and lasting momento for his father.
Here's the result of that commission. It was quite a challenge to paint purely using a palate of warm & cool gray's, to replicate the original b/w photo, but I hope I captured the
moment with this painting.
Please let me know what you think of it?

This is the original photo I had to work from.

Just a little finishing touch to reveal, I put a clear gloss varnish on the crome fork tubes, handlebars and on the glasses. Really gives it a lift, life like shine when you see the original. I also drew more of his throttle hand than was in original photo, as composition would look funny if both hands disappeared out of the frame. Since looking at painting on here, you get a different perspective and now realise it needs a bit more work, highlights and shading on his throttle hand, before I can say it's definately done. Thanks to everyone for your kinds words. Makes achieving Dave's vision far more rewarding, knowing other people appreciate my work.

Ps. Can anyone ID the bike from the fork, triple clamps and levers????

You know the photo reminds me of the Famous one with Steve McQueen except he has his shirt on.

I really like it! You've captured the vintage/nostalgic feel.

After seeing Rothko at the Tate Modern in London, I figured I could do abstract art. I was dead wrong and painting is really hard (especially if you have no artistic talent).
