I've got some old helmet cam footage from around 2001- It's on VHS, but I'll try and covert it in the next few days and post it-

There's dozens of tracks like this all over the country that were shut down due to noise issues.

Maybe once the sport switches over from gas to electric bikes, places like this could be brought back from the dead.

I had a friend who got the hole shot and next thing I know he was smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer. He said it was all he had but it was great. Some of you probably know him.

Mosier Valley shut down for the all mighty greed from the natural gas business. The place I grew up riding 15 minutes from anywhere in the dfw area it seemed.

Lake Whitney is my favorite track of all time. It would be impossible to go walk around and check the track out without risking being popped for trespassing. I heard a few months ago from a reliable source that a portion of the ranch that includes the track has been or will be sold and subdivided. It's a shame.

I was at Mosier often times once or twice a week in the late 90s and early 2000s. In fact, I was at the very last practice they ever had. I remember the end of it and I believe it was the city alongside the housing developer that put in the neigbhorhood that were responsible for its ultimate demise.

Not that anyone cares, but back in the day I raced quad's, I got to be the first quad to go up the big uphill. Never got to race it on a dirt bike, but would have loved to.

Jerry Surber was the reason in the end Mosier was shut down. He had no permits for anything when the city started snooping around the place. In the end it was better for Surber to sell to the city and keep the mineral rights. You are right about the housing developer for the mobile homes. But they also built gas wells that I'm sure made plenty of noise also. Pretty sad that the place was so close to the metroplex area. Had so many memories of that place also growing up.

Is that the first turn in the background?

Thanks. Yes, that's the first turn in the background. Surber was running the track backwards that day. He installed a little detour in the middle of the sweeper that went into the infield, and that's where this pic was taken.

Ahh gotcha. I remember one moto I dumped the clutch a nanosecond too early, hit the gate and had to pull the bike back so the gate would fall, then take off. I was dead last in that mega deep loam (but was right up with the pack) and got roosted senseless by the entire class with that incredible Whitney dirt. Laughing Great times.

My first impression of Lake Whitney will always hold value! It was my first race ever in TX (Feb '97) and i had a great day of racing w/ the locals. A few years later and i would become a local.

Has anyone else got any pics of ghost tracks & the memories they hold? It would certainly keep my fetish for abandoned tracks ticking along nicely

Must have gotten a good start, Squires. Clean gear and bike!

Clearly a Vet moto, ha. Pro class moto's on 2 stroke were getting tougher. Whitney was fairly narrow in spots and you had to be patient and set up passes.

Good Times nationals in the late 80's-early 90's made some of my best teenage memories.

In 1983 had a new RM250D, came off after 1st moto after leading, and told Lucky Nichols I thought the dampning needed adjusted on the forks. . He told me if I would ride it harder I wouldn't notice... SO... I picked him up and was gonna throw him in the river (Flood Gates were open). As I approached the bank of the river and was about to throw him in. He got a big hand full of my Gonads and squeezed. I asked him where he wanted me to put him down. He was now in control. Now that's the kind of memories you get from racing at Whitney!

Rare shot of David Bailey getting out of shape at the last pro national at Whitney in '83. That's me behind him. Wish I could say we were battling for a podium spot. Instead it was late in the moto and I was being lapped. I had crashed hard the on the first lap. Think this was in June. Super hot. Track stayed pretty good both moto's. Loved that place!!!

I beat Whitley and was only about 20 seconds back of Cooper back in 86 day after the Dallas SX, (Copper easily went 1-1) in what was my last race. Great place to race, I always liked that you could put your jetski in the water if it wasn't too low.

First time I raced Whitney, it poured hard rain all the way to the track (days before cellphones) and I just knew by the time I got there, they would call the race due to weather. I mean it was flooding everywhere.

Rolled up to the check-in building and immediately asked, "Is the race still on? Rained out?"

Lisa looked up and said, "You've never been here before have you?"

I said, "No, but its a sloppy swamp everywhere."

She said, "This is Whitney, best dirt in Texas. Go unload and put your gear on, practice is in an hour...."

And boy was she right. Even with the huge rainfall, that dirt still held up and after a few sticky practice rounds, the track was premo for racing.

Love seeing the old pictures. Anyone have any of the mountain?

I always liked this video. Zeb Smith was on the gas back in 2010.

Pinhancos was on a tear for a while. Quite a ways in front of Forkner and Crown. Did the same thing at Ponca. Still surprised we havent seen much from him these days.

In a strange way, the fact nature has claimed back the track so efficiently is good news for anyone trying to shut a track claiming moto does permanent damage..
