Changes were made for '07, and most believe not in the right direction. The frame is slightly different. The '07 and '08 are identical. The '06 is widely regarded as the best of all the years.
They changed the pivot area to reduce chain torque. I think they raised it, if I remember correctly. Anything from 04 on up is gold. It's more important to set it up correctly for yourself, and keep it fresh. I love the steel frame of those bike, they flex a bit and don't beat you up. I had a AF CR125 Honda and my steel framed RM125. Rode them side by side, jumping off one and onto the other. My RM was so much smoother, and faster. I sold the CR, kept the RM. Both were modded a bit.

I believe they raised the front engine mounts about half an inch to bring the front sprocket up higher. I could be wrong - but I think they did it for RC racing SX on it (Also maybe an extra gusset around the head stock).

After years of dealing with bikes that you had to muscle to turn, I am excited to ride the RM. Going to the track today to see how she does.

This has to be the best used two smoker grab of the year, nice work!
Thanks black diamond, but wait It gets better!. I scored this 09 for 2 grand the same day! Never even had the chain adjusted. I'm not rich or anything but these were to good to pass up. The rm is a better bike though.

Unbelievable deal on this bike! People don't know what they have....

Do you just troll craigslist constantly waiting to snatch things up like this?

I love my rm250 never had a bike that has cornered this well especially on a big bike. On the track it feels so nimble and will go any where. The motor (k4) is very abrupt with a near instantaneous throttle response so I put back on the 10oz fww. However with a full pc system and vforce 3 it feels like the weight isn't there now lol. I still think the yz250 has a better stock motor and suspension.

How are you finding these 2 strokes lol you got a collection started now. I guess everyone in your area thinks they are dinosaurs and not competitive anymore.

The 04 rm has my favorite powerband of all the 250s. But I like super snappy and quick.. I actually lighten my Yamaha flywheels to make them feel more like the rm power plant. I'll get hell for that on this site but I hate a sluggish bottom response. I have the throttle control to make it work and I like it all in my right wrist.! I agree with you stock for stock suspension is a smidgen better on blue but I don't ever leave them stock.. Mb1 has my settings dialed for all the smokers and it's a safety thing for me to get them set up. Once set up I think the rm is just better everywhere with exception of super rough choppy conditions right at the moment you let off the gas. That's when things get interesting. But then you just get back on the gas. I just got lucky and picked up the phone first on these deals.. . I currently own an 06-00 cr 250 hybrid. 3 rm 250s 04,05,07. 09Yz 250. Mint 01 Cr 500. 01 cr 125, 08 crf 450,my new 16 ktm 350 and a Honda 50 . So I've got a few scoots lol. don't even get me started on the ones I've bought ridden and sold!

No I don't get on Craig's much. Something like once every 2 weeks. Just right place at the right time. I've got 2 kiddos so that's what my free time goes to these days.

Dude sweet!!! I hope you like it. Either people love rm's or they hate them. They require a little more love to keep fresh than a Honda or Yamaha but it's worth it! If it doesn't have a good clutch basket in it already, put one in when you can. The clutch is the worst part of that bike. They are jumpy and unpredictable when letting out the lever on the starting line..

The previous owner did all that and more. He put in a new clutch and clutch basket and he even had the suspension done at factory connection. Oh yeah we are the same size and ability. Saved me another $700. Everything is fresh and tight. This bike carves like no other bike I have ever ridden.

Took it to MX207 here in Southern Maine. One of the best tracks in New England and it has a little of everything to test the RM. Waiting on my numbers, feel funny running black backgrounds.

What are you guys running for gearing. The 13-51 on my bike seems too short for what I am riding.

I just put a 51 on my bike have yet to test it out. Ran a 50 all this year which is stock gearing. 2nd is short and 3rd is too wide to clutch out of the tight corners with this gearing. I only ride a smaller tight track so I'm looking to pull 3rd out of the corners a lot more and possibly click 4th. The 03 rm250 came with a 49 stock.

May be digger can chime in believe he rides at the same track.

I'm currently running 13/51. I have ran 13/49,50& now 51. 2nd gear starts with a quick shift to 3rd. My 2006 seems to have a nice pull in third so I use 3rd as my work horse gear. Most of our tracks are fairly tight with an exception like Hangtown and the Oatfield.

Of course riding style and how aggressive one rides will also play a factor. I'm 53 and race Vet MX with the OTHG so that makes me older and slower.....

Gnarly here, too.

I am going to run the 13-51 gears for bit longer and see if I can get used to it. Another question I have for you guys is that it looks as though I have a reed spacer, is this a stock item?
