I feel for TEAM BTO
As a former crew member I always took pride in our teams semi. Working with the crew & my various semi drivers over my many yrs the semi was a symbol, a home, our life line at all the races around the country!!
For me as important as the riders & race bikes themselves!!
Regardless of a teams budget, it's always a home away from home.
Your main base of operations outside of your shop.
With 3 rounds to go I'm gutted for them.
Curious to hear what the cause was.
At YOT in Seattle, our lounge had an electrical fire.
My driver saved our asses & the semi too!!
Props to KTM & TLD in helping them survive & make it through the weekend.

So bummed for all the BTO team. But hey Shorty won his first 450 supercross riding a basically stock bike. Let's hope for the best!

I remember waking up at Loretta Lynn's one year and seeing the old FMF rig still smoldering it burnt pretty much to the ground if I remember correctly

RC car racing is a second hobby of mine and a fellow local racer had his house burnt down due to a LiPo battery catching fire. It happens. I've seen the batteries in pit bits before that the TLD guys use and they are just a typical RC LiPo battery. Lightweight and powerful, yet potentially dangerous.

Some Instagram videos are live of Shorty's bike up and running! Apparently Factory KTM, TLD and Husky came together to build a bike tonight!

Nice to see everyone working together and putting together new bikes in no time. Horrible news anyway.

That's plain awful to see/hear.

Many people don't know but lithium batteries are some of the most dangerous batteries out there, it wouldn't be the first time a cell goes bad and catches fire. look up "lipo fire" on youtube.

If there is one thing you can take from this, its that we are all in it together. Have a fire? Fine, we will build our competition a bike from our spare parts. Truly amazing.

I was half hoping someone would run to the local KTM dealer and buy a new bike off the floor, throw on a tape 29 and let Shorty get a top ten with a stock bike.

If i'm KTM thats the first thing to do right now: get them a stock bike from a local shop, see short get 21st or something like that and do a campaign that says "our stock bikes are that good, you can buy them in the morning and get 21st at the nationals the same day"

I agree. This would be a major marketing point for a while.

Will Shorty be running a spring shock today?

Bravo to TLD and Factory KTM for getting the bikes ready last night.

We at Engine Ice were devastated in hearing the news of the fire in the BTO Sports/WPS/Factory KTM rig at Unadilla last night.
We are SUPER PROUD of the team in pulling an all-nighter, with the help of Factory KTM and Factory Husqvarna, and getting bikes built and ready to go for today's AMA Pro National at Unadilla.
Great job guys! Go get 'em!

This is not a team that will feel pity for themselves, but instead will hold their heads high, keep their chin up, and dig in to not just get the job done, but to prove that nothing will hold them back.

My buddy's house burned down 2 years ago from a RC car plugged in the garage. He was home with his wife and two young kids. they all got out (thank god), but house was a total loss. What's scary is the garage is below the kids rooms. He was lying in bed and thought an intruder was in his garage at 11 at night. The crackling sounds he thought was glass breaking getting broken into. Went down stairs with his gun and walked into his garage going up in smoke. Charged up stairs, grabbed kids/wife and made it out.

Fire is no joke. Bikes and things are replaceable, people are not. As bad as it is, it could've been much worse for BTO.

True. Anyone who has done any kind of RC racing knows this.

Here's the interesting part. The origin was apparently an AC unit in the trailer, and not a lipo battery. It apparently was smoldering for a long time in there. Lots of heat and smoke damage. I got a peek in there this morning, and could see how the heat had radiated down the wall from the AC unit.

They were very lucky. I talked to one of the mechanics who'd been working on Short's bike. The tank was full of fuel, and had deformed, but didn't leak. If it had, it would have been much worse.
