Tomac's "parts change"

In the interview by GuyB with Tomac about muddy creek, he states he made a "parts change" that helped him improve the bike. He didn't go into detail, so I'm wondering if anyone knows/can say what the change was?

I think they installed the high-speed adjuster back into the shock so it would ride higher than the bottom 25% of the stroke....

Don't know, but his bike still seems less compliant (too deep or not I don't know) than Kenny's to me, and he is absolutely smashing into ruts, the amount of times we see him hang the bike from hitting stuff hard... Seems like he is having to go balls to the wall where as Kenny is a bit more finesse and that might be why Ken can last it out right now.

... in the second moto he and Roczen were in the same line for a moment going up one of the really rough uphills with a right turn at the top, Ken's bike looked smooth, but the Kawasaki's rear end was hopping sideways significantly...

It looked to me like the backend of that KX wants to come out under acceleration rather than hooking up. Obviously that could be rider input, but he still doesn't look like the same Eli yet and has not got the bike working to his satisfaction.

I wonder if he's still using that triple clamp setup he had going during SX?

Can't remember where I heard it but I thought I had heard him say it was a clutch change last week?

Less material, more flex!!!

No wonder the backend of that bike was bouncing everywhere!

Tomac's bike corners like a Honda, KTM, YAM, Suzuki I and a Husky. Kroc is the problem not his bike.

Oh yes, The old magic part trick.

The magic part that Tomac needs cost nothing. Confidence! He is getting a little more of it every week.

why don't you people listen to guyb's question before writing random stuff. they talk about starts and what eli did to improve them on the off weekend. so eli replied they made a parts change that improved his starts.

It was said during the broadcast, I heard it too!

It looks like tomacs jersey is creating more drag, where as roczen slips through the air like an ice cube on a hit surface. Also tomacs goggles clearly looked to have less vision then roczen, and most importantly I could tell roczen had 12.25psi in his back tire which is perfect. Tomac had 14.34psi, which is why he had no grip. Those are my obvious observations as to why Tomac lost, that part thingy has nothing to do with it.

I know what part he switched out but not allowed to tell the public. But will say this, when he hits 88 MPH, his bike clicks into a new whole gear!

He went 1 tooth smaller on the rear sprocket!

while watching Tomac in his 2nd moto I thought his bike looked more solid than it had been in previous weeks. OR maybe it was behaving better because Tomac was doing something different and better.

RMZ# sad "KROC is the problem" That might be changing as well. The championship has gotten away unless something really bad happens to Roczen, but Tomac looked to me like a guy who thinks he is there again.

at this point Tomac's only hope is to let the air out of Kenny's tires before the moto

How does that work if the MEK team uses Hinson clutches? Does Hinson make a hydraulic clutch specifically for Eli? Huh Not doubting anyone's credibility, just confused.

tomac probably just wants that monkey of his back and win a bloody moto. I don't think he is even thinking about the championship at the moment.

"Eli crushed it today". Those words came straight from Roczen"s mouth. ET's bike may not be handling as well as all the engineers on Vital say it should be, but no doubt, Eli is picking up speed and put the pressure on Roczen at Muddy Creek for the overall. Time will tell on what happens, and anything can, but I am looking forward to more battles between these two.

Its a damn shame these 2 guys have not been on the same page more in the 450 class. I go back and watch the 2013 250 outdoor races betwen those 2 and its just a dogfight! Not to mention the 2013 mxdn in Germany where they pushed each other to the breaking point.

I think that when they are both at the same place physically and with equipment they are about as close in speed as any top 2 contenders have been in a long long time.

If you couldn't hear it (the mic I use is very directional, and doesn't get my questions very clearly), I was asking him if he burnt up a bunch of clutch plates during the weekend off practicing starts. That's where his comment about the parts change came in.

Yeah, I should have pried more.

Let's think about it for a sec...what would affect his starts? I'd guess anything between the fingers on his left hand and the clutch...or the height of the start device. I know he monkeyed with a rear start device in the past, but I don't think they use one on the Kawi. If I had to guess? I'd say clutch.
