That is simply a reflection of my riding ability and nothing more. Slip comes highly recommended by me for motor and suspension work.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'd like to have slipdog port the cylinder some day.

Nice build . you should get the older Titanium shock spring if it fits the newer model. Must be some weight shaved there

Do you have a link or a part number for the scale you've been using? I'd like to get my hands on one like that.

Your sub-frame made me think of a suggestion I do to my own YZ's:
Grab some 2" wide PVC pipe insulation tape in the 20-mil thickness (0.020"). Install on the aluminum and heat-gun it down like you do with graphics in all of the places where the air-box, seat and fender rub on the sub-frame.

It prevents dirt/sand/dust from grinding down into the metal and it will last a season of hard racing.

Thanks for the idea -- I've used sticky felt for things like that before but it doesn't hold up very long...

This is the scale I bought -- I know how much I weigh and how much some things weigh and I'd say it's fairly accurate.

One compliant: Things get "heavier" if they sit on the scale for a long time. It's not good for the really light stuff either... the reviews will tell you more.

I put a piece of plywood on it first and then the stand...

Are there better scales? For sure! Better for the price? Probably not.

I am sorry for your misfortune but am pumped that things worked out in the end. I am also happy that Geico insurance worked and worked better than you were expecting since that's who I have insuring my bike. Good job on the new bike!

Actually, since you have radiator guards you can mount your hour meter on them.

I mounted mine on the right side above the pipe on the radiator guard. It is nicely protected from roost and abuse but you can still glance down and easily read it thru the cutout in the radiator shroud.

Not sure which radiator guards I have ( at work ) and mine still has the old style plastic so your cutouts might be positioned slightly differently, but one look at your bike will tell you if it will work for you. Drill two holes and mount it up.

Totally agree on NOT running black rims.

BTW - in Jody's MXA article BUILDING THE ULTIMATE 2012 YAMAHA YZ250 he mentions a 4 oz. flywheel weight that Doug Dubach suggests. Never found any more info on that as Steahly def does not carry it. I wouldn't mind trying one out if anyone knows where to get.

My policy is $99 a year I believe. I'm in MA so there are a few coverages that are necessary that carry over from the street bike side, I guess which are mandated thru insurance laws. But I think $99 a year is an awesome deal. Especially now since it seems to work as advertised.

Funny you say that Geico employees don't seem to know what a motocross bike is. Last time I visited their VA headquarters, Kevin Windam's Honda 450 was prominently displayed in the lobby.

I actually called Geico to get a theft policy. I was told they offered no such thing and I should contact a local broker. I too try to support the sport and have my auto insurance through them. They were pretty clueless about mx bikes. I was transfered to 3 different departments in what turned into a 25 minute ordeal. No dice.

I paid it one lump-sum (yearly) payment and it was $134 for the coverage I wanted. I checked Progressive before buying and they were about the same.

Theft is part of "comprehensive" coverage. From GEICO's website: "Comprehensive physical damage coverage pays for covered losses resulting from incidents other than collision, such as theft, fire or vandalism."

I'm not sure but I don't think they offer just a "theft" policy which is probably why you were passed around...

I remember the MXA bit about the 4 oz FWW and I called Steahly about it even too. I went with the 7 oz and am happy with it. I'd like to try the 9 oz too someday.

Check your laws. In Ohio we aren't required to buy extra insurance like liability etc, you can just buy a theft/fire policy. Progressive would of sold me back my yz250 but it was never found. None the less 50-130 a year is well worth it when you get robbed.

Almost forgot!! Sweet story. Best thing that ever happens is when it gets jacked. You get a new bike and your old one back.

C'mon now don't be fibbin telling fishing stories again. :-)

In Ohio you now have to carry some sort of liability with your fire/theft. Doesn't matter if it's never street ridden. Most companies regardless of state have gone to this model. Progressive wouldn't have sold you your bike back if they had already paid out on the claim. You could have either gotten a buyer lisc from Copart or IAAI and purchased through them. If someone told you that, they are mistaken.

9 oz is where it's at. I run the GYTR one and it helps the bike hook up better especially on hard pack and slippery situations. Makes it almost 3 stroke like.

My policy is for fire and theft. There is no liability or collision coverage.....when did they mandate that ?

My adjustor told me I could buy the back after it was totaled if ever found. Coulda had a screwball adjustor....?

On the bare metal parts that you polished out ... did you clear coat over them or anything?

I did not. They are bare metal to begin with and I've removed the flash(ing) polished the rear break lever, kickstarter, and shift lever on my last five or six bikes. They get scratched up over time but it's easy to polish them a bit more... It's pretty quick and easy too. Plus shiny!

I'm curious about the Boyesen Power X-Wing they used on the MXA 2015 bike.

MXA review said - (1) Performance. In the saddle every test rider felt increased throttle response at low rpm, a smoother transition from the low-end to the midrange and a more flexible powerband across the range. Everything feels crisper and, best of all, the dips in the power curve are ironed out. The power is not only improved, but it becomes seamless from bottom to top.

That just happens to be exactly what I felt my motor lost when I had it ported and some head work. And the install is a no brainer.

Anyone using one?
