There may not be alot of Public land to ride but offroad parks like Red River Motorcycle trails are incredible. Some of the best trail riding I've ever experienced. There are smaller ones too, Rocky Ridge is fun, you can pretty much ride and camp where ever you like. There is another one I saw built around a giant lake bed but can't remember the name. There is so much riding out here its ridiculous, it never gets boring.

No $$ operating an MX track. I loved that track. It was right up there with Red Rock. But most DFWers perceived it to be "so far away".

I was one of the ones involved with getting I35MX up and running when Spanky (OG Owner) originally found the land. Showing up to that grassy field full of natural elevation, virgin loam and having dozers ready for whatever ideas we came up with were some of the best times I have ever had riding. Really miss that place!

I knew the Nidays were there but I guess I didnt put it together that they were actually running the track. Just thought it was a location for his training services for his riders.

So is it technically closed right now?

Bastrop night track
I was there every Wednesday after work back in 99-00.

Does anyone remember RPMX? I think that was the name. It was just down the road from Lakeside. That was a great natural terrain track! Didn't last long though.

I also miss Mills Road in Houston.

I think I rode Lakeside from 2000 through 2004, or whenever it closed.

Which one was RPMX? That one kind of rings a bell, but I just can't place it...

Anybody remember the short-lived Liberty Hill track?

RPMX was very short lived. It was located between Bastrop and Austin. Basically the took a tiller to a hilly spot, all natural with elevation changes. They had a natural seat-jump double this still to this day i miss jumping. I think it only lasted a few months. Maybe fall of 99?

RPMX was awesome. They usually prepped it really deep, which was nice. My favorite part was the big “gravity cavity” g-out with the tabletop as you jumped out of it, after the front straight. But the double you mentioned was a lot of fun, too. Really wish there were more tracks like this around.

It wasn’t open for too long, but I do remember riding it on new 2001 KTMs.

I guess I never made it there. In 99 I was still at Southwest Texas State in San Marcos and didn't do much riding while in school.

Except I rode Texas Ski Ranch a few times during those years, back when they had a track, and then I was on crutches for about 6 months...

I just had a crazy flashback to 2003 at the Cross Creek 'supercross' track.

Kenny Bartram came to the track to shoot the video, 'Chicks Dig It' by Chris Cagle, and we all rode around in the 107 degree heat for hours trying to get into the video. I remember a few of us almost having heat strokes and then most of us didn't even get in the video and they only showed about 3 seconds of riding... Good times!

Thanks.
According to their website they only have small beginner bikes. Bummer.

I will go with NW Houston FTW. You have all the great Houston tracks within 1 hours drive, the tracks out West are around 2 Hours and the National Forrest is pretty close if you like trail riding. Not sure if you are into the Ocean and fishing but we have that too and the water is WARM, no wet suit needed. You also will not mind travelling to a track because our freeways are wide and not clogged up with traffic and you can run 75 MPH+. (except rush hour in any of the big cities).

Also Houston has large nice trees and is much more green. You should spend a few days in both and see which one you prefer.

Nothing around here is big enough to really have bike rentals. Your best bet depending on where you're staying is to hook up with someone here and meet them at a track during your trip. What part of Texas will you be staying in?

VPMX is more like a private practice facility I think, had no idea they rented bikes, they fly under the radar. Just outside of the Sam Houston National Forest. Videos look great.

I still need to put our trip together. Probably the trip we wil make will include: Dallas, houston,Austin,San antonio, Big bend, amarillo and Texas hill country.
Perfect scenario would be renting a bike somewhere and go ride at Swan mx. That track looks unreal!

Not sure if there's good ADV/Dual Sporting around those areas, but definitely not much in regards to MX. Not sure why anyone would go to Amarillo for pleasure

Swan is good at the right time. They have a membership program where you can go ride during the week when the track is unprepped but it's very hard and dusty. Only prepped practice days are right before race days, and often it's a much shorter version than you see during Pro Challenge weekends. Other local DFW tracks worth your time are Oak Hill MX and my personal favorite Underground MX. If you actually make a swing through our area between my family and I we have a few spare bikes you could probably borrow.

I'm aware. I should've said an extra day.
So nothing to do in El Paso and amarillo then?
