49, I'm 6' 1". I have a 2011 Suzuki RMZ450. I love the bike and it fits me perfect. I've ridden some other bikes and the Suzuki fits my height the best. Any of the 450s would be fine though. For buying an used bike the Honda CRF450s are more plentiful and are very reliable. With you size I would get a 450. Good luck....

How new to MX? If youve never ridden a bike, weather your 6' or 10' tall I dont know that I'd recommend a 450 right off the bat to learn on. How old are you, do you have any previous riding experience? Just a few more details would help!

I agree that 450 is way too much for a new rider. Go 250F.

Save some money and find a used 250 2 stroke. Good power but not as much as a 450 and way cheaper to fix when needed.

New to motocross?

The only bike you should be looking at is a 125.

Anything else and you're just cheating yourself.

I'm 6ft I ride a KTM150 2012 model, its the perfect size for me all I needed to do is get 997 bars as the stock bars were really flat (low).

Last question, how much do you weigh? If your under 180lbs id recommend a 125 smoker and youll have more fun than you could ever imagine all while learning how to properly ride a bigger bike than your used to. If your a bit heavier, I might lean towards a 250 smoker or a 250F. The 250F is easier to ride in comparison but not near as fun as a pinger. If your basically just learning how to ride, Id stay with a 2 stroke they are cheap to maintain and fix and they make you learn proper riding technique to go fast. A 250F doesnt require near as much fitness or skill to go fast on, and you dont shift near as much but they are also nowhere near as fun as a 125 singing to you at wide open throttle.

Its been 10 years since youv'e ridden a 65 so take it easy at first reguardless of which bike you get. I know theres guys on here that will say "quit being a pussy and just get a 450", youll end up on one anyways but I strongly disagree. If your just starting out, hell even a 125 can bite you.

Be careful, have a blast, and post pics of what you get!

Cheers Kyle

First step, eat more sandwiches :-) At that weight, get the smaller engine, either 125/250F. Which one of those is the source of endless debate, and will depend a bit on your definition of "cheap". I'm not sure what secondhand bike prices are like in the UK, so I'll let someone else comment on that. But, a 450 with a 150lbs rider is a rocketship. You may need to get a tall seat or bars for a 125/250F, but the good news is, most of those bikes come with stock springs for a rider about your weight. If I were you, I'd be looking for a 2006+ yz125.

06+ YZ125. Find something that needs work so you can learn how to fix it. Built>Bought.

I'm 6'3 and find that Ktm and Kawasaki has always fit me a little better.

One size fits all according to the mcf's. 99.999% of test/pro riders are under 5' 8" and 160lbs. You can make small changes but none of the bikes will fit you. Easier to loose weight and I hear smoking cigarettes makes you shorter. Maybe KTM will make a big guy bike someday. That's our only hope.

6' 4" here. I recommend investing in some aftermarket pegs that are made 1/2" lower. Makes a huge difference! I had a 2000 YZ 250 and switched sides on the pegs and turned them upside down and they were 1/2" lowerwhich was awesome. Might have had to trim a little.

You can also go with a tall seat, but some don't like the looks. They sure are comfortable on long races.

Aren't 450s and 250s the same size? (he didnt say anything about weight so I dont see why he needs a 450)

I am 6'2". Any stock bike feels small for me. I ride a 2012 KTM 150 and would recommend you look into them, its a great bike to learn on. I run Pro Taper KX High bars and a KTM tall seat.
