I get them every time-- headache and even a mild fever for a few hours after a ride.

It's a high impact sport, and I think my body is somewhat "shocked" after the experience. I try to prepare by interval training, hydrating properly, eating well that day, and also I started wearing earplugs (to reduce the noise/fatigue), which I believe helped.

Get your diet and hydration in check.

Do you have mercury fillings by chance ? Yes I'm serious.

If you do try the netti pot, use distilled water. There have been lots of cases of people getting violently ill and several cases of people dying from netti pot usage with tap water. With tap water you are basically steaming bacteria in to your body.

Hydration starts 2-3 days before an event. Not day of or night before.

Mine come from sports asthma. Crazy. Lack of oxygen while riding. Figured it out when i started getting vertigo mid moto and decided to see a doctor

OP, be careful with the mag. It being a dilator it could make your headache worse. Kind of like nitro does.

Hydrate all the time and not just the day of. Also just a wild guess, are there any pressure points in your helmet?

No tmj. My fiancé has that. Lol.

I'm always hydrated. Day of is too late I agree. No pressure points on my helmet. Fly f2 Carbon. Best fitting helmet I've ever worn.

Cool hand your specialty is nuerology ?

I also suffer from this regularly but I know my reason. I had a TBI years ago and in which cause me to devolve post trumatic epilepsy. Just the noise and activity gives a head ache. My best to help me is to eat good the day before and during an event.

Earplugs help reduce fatigue and headaches, but they make me "disconnected" from the bike- to the point where I'm not focused on the terrain.

The helmet comment made me think. Do you have any sore spots on your head or neck? I went through a period when the migraines were more frequent and intense. I went to a neurologist and that's the first thing he asked me. I did have one at the base of my skull. He said I had an inflamed nerve on the tendon. When I got tense the tendon tightened up and rubbed on that nerve triggering the migraine. Gave me a shot of cortisone in the nerve. Wasn't pleasant to be sure but it did get things back on an even keel.

Dang, thought it was just me! I get them, too! Also some seriously foul gas.
Like wipe-out-an-entire-Starbucks bad. I usually vacate the establishment
quickly and then see people streaming for the door.

I got them when I wore a neck brace. The brace wouldn't let my head go back as far too look forward going down big hills. I guess I was staining my eyes and neck.

I have a bottle of Advil I keep in my car for the ride home. I'll take 600 mg after I load up and it helps a lot.

I always keep advil liquigels in the moto van. Pop two after I ride. Doesn't touch the headache. Take 600 mg ibuprophen before I go to bed, slurp down 20 ounces of water and wake up headache free. Just can't shake them day of riding. I ordered a mouth guard. Going to try it Wednesday. Of course, I never feel like I'm being jarred around. My suspension is on point, and I have a pretty smooth/fluid riding style. I never really jar around that much unless I'm in some seriously deep acceleration bumps coming out of a corner, but even then my shock absorbs a lot of the nastiness and my butt stays planted in the seat. My headaches have never led to nausea and I don't think I'm straining my eyes...if I'm straining my eyes it's been since I was 15....

I just hate driving two or 2.5 hours to ride and have that drive home with a mega headache. It's miserable! My closest really nice prepped track is 2 hours.

I used to get them back in the 2 stroke days. Do you race with guys on practice days and breath lots of race gas fumes? Now when i ride I try not to follow to closely to anyone. Snowmobiling was the worst. Exhaust fumes seem to be more dense in the cold air.

Advil never touched mine. Try Excedrine Migraine. It's the only thing that ever helped, if I take a couple at the start of the headache it usually heads it off. Even better than any prescription meds. Unfortunately it didn't exist when I was racing. Active ingredients: acetaminophen 200 mg, aspirin 250 mg, caffeine 65 mg.

Wouldn't combine them with the others and don't take them right before bed as I've noticed they can make going to sleep tougher. Try two with a bunch of water right before the ride home.

I have the same problem if I don't eat throughout the day.

I HAVE to have breakfast but I also bring some snacks and a sandwich with me. If I dont eat, I get a massive headache and it doesn't go away for some time.

Do you wear a kidney belt?

To all: great thread with lots of good tips. The only thing I can add is 1) sinus headaches are killer so have some nasal spray handy and 2) never hurts to have the chiro give a neck adjustment to rule that out.

Chiros work. Dated a girl that rides. And her dad was a chiro. He adjusted me at the track one time it was crazy. I rode till I got at pump. My neck kinda cricked. Came in. He adjusted it. Instantly armump went away for abut 10 more laps then he did it again. Always thought chiros were quacks until that day. THe whole midline thing really works.

I have had exertional headaches since I was a teen. I am 50 now. I have tried more things than I can count to prevent them. The only thing that works for me is Excedrin. I usually take it after my first moto. It usually works but occasionally I still get a headache. I have been tested and scanned and nothing abnormal shows up. I have learned to live with these headaches but it can be miserable at times.

You sound just like my dad. He's been scanned and all that. Nobody can tell him why....ill just try excedrin or maybe get a big dose of caffeine after I hit the track a few times.

Pissed some blood in my time. 4 inches of travel will do that.
