Hartwig??? This has to be in ref to Ryan hartwig. What about Chris considine????he was faster than sellers and Carmichael on 60s in 1990 at lorettas. What about Justin smith, Ahmad Owens and tommy Barron! This list seems skewed...that or I have much love for the super fast local boys in the mid 1990's....

I raced against those guys too and yes, i too think Ahmad Owens was the original JS7 of michigan!Smile

I remember sitting in bleachers of the spectator jump (bike blew up Wink ) and Ahmad came down across the start straight, got severe headshake, went ass over heals cartwheeling, got up like he just tipped over and took off again. Crowd was cheering and clapping him on! I remember thinking he was a tough sumbitch, i prolly would've just laid there. It was brutal
I have known ahmad and his dad jesse since before ahmad even raced and he was a pretty good B then A class rider but this topic is about " Fast Pro's " from your state! every racer that joekersanty listed were never pro's!! It's really a shame that alot of you dont even know any of the history of this sport from your own state, just the small era that you were in Sad For the record the hartwig that most people would refer to is the actual pro Mike Hartwig.

Relax dude! Nowhere does it say we can't talk about someone even if they don't "fit" the category of the main subject at hand. We have seven pages and I'm sure there are a few mentioned that weren't an actual "pro" racer. I know he and the others weren't pro but it sure was nice to hear their names and remininse about the old days of my "small" era.

BTW smarty-pants, you failed to mention.....
Barry Mayo
Dave Bowman
Dan Janeatte
Eric McLear
David Gaylord
Jeff Curry
Jeff & David Beckington
Matt Maximoff
Josh Woods

And most likely future pros....
Joey Crown (dad Matt was a pro too, wrenched for Pastrana during supermoto days)
And current 50cc Cobra rider Cole Kish

But what do I know? I'm just a guy who operates a private club like Bulldogs m/c and will be flagging the Detroit supercross this year.....again

Three National winners that I can think of off the top of my head......

Ryan Villopoto
Larry Ward
Eric Eaton

The Larson brothers were pretty fast, too........[/quote:1i06nrvu]

other fast pro riders
Jim Pomeroy (Won World MX GP)
Josh Hill
Lance Smail (4 Stroke National Champ)
Jason McCormick
Ryan Huffman
Ryan Abrigo
Kevin Urquhart
Tiger Lacey
Brad Hagseth (Canadian national champion)
Jason Raines (2-time National Hare Scrambles Champion)[/quote:1i06nrvu]

Ryan Huffman's dad Ron was no sloutch. How 'bout Ryan Terlecki?
Josh Hill belongs to WA.

Oregon didn't get him until after he was well on his way. I would claim his little brother though.

Tiger is Oregon, and while we are at it his little brother Racey.
Ryan Abrigo - pretty sure Oregon too
Rookstool
Ryan Huffman - despite the Washougal connection is Oregon born and bred. Roseburg to be exact. His dad Ralph to my knowledge never raced a day in his life. Not even sure he rode. All 4 of his brothers however did and I believe Ron is an older brother that went pretty good.
Flyin Ryan Terlecki is another good Oregon pro
Brothers Kyle and Ryan from Bandon in the mid 90's were pretty fast too. Can't remember their last name.
Jason Cross from the 90's
Tony Graves from the 80's-90's (possibly Tony Graves Jr. soon)
That new little ripper on PC this year
Horban
Not sure of his actual origins but Chuck Sun spent a lotta time in Oregon as well.

Kevin Kelly IS a badass but not on a dirtbike. He'll be the first to admit that. I think you mean his brother Ken. But definitely gets to be on the Badass Supercross related list from GA. You could and "should" have added Ryan Reynolds and maybe even Jonathan Blain. There was once fable of a guy running around the tracks named "Fidget" who was pretty awesome for a newbie...too bad about Meth though.

The topic is Fast pro's from your state, but go ahead and hi-jack the thread all you want.
BTW smarty pants,I didn't fail to mention anything. In fact I never added any michigan riders cause other posters seem to have already did.But if I did it would have included the pro's you mentioned .
I too have promoted races with our old club in the 90's and been a flagger at pontiac sx once and red bud national 91-94.

Cool man! I wish there were more, unfortunately its limited. There is a private place close to here called Dawson's MX. Super sick track.

Then within a couple hours you have Budds Creek, Tomahawk, South Fork MX, VMP, and Millwood MX.

NCMP isn't too bad of a drive either. Far enough away that weather can be shit here, but you can drive south and ride there, and be home within the same day.

Yeah, I love South Fork, and have a membership at Tomahawk as well, and recently went to NCMP. I met the younger Dawson not too long ago at an A1 party, but haven't made it out there yet.. From what I've heard, it seems a little bit over my head.
By the way, not sure if you heard, but Randall Everett just purchased some land near Stafford. I'm pretty excited to see the facility he comes up with!

Yes, Fidget was the kid that lived next to the track and was a "natural" at motorcross and I know he had an old Suzuki or Yamaha that was from the early or mid 80s and was racing against guys with new bikes and was beating them, but I think he was a C class rider before he took his dive. I could really see him going somewhere had he not gotten messed up in drugs.

I really enjoyed watching the racing that happened there in first few years there at Bremen. The pro class was awesome to watch. There was rarely a take off an leave everyone race....everyone was battling it out from start to finish.

Not sure who you are Goose, but Craig Ehnat is one of the fastest 80 riders I've ever seen! Especially at his home track. If you ever had the chance to ride out there tonsould know how huge everything was. I still have pictures of Phil riding at Loretta's against B. Layton at Loretta's.

Like I said many, many people from WA I knew I, and know I'm still forgetting some really fast people! It seems everyone in this board likes to stay in Mid 70's to Mid 80's to Current to mid 2000's so I guess I forgot the mid 90's to early 00's Sad

Such as

Shon Wilson
Phil Ehnat
Lance Phillips
Sean Haberlock
Weston Potter
Brad Hagseth
Jason McCormick
Miles Warren
Josh McBride
Greg Crater
Eric Waunch
Brandon Thomas

Still forgetting people and I know it! Fill in the blanks WA!

I'm also surprised nobody from Idaho has mentioned Jimmy Lamastus that I've seen posted. That guy railed that
corner faster than I had ever seen a corner railed on the Children of Metal Gods VHS on a 1997 CR 250 4th pinned dragging bars at the the Fossil Bowl. It was truly epic wish I could find a clip of it somewhere.

Yeah it was tragic. If anyone doesn't know the story Pat Jacobson landed a Factory Suzuki ride only to Holeshot is first national on the factory bike and crashed at the end of the first corner and was unfortunately paralyzed.

Didn't stop him from becoming great at everything else in his life that he wanted though. Went to school, great career, great outlook on life, and even better golfer.

So after mentioning Jimmy Lamastus above from Idaho, and how i was surprised he wasn't mentioned I was actually able to dig up the Children of Metal God Video I was talking about on YouTube!!!!! You really can find anything on the web these days. Anyway I wasted much of my youth watching this on repeat. Here's the the clip of J. Lamastus railing a berm harder than I've ever seen. Prepare to be amazed still to this day it is jaw dropping.

http://youtu.be/iGsnkxcl3y8?t=9m20s

Fast Forward to 9:20 I can't figure out how to get it to play at that mark when It's embedded.
