That picture used to freak me out when I was little. Mark Brelsford and Cal Rayborn I think. Both survived, Rayborn later died racing in Europe(I think).
You got it half right. It's Brelsford and Larry Darr. Darr's bike was acting up and he tried to cut accross the track in front of Mark. He was out for the season with various broked bones but surprisingly no serious burns. He came back but never really was the threat he'd been before that happened.
Cal died after he went to Suzuki in what was sort of a practice race in South America.
Cal died down here in New Zealand. I believe he was taking the place of our top rider Geoff Perry who was a Suzuki teamster and died in a plane crash heading to the states to ride at Daytona.
Weinert hurt his neck, wore the brace, and won with a paddle tire, Oakland Supercross. Was going to ride the amature day on Sunday, it got canceled.[/quote:93ffb]
I bet TBond knew that already. He must have Jimmys original neck brace on a shelf somewhere[/color:93ffb]

I stand corrected. I knew it was some place "south".
The only race I got my wife to. The conditions sucked; it was terrible. The wind was so strong it was picing gravel up from the parking lot and it stung like bb's. The dust was horrible if you were downwind. Then RJ won by like an hour, and the 125 racing wasn't much better. Not a great first experience for her. One of those 130 degree days in the mid 1990's would have been better.

No, I don't think it was that year. I went to Hangtown several times in the '80s, once was the year it rained like hell - not the year in the picture. The rainy year might have been 1989 but the year in the pic was likely '87 as someone pointed out. Don't remember the weather in '87 but don't think it was memorable. I do remember getting a ticket from the CHP while stuck in the traffic jam on the way out for tinted windows on my '86 Mustang GT.
Correct you are........many make the mistake of DeCoster, myself included at first.
When ya look close you can see it is the 1979 500cc National Champ and 1982 250cc World Champ.[/quote:65a3d]
It was late, I was tired, it was at a funny angle, lappers were in my way...or I would have guessed Danny the Door for sure
The second is Steve "Short Stack" Stackable.
