Mike, Do you (or your family) have any regrets about doing the Moto: Inside the Outdoors series a few years ago? Whether the producers did it intentionally or not, that show really painted your dad as the ultimate psycho mini dad.

Only one question, and I wouldn't blame you if you ignore me completely.
Brotocross... He used to be quite outspoken on the negatives of you and your family. But seems to have turned it around recently. Any thoughts on that or him at all

Damn Mike, this QNA has turned out really well. I always knew you and your crew were legit and now a lot of others do as well. I know you live and breathe moto....will line up any where, on anything, if it's a race. Stay cool bro. I think you can assume that the majority around this joint will welcome any insight or comments you have about the races, the industry, or just to talk about lawn maintenance.Woohoo
Yes, without a doubt one of the better QNA'S. It's really cool when the riders engage the questions and interact with their fans.

I would agree this has turned out well for Mike. He had no idea what he was getting in to.

I would definitely say Mike has gained a lot of new fans, and he's earned a lot of respect too. Well done Mike.

Yes definitely the best Q&A yet, I like how you are answering questions and not just dodging past them, well maybe except for the "whats your favourite bike past or present?" question and we all know thats a silly question to ask a pro racer. Some of the past Q&A's on here were just not worth reading "cough Mitch"...

I would definitely love you see you come to Australia for a race or two, maybe one of our pre season stand-alone races like the Manjimup 15000, Australias richest Motocross event?

This has been a great read!

You have gained another fan here... not that I had disliked you before Smile

Hey Mike, I think one of the things that I appreciate the most about you is that you race at some of the smaller local events. Most of the top pros never seem to do anything but the nationals. Gives people a chance to see you ride in a less formal setting.
Best of luck to you in the future, and I do hope that you will make another run at the US outdoor nationals before you end your racing career.

Hey Travis,

I'm going to try to answer this the best I can. I don't know if it will make sense but I hope I can give a little advice.

I feel everyone handles life in their own way. I know I am a very competitive person as I believe my brother is. As kids we always were very competitive with each other. Jeff has a lot of natural talent and I feel I have a better work ethic. We both had success and we both had failures. I believe being encouraging to each other when we were young kept us close. I know there were times we shoved certain things in each others faces as a lot of siblings do.

When you live your life in the "limelight" it takes a certain balance to handle it. I'm not going to lie, there have been times I have gone on here or other social media sites and things people have said have really bothered me… Some things stuck with me for days. I finally learned that it doesn't matter what people I have never met or maybe met a few times have to say about me. I know who I am as a person and I try to be the best person I can be every day. I try to stay humble and let people see me as a person and not a famous superstar that a lot may think I am.

I think the best thing you can do for your sons is to always encourage them and let them know how proud you are of them, even if they don't win a race or get the holeshot lol. Make sure they know you will always support them and be there for them. If one seems to progress more then the other try to balance the "great jobs" between them. Don't give one more attention because he does better or is more talented,

I don't know if this will make any sense to you or will help but I feel its the best answer I can give.

P.S. I wear the tinted goggles because I am very sensitive to light

This is awesome and in my opinion the best QNA so far on Vital. You have spent a lot of time responding to questions and I am sure you have a pretty busy week between races. Its also cool how your brother comes and posts on here; interesting to hear from a pro's perspective from time to time. You guys have taken a lot of flak from keyboard warriors, but I think you guys have handled it very well. Thanks again for doing this, it is always neat when your favorite athlete actually responds to forums like this. Good luck to you and Jeff this weekend!!!

P.S., Sorry, but buy your Mom the mower!!!! lol

Thanks. Got to say I was a little nervous when Guy B asked me if I wanted to do this. Wasn't sure which way it would go since I always seem to have bad press on here. Lol. I like to talk to my fans and I'm actually having a good time doing this. Been trying to fit it in between riding and training. I'm currently on my way to St. Louis. I'm in the Chicago airport right now.
same as anything mike,

you get people sh*t talking, but when you actually meet them (or do a qna) they are like ''oh hi man, hows you doing, love you man''

Thanks and Good luck in Canada!!

Whats up Mike,

Hey I got a Question. When you had that Huge crash at Hangtown in 2008 did you have thoughts about retiring right after you were recovering from it and do you rate that as the worst crash you have had in your Career? And you and your holeshots are crazy bro do you practice your starts more than anything?

Keep up the good work and Wish you luck in Canada
I didn't have a crash at Hangtown in 2008. I crashed at Red Bud. Is that the crash you are talking about? When I got ran over? Back then I was so young. I didn't think about retiring because I knew I had such a long career ahead of me. If that were to happen now a days then my answer would probably be different. Crashes and getting hurt are one of the worst parts of this sport. Last year I basically spent my entire year on the couch. Injury after injury. It really wears on you mentally. And as you get older in this sport the injuries hurt a lot more.
I practice starts about once a week.

Thanks for your question.

I'll just chime in with the fact that you've shown a lot of composure coming on here not knowing what the response would be like. I commend you for that. This place can be brutal at times.

That being said, my question is would you consider sticking around here and contributing with posts from time to time as your brother does? You seem to be able to articulate well whatever point you're trying to make. I think just seeing your responses here this week may have changed the sentiment towards you for more than one person here. I understand it's a small population here in the grand scheme of things, but any positive press is good press.

Good luck the rest of the year.

And you should buy mom that zero turn. One of the best lawn investments ever if you have a sizable yard.
Im not sure if I will post on here. Guess just have to see how it plays out.

Mike,

You've been known to try some rather unorthodox things looking any and all advantages.
From bike setup, training, metal preparation, physical health, etc.

Could you share something you tried that you didn't think would work, which ended up surprising you in it's effectiveness?
You would be surprised how many athletes try unorthodox things. Mine may be know a little more but we all have weird things we do or things we have tried.

Something that I tried and was actually surprised by was starting in 3rd gear. I watched Short do it at a few races last year and was blown away by it. I honestly didn't see how he got such good starts doing it. I tried it and was shocked at how good it was.

I dont regret doing the show because at the time the show was trying to help grow the sport and anything I could do to help this sport succeed I was more then willing. It did paint my dad as a crazy person but just like all reality tv don't believe everything you see.

I think that guy was just trying to be popular in this sport like a lot do. He felt that by picking on me he would get more people to pay attention to him. Did it work ya sure for a little while. In the end though he honestly doesn't know me or the person I am so how can you continue to make stupid stuff up.

Keep your eyes looking further ahead into the corner and out. Keep your leg up close to the side shroud. Elbows up.

Hi Mike

Have you ever have the chance to ride an 'Old School' Motocross bike, if yes, how did you like it?

Best of luck this weekend!

Hello Mike, excellent QNA and your participation is very appreciated. You have had a great career.

What is the most over the top thing that the dork known as "Bobbym" has done as a fan?

Any other fan, over the top incidents to tell?

Best Regards

G

I got one more Question

What year do you think was the best year of your pro Career ever?

Also, How old were you when you raced BMX?
4/15/2016 12:30pm
Hey Mike, do you have a recommendation for an amazing Financial Advisor? Thanks. Wink

(and if I know your mom well enough, better start allocating some money towards the purchase of the mower soon, other wise you'll never hear the end of it... She's un-relenting..) Woohoo

I would like to share my new lawnmower my kid is getting me. They sent me this link thinking this will be a good fit for me. Not too sure how fast I will get 50 acres done but the seat looks pretty comfy. I have the best kids EVER and I can really tell they love me.

Mike thanks so much for doing this question-and-answer you have been doing a fantastic job here.

Check out this hat how rare is this? Woohoo

I'm saving it for when you are in the Hall of Fame.

We camped alongside your future in-laws at the Glen Helen National years ago and had a great time with them.

My question is do you remember when Bobby M said he could do a better job training you than your Dad and you came out with a video and invited him out to see your program?

That was a very hilarious video and showed your humorous side.
Do you still have that?
It is a true classic! Grinning
