Possible concussion?

So I was riding a local sand track yesterday since it was pouring rain and I ended up swapping at the end if a (4th gear) roller section and landing on my back and hitting my head pretty good. Didn't get knocked unconscious but this was the first hit I've had where I actually see stars and couldn't focus my eyes for 15 seconds I'd say. I was wearing a 2013 Bell Moto 9 carbon if that matters. After that I still wasn't quite feeling it the rest of the day(I know I shouldn't have rode) and today I still feel a little out of it and occasionally get very minor off and on headaches. I realize I should go get checked out but the wife borrowed my truck as her car broke and I won't have a way to the hospital until later. Just curious what you all think, do you think I got a concussion or is it just in my head and in fine. Have you guys experienced anything like this and have it turn out to be a concussion

Edit: forgot to meantion sore neck

I don't think it would be necessary for you to go to the hospital. Maybe take it easy for a week or so, but none of your symptoms seem too severe at all. And if you do go to the hospital, they're not gunna do much, they'll pretty much just tell you not to hit your head for another few weeks.

If you feel foggy/fuzzy, and are wondering if you have a concussion, you might have a concussion.

Check inside your helmet for a dent in the foam. if there is one, retire that helmet.

That sounds like a Jeff Foxworthy bit.

If you highside into the deep weeds and, for the rest of the session, all the jump lips are wiggling... you might have a concussion.

I had an off on Saturday, basically I jumped off the side of a tabletop, landed in the soft stuff and it threw me over the bars with the bike following me, fortunately the bike cart wheeled over me. I hit my head but I didn't get knocked out & didn't see stars. Just winded myself. From that moment on, I've had a constant mild headache, no dizzy spells, feeling like I'm gonna throw up or blurred vision. Went to the hospital today, they checked me out & said I was fine. I went for piece of mind.

I'd ride practice at Indy SX Sat. and see how you feel.

But seriously, these symptoms are still in their early stages. Take it easy. Every noggin's different. Sounds like the helmet (and your head) took a big hit. I'd get it checked out.

There is nothing they can do for you other than tell you "yes you hit your head"

Well, yeah that's true haha, but I'd also just like to know for sure if I have one or not. If I do have one, I'd like to know how long I'll need to stay off the motorcycle.

Did you find yourself in a bad mood? The worst concussion I had I was out for maybe 40-50 seconds. The next day I was beyond crabby. I was irrationally angry. That was a big sign for me

Always best to get checked out after a head knock, especially if it retired your helmet. If anything, the peace of mind is comforting.

Any head injury where you see stars is a concussion. Any head injury your dizzy is a concussion. They are graded and your might be light its still a concussion. I would get a check up. If you can afford to ride or race you can afford to see a Dr. You might not think you worth it but there might be someone who does.

If you're asking for medical advice on vital you may have a concussion

For those of you who have had a concussion, how long until it was safe for you to go ride again?

Asking the same question differently over and over again, you probably have a concussion.

most people have no idea how bad a head injury can be. You have a bruise on your brain, when you have a bruise you can see how long does it take for it to heal? That is your answer, most people do not take the proper amount of time to heal,

Everyone and every situation is different.
With post concussion syndrome it can be a delayed recovery.
I've been up to a couple of months before feeling normal again.
You really should get checked out and receive professional medical advice for your specific case.

When it comes to brain injuries, it is never "safe" to ride a dirtbike.

From what I've read, concussions can often have a cumulative impact. Accordingly, riding a dirtbike will never be as safe as it was before you swapped out.

It would certainly be worth the risk to me, if I were in your shoes, to get back on the bike in about two weeks times. But it's important that you're honest with yourself about the irreparable damage you're doing to your body.

Lastly, if you're genuinely concerned, as opposed to just curious, schedule an appointment with a neurologist and explain the situation.

Sorry for the late reply, I went into the doctors office earlier this afternoon and I do have a concussion. Doctor said it can take up to 6 weeks before it would fully heal. He also said it's very important not to hit your head again within the next 7-9 days. So I'll probably give it a couple weeks. Thanks peeps

i have taken a hit to the head when i cross rutted and it all felt almost like a dream. one minute i was riding then all of a sudden, for of my buddies are standing around me asking "you ok?". weird thing is they told me i was on the ground for a while moaning and i had no recollection of doing so. after a while i got up and rode with my buddies for a little bit but i was feeling 100%. when i got home, i noticed that every time i went to lay down. everything was spinning. and it continued to do so for about 2 days.it eventually got back to normal but i was started to get really concerned. so yea im pretty sure i got a concussion. like they said, take it easy for a little bit and you will be alright

My opinion is that no two people and no two concussions are the same. They get worse and worse though, the more you get. I got my last concussion February 23rd of 2015 (snowmobile crash), felt horribly sick the next day, puked my guts out, and wanted to die.I had dizzy spells 1-4 times a day, every single day, until mid-August. I didn't do any sort of riding again until January 13th of this year (snowmobile). The one prior to that had me knocked out for 12 minutes and loopy for a few days. I haven't ridden either of my motocross bikes in almost 3 years now, but I'm thinking about getting back into it a bit. Am I worried? Yeah, a little bit. I bought a Fly F2 Carbon helmet, with MIPS, hoping it's a quality helmet. I may pick up a 6d before I actually put a leg over a bike. My suggestion is to take your time. Give it a few weeks at the very least. What's the hurry?

I had that exact feeling last year. Went mountainbiking alone (stupid idea), felt that all was flowing great. The next thing I know are some strangers asking me if I need any help. I barely know what happened. One of them ended up driving me to the ER to drop me off. My injured brain decided that I didn't want to wait that long so I just rode my bike home and laid on the couch where everything started spinning. This whole episode lasted a complete afternoon and evening, but it all feels blurry and kind of dream like.

Describes my header at Mammoth in '98 perfectly except I was leading on the first lap, came through a shaded landing area about half way through the lap (which I think was freshly watered) and then I was in dreamland.

Didn't think anything of it (neither did my riding buddies). Had a few beers Saturday night and said I'll sleep this off and be ready on Sunday.

Woke Up and still felt foggy. Practice didn't help either. Lined up knowing I wasn't feeling good, but thought I could power through it. 2 of the worst moto's of my life. Luckily, nothing happened.

Learned a lot about the effects of a concussion that weekend. At the very least, should have grabbed some ice water Sat. night and stayed off the bike Sunday. Life is full of shoulda, coulda, wouldas.
