Long Hair

Edited Date/Time 3/14/2016 8:57am
I'm surprised they allow it and don't require it to be "tucked in". It wouldn't be too difficult for Malcom or Vicki Golden to get scalped in a pile up with someone's rear sprocket/wheel. Has it ever happened in women's MX?

Laugh. Would you tell this guy to cut his hair? You obviously didnt live through the 70's or even parts of the 80's.

I'm not sure why OP is copping so much flak would have to think in that first turn crash Malcolm's hair would've been very close to a lot of things that it could get tangled in.. That's a situation I wouldn't wanna be involved in
Just tuck it into the jersey

Malcolm I am guessing won't be racing 450 FIM SX with his current hairstyle.

Yup, it's definitely possible.. Malcom's head was right there next to the rear sprocket when he went down...could have easily sucked his dew right in and scalped him. Vicki Golden's hair is even longer. It just takes once...I wouldn't want to race with long hair.

Malcolm raced a bunch of SX races during the winter months last year with his hair as it is.

Per the rules, it's perfectly legal for another competitor to tackle him by grabbing ahold of his hair.

Malcolm's hairdo of choice has always scared the shit out of me. He's been in his share of wild crashes and I would hate to see the outcome of it getting sucked into a sprocket or wheel. If it can happen to all the legs we've heard of lately in the jaws of life thread, why not hair? If Galleghar is going to ban jeans, why not long hair?

Ha! I had a beard like Barcia's mechanic about 5 years ago and I raced karts with it flowing out the bottom of my helmet....no problem. However, long hair must be tucked in for kart racing for obvious reasons. Someone got scalped and now they have a more strict chain guard rule.

It's only enforced at the GPs.

This actually is a good point, regardless of what some of your responses to the OP have been.

After seeing the jaws of life thread, do we also ban riders with legs? No scalpings yet, but a couple of legs issues IT9, the jaws incident.

Good point. Let them get scalped though. Isn't this one of those things where you're suppose to be smart enough to take care of it on your own instead of being told by the rule book.

Hey bud. You are right and it created an issue. Malcolm wasn't aware of this being a problem but got his chain pulled a couple of times over his hair.

I stand by my post.

It was an issue at one of the Euro SX venues but they gave him a pass/warning according to a FIM official I spoke with.

I vaguely remember something similar happening to Jimmy Weinert back in the 70's when his throttle stuck open, bike went into the crowd and a young lady with long hair was critically injured. I assume her hair got caught in the bike somehow?

Here's a novel idea. How about we let people decide for themselves? Just as if we lived in a free country...

I brought this up in the race thread, but no responses. I don't think the issue is whether or not someone should have long hair, but rather I expected the officials to make them tuck it into the helmet. Malcolm has done this before, I am certain. I don't have a pic but Vicki golden's hair was really long.

They could get tangled up and cause a mess I guess, but It's not like its going to rip his head off or something lol. No worse than ole boys leg at Daytona. Guess riders need to start tucking their arms legs and fingers away also! Laughing

I think Malcolm has hair extensions; they would probably come off if pulled hard enough before sucking his head into a sprocket.

I remember reading about how Jimmy Weinart had crashed into a crowd and there was a young lady who's hair got sucked into his rear wheel,...It messed with his head pretty bad after that...

A young girl I knew got her hair tangled in the tow rope water skiing . The hair loss was not even a real concern, being drug around underwater for a bit behind the boat seemed to be more of a concern.

It happens quick.
