After reading the vital hipster thread, it got me thinking. I love moto culture/ supercross/ cafe racers/ MotoGP, etc. I am a 28 year old skinny jeans wearing, "hipster". However, my dad rides 365 days a year, my brother rides, I have worked on a AMA superbike team and at a moto dealership.
But, I don't ride regularly. I don't own a bike. Financial decisions and housing options leave no space for a bike. It's on the agenda to get a bike soon.
I watch Supercross every Saturday. My wife has fallen in love with the sport and she can't wait for the races and edits to drop.
Am I one of those hipsters and am I not worthy of being a fan? I haven't missed a SX main in 4 years I spend my hard earned money to support moto, purchasing tickets to races, tuning in on Saturdays and posting on social media about the sport to help grow. I read vital and racer x everyday. I like fasthouse and deus ex machina.
Reading on vital it seems like you aren't in the club unless you can jump 100 foot triples, slammed a beer with Roger in '78 and have a mint 98 Kawi 2T.
Just a few observations from a dude who loves moto and anything with two wheels to be honest but wears skinny jeans.

PS I think theres plenty of us lurkers around here that consider ourselves core fans but still cant go out and hit 100 foot triples!
I was hoping for some real discussion on this, but I should have known better about Vital!
Do you even know who the the Seven Deuce Deuce is?
When you translate the 'core' 110ft triples from vital speak, they become 40ft tables in reality anyway.
As for the 'skinny' jeans, if you're over 19, you should really reconsider your fashion choices!
You have to love 2-strokes, ride every day, race every weekend, hate supercross style mx tracks, be into vintage bikes (sorry Newman), clown on someone's choice of gear, clown on someone's choice of jeans, be an expert on neck braces, be an expert on helmets, be a expert on all things moto, bitch because the whoops aren't big enough, bitch because the whoops aren't long enough, bitch about Ralph and Jeff, bitch about Ms.Supercross, bitch about the cost of bikes these days, and generally bitch about everything and everyone at the races. Basically to be a true fan you have to hate everything about the sport.
PS...wear what ever you like dude. I'm sure most of the skinny jeans haters are wearing a creased trucker hat, baggy oversized dad jeans, and a dirty fox shirt with grease and ketchup stains on it.
And what's up with the "skinny jeans hate" thing on vital lately? Grown men wearing flat caps, baggy jeans and a tanktop is just embarrassing in my opinion(thank god for JT$, repping Burberry)!
Pit Row
I have one buddy who has never riden and has zero desire to, but loves watching the races. I have another buddy that lovess to race his vintage bike every weekend who couldn't care less about the racing.
I know a former national champ who doesn't ride and can't stand the industry, and doesn't watch the races he doesn't have to, but its how he makes his living.
Theres so many levels of fandom, you're a fan, not a kook, don't even doubt it.
I laugh a lot any time I hear people get so bent out of shape over the clothes people wear. The shape of people's hats and their tailoring of their pants seem to get some people upset, especially "skinny jeans". I'm certainly not a hipster but I freaking HATE baggy pants although I'm not going to insult somebody for wearing them.
And I'll just leave this photo here of some nice pants.
I understand where a lot of the guys come from with some complaints though. I've been to Southwick twice, and the first time my mind was blown by the track. The, demanding as hell sand surface, the frog pond, the rough as hell downhill that looked like a double black diamond, I was just awestruck that guys could just pick a line and hammer around that place. The next time I went I was disappointed by the track, it had really been sanitized, and seemed more like a superspeedway than a mx track. If I was a rider during that evolution I would be bitching too.
