Has Dungey's performance really been surprising?

I read something interesting in a SX PR, this is the second best start to a season. Dungey has 144 out of a total of 150 points possible, The only better start was by Chad Reed in '08 when he went 147 out of 150.

Impressive to say the least.
I think MC may have something to say about that.

I was thinking the same thing.

Oh, and I'm a bit surprised by the Dunge. I knew he'd be good, just not this good. Or, I thought everyone else would be better. Not sure which is which.

yeah RV had that SOU, just like RC did................Dungey has changed mentally more than anything and confidence the last year and a half has it off the charts..........he goes to the line believing he'll win no matter what
Yea. Steel city. I was standing right there when rv. got him. Great moto. And metty on the podiumSmile

I fully expected Dungey to do exactly what he's doing this season (win most of the races).

Honestly, I'm surprised his competition isn't putting up more of a fight, to be honest. I thought Tomac would have at least one win by now...and I didn't think Roczen and Tomac would have given up this many points this early in the season (I thought they'd be consistently 2nd or 3rd...didn't think I'd see finishes outside the top 5).

I'm not surprised one bit. Think back to 2011 when he was on a bike he was happy with, he beat R V regularly outdoors until Ryan changed bikes. Now, Dungey is on a bike he is really comfortable on and he is making it happen. Watch how good that new bike corners, and how well it tracks, its confidence building.

The way i see it, only canard, seely and Anderson could be close to dungeys level, only they had a proper preseason in a real factory ride, tomac was hurt and didnt test enough his new bike.
All others are on satélite teams, with more or less factory backing, which is far from a real factory ride...even stuwart is on the yosh team, not Suzuki team...
Dungey is now the best racer in usa, in the most reactive factory team....
How can he not be that far ahead of the competition?

JS7 is on the full factory Suzuki. and so is kroc . full factory bike . there is no bike holding back anyone . its the rider . Dungey deserves more credit . people put way to much on the bikes .the last bad bike was the old KTM apart from that the has nt been a bad bike since 08

Anybody who watched any of the races from last year did. Some people just can't get over the "Dungey mode" bullshit that still plagues peoples' opinions of him

If you didn't expect it then you don't really pay attention.. Not one guy in this field has proven they can win enough to overcome the eventual 2 or 3 bad races to beat his consistency to be in front or near the front, and none have proven they could match his consistency. The only guy who beat Dungey consistently in supercross did a lot of winning those years and would limit the bad races to 1 or maybe 2

I know they get full factory specs bikes, so does barcia and other top riders in satélite teams, but the possibilities of changing the bike to suit the riders are much bigger when the factory is directly involved, the range of chances and new diferentes things they can do to the bike is a world apart, and its even more importante from one year to next where they can change designs of certain parts just suit the factory riders choises..
Its not the brand of the bike...its the setup that suits the rider...all wish to find the best possible...only a few have fond it...i guess dungey is now one of them...

Surprised. He doesnt wait to make any moves. More urgent at the start of the race and is more agrressive throughout.

I'm not sure you understand how closely those "satellite" teams work with the "factory" teams. They are basically factory teams with their own semi.

Those guys all get whatever they want in terms of bike mods, parts, and set up....the bike isn't holding them back.

i'm not surprised that he's been performing as well as he has been. dude is and always has been solid.

but i am very surprised at the dominance so far this season, i expected someone to be challenging him but so far with 4 wins and the rest 2nd place... hard to argue with calling him dominant

The only surprise is the lack of respect that Dungey has received during his career....this year may change that...

Yep, he's the modern day Broc Glover. Broc was a super hero, won one of his 5 titles at 17 years of age and got zero respect compared to most guys who won less because he didn't look fast.

In 83, everyone thought Magoo was going to kill him in the 500 series because Magoo was so fast. In reality, the slow looking Glover turned faster laps according to the stop watch and dominated the series.

In observations...it was said that all of Webb's off season races helped him, and hurt his competition...so if that is true, then he would be even better if he raced in the off season.

Every year we hear how stacked the field is. This year that hype is true, all you need to do is look at how close the points are between 2nd through 5th. Yes Dungey is dominating but we have a close points battle for second.

No surprise since he's on a good bike now. The KTM is finally where it needs to be. Dungey ripped on the 450 zook. People give Aldon too much credit.

I think the people that went on and on about the most stacked feild ever crap before the season actually started set themselves up for the sure realization the current feild is not, what i mean is everyone see's names like tomac, roczen, anderson, seely ,hahn, bogle the past stars of the 250 class, injured or returning riders like canard, stewart, pourcel, milsaps etc and factor in vets like reed, short you have yourself a hollywood blockbuster.....on paper.. a star studded line up for sure...but theres holes all through the plot, the script an unrealistic fantasy passed off as one based on true events..but like any bad big budget movie your sold before even seeing it due to great hype and advertising...but the reality is the new comers weren't proven in the class and have been inconsistent with flashes of speed on occasion the injured and returning are basically still just that...about the only thing thats lived up to the scipt is the disgruntled 12yr vet of the class reed staying glued to the leaders rear tyre for a race..bring back 06,07..most stacked feild ever even though there were only 3.

Yeah I read that and thought about 96 also.

When you get to Round 14 before losing I think that's a better start!
