X Games is a Joke

Gaming not a sport

Neither is Bowling

Or Golf... Sorry, but if you can drink, smoke, and eat while you're doing it, it ain't a sport in my book.

Good thing espn has been losing market share the last few years, laid off over 1,000 this month to stop the bleeding. They keep making decisions like that, they will be gone before we know it. Thank abc for buying and ruining them.

And to whomever talked smack on ping pong, curse you bro, curse you like mad.

Gaming, is that like burning one in the van and then going in and running the Foosball Table (soft cork)?

ESPN, this is what Bomani Jones had to say about Cam Newton. Really, how about STFU. Put ESPN on the list with Direct TV, Time Warner, and all the other blood suckers who's time has come and gone.

"Jones referred to Newton as a “blackety-black” quarterback that you can better picture in your mind than Seattle’s Russell Wilson or San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick, which he said plays into why Newton receives criticism for his on-field celebrations.

He also added that there is a “historical lineage that indicates a lot has been done to keep black people from playing quarterback,” despite the fact that five black quarterbacks are currently starting in the NFL and around 10 more are serving as backups.

The ESPN personality later said it is OK to talk about the “simple reality” that the country “does not like black people very much.”

with that being said entities like the U.S. Military would do well to recruit some of these guys for drone, aerial unmanned pilots.

Hand Eye control out of this world.
Flying a military drone is a lot more complicated than playing a video game. As a military drone pilot, you have to be a very good instrument pilot, trained in an actual airplane. Its way more than a video game than some ADD kid is playing. Wink

The finesse of motor skills, and hand eye coordination of top level riders is on the level of surgeons I'd say. Exactly what you want when operating those types of uav's.

Dude yes. Those little fuckers are practically Doctors. I'd let them do open heart surgery on me if they can kill me in Halo fast enough.

if you dont sweat when you do it, it isnt a sport.

Guys at work are constantly bleating about being ' flat out through such and such a corner' .. i casually point out that they are sat on their couch , not actually moving.

In the UK they actually have Sim racing on TV .. bizzarre

It's this TV show where they take a big above ground swimming pool & put a shark in it...

Then, a Disney/ABC/ESPN Programming Genius jumps it...on his Harley.

There was an actual episode of Happy Days where Fonzy jumped a shark. AND IT WAS THE BEST ONE!

"an athletic activity requiring skill or [not and] physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc."

Assuming people here actually race for real, I'd be willing to bet my right testicle that you've all had to face the good old "but how is motocross a sport when all you do is twist the throttle and steer it around a track" from random stick-and-ball-sport people who cannot comprehend how physically demanding it is, nor the amount of skill it takes. Let's not be like those people.

As that definition above clearly states (not that I'd be willing to say that it is a universally accepted definition), physical strain is not a requirement if skill is involved (and skill is not a requirement if fitness is involved). If you say that competitive gaming does not require skill (and use your own experience of casual gaming as a benchmark) your argument is as baseless as the one about motocross not being physically demanding (usually based on something like "I've driven a moped to school without breaking a sweat").

I've been riding and racing motocross for almost 25 years now, and it is the sport in my life (as for most people here, I would guess). But I used to play hockey in my youth and during my teenage years I did compete in what is called "e-sports" (or "eSports" if you so will). Being good in either of these takes a very different set of skills, but they all require skills.

Does it make sense to have e-sports on the X Games? I don't know. To me X Games is about so called "extreme" sports, wherein e-sports does not fit. But perhaps the actual idea behind the X Games these days is to highlight alternative sports, in which case I'd say that eSports definitively fits the mold. But in my opinion it isn't the right forum for e-sports.

Is this in even the slightest way the cause of the X Games apparent demise? Give me a break.

I also fail to see the relation between the deaths and injuries of former (and current) X Games athletes and e-sports in some way belittling their effort? I'm sure it has less to do with that and more with peoples fear of being associated with something that isn't as "manly and dangerous" as extreme sports. Because what could be worse than people NOT thinking that you use an angle grinder to shave your balls once a month.
