While he was off from racing for two weeks he wasn't training to maintain his fitness?

If anything, he had more time on his hands to work on it. When these guys travel, they even have access to facilities on the road. Pretty much every hotel has at least some equipment.

Strictly a personal opinion here but when I see Peick running in the top 5 now I just expect him to fade back. Whatever the reason I don't have confidence he can run that pace of a very talented group of riders. Maybe it's fitness, maybe the competition is just plain more talented than he is. I want to see this guy do well as I like his story a lot. It's another one of those situations where you wonder if he could afford Aldon how good could he really be.

I dont think jgr really expects a title out of Peick, thats on Barcia. Top 5's and the occasional podium, im sure thats expected tho. I like Peick and i thought he was riding good lastnight, but a title i think thats a little far fetched IMHO

Peick definitely isnt in it for the title, and Im sure JGR knows that, but the occasional podium and consistent top 5s are definitely what they want out of him.

I also think he will get better throughout the series, the first race definitely messes with a riders head. He showed that he has front runner speed, he just needs to work on staying on it throughout the race.

He got "moved on" early and was in 8th pretty quick. Then he started settling in and picking up on Davi...for quite a few laps. Then on L-19...poof. Which SUCKS!

Compare that to his lap-times and I think he looks stronger than some folks are saying.
Note: I had to compare some other riders today; however, I didn't look at all of Weston's...I just saw laps in/among my guys at about 1/2 way.

If he has the speed and talent to run in the top 5 for 5-10 laps, he has the speed and talent to run it for 20 laps. It then comes down to focus and fitness. IMO, Peick should expect to be in the top 10 as a weekly goal. Anybody who finishes in the top 10 of a 17 race SX series, is a complete Bad M'fer on a dirt bike.
