I think Reed's missing table cloths was a pretty dramatic event. At least it had a happy ending.

Basically all of the LA SX 1997. What would you even pick for a headline the following day.

MC to Suzuki
Cleaned out twice by Lamson on the same night
Deegan ghosted his RM125 for his only SX win.
Albertyn gets his only SX win, he was supposed to be the slower Suzuki guy.

To me it was Baileys accident..
Me as well (and several others, I see). I felt devastated when I heard the news.
I was getting ready to leave for the Bailey's compound to start working with Gary so I called Darlene to see how things were going. She just started crying and handed the phone to Gary. This was the next morning after the crash.

David is still one of my very closest friends and is enjoying life. That's what it's all about.

Reigning champ Emig busted for pot and dropped from his factory ride after his worst season ever in terms of results.
I was only 15 at the time and I was so disappointed, as I really looked up to him back then. His redemption at the US Open was awesome, and today he is one of my favourite riders of all time. Awesome style, awesome bikes and gear, and he fought through his stuttering to become a commentator on national TV. Also the only one to beat MC for championships while The King was still in his prime.
My point is that Dungey would have to be busted for drugs this season for it to be comparable - it was that big!

MC to Zook was huge, but so was RC from Honda to Suzuki.

Henry´s win on the YZM400 was huge too!

The first backflip back in 2001/2002 (Metzger or Hart, I can never remember...) and the first double backflip (Pastrana) were all over TV the first time they happened. More than any race/racer I've ever seen...

I was in 7th or 8th grade at the time and I remember my best friend coming into school and telling me. I was standing outside our gym. He knew how much of a Bailey fan I was and I asked him if he was serious and I pretty much knew he would not joke about that. Even though I did not know David, it hit me pretty hard because I idolized him. He sure is a great role model on and off the track and I am glad to hear he is enjoying life. I did get to say hi to him briefly in 2005 or so at the Seattle sx and he was incredibly nice. I had him sign a ticket for me and this young kid leaned over and quietly asked me who he was. He didn't seem as impressed as I was, but if he only knew. Smile

Right. And he RETURNED in 95'.

In my opinion, his return to the sport was much bigger than the retirement.....or maybe it was to me.
