So my younger brother Jacob, part time poster and full time lurker here on Vital, finally accomplished his dream of owning a Honda dealership. Jake has poured his heart and soul into his work for the past 11 years, working at the local Honda shop, and I can say without doubt - he is passionate about his work!

It has been a long process, with a few setbacks and bumps in the road, but everything was finalized in Nov and Jake is now the proud owner of his Honda shop!

Cool Congrats dude, I am very happy for ya!

Congratulations! I've always dreamed of owning a motorcycle shop. Did it require a lot of start up money or was he able to get a loan for everything? I always wondered what was required to do something like that.

Two questions:

1. Is there a VitalMX member discount?
2. Do they ship anywhere in Canada for free Wink

In all seriousness... Congrats to your brother. Looks like a great shop. Next time I am in that neck of the woods I will be sure to stop in.

Its definetly an older established business, Newmann.

Its been here in our small town since the early 1980s. I can vividly remember going in there as a 7 or 8 year old and just staring at the CR80s and XR100s they had, brand new all orange and red and with blue seats. The old crank who ran it at the time ( Tongue ) wouldn't let us touch anything!! I spent so much time day dreaming about those bikes!!

Jake had worked there for the past 11 years, after spending some time before that at a Yamaha dealership, and he just fell in love with the business, the brand, and the people around it. Its been a long process but he finally made it happen.

Since it's well known that Vital members only hear what they want to hear, I'll be expecting my discount on my first order.

Already listed you guys on my vital page so you can expect the ROI to start flowing in to the shop. Best decision you guys ever made!

Makes for great, cheap storage. And you don't need a building permit or pay property taxes for them!

Yeah, I know... I was in the fireworks business... you don't put all your eggs in one basket and keep them far enough
apart.. but I would put new crated motorcycles in them...

I thought you were in Slave, not High Prairie! Do you know Harold Bellerose, Darrell Gill, Leo Forseille, Bob Calhoon? Any of those guys? I was production superintendent for PennWest for a few years. Bob Calhoon and my son played AAA hockey in GP for a few years as well.

I spent almost 10 years in Slave Lake, but have been in High Prairie for the past few years.

And although I recognize a few of the names you listed, I can't say that I personally know any of them.

The motocross scene SUCKS here in High Prairie, we have to go to Grande Prairie, Peace River or Slave Lake to hit a track.

Hoping now that Jake runs a "moto - related" business we can form a club and maybe work towards building a track here in town. That's the dream anyways...........

Thanks for all the good vibes everyone. The dealership has been in business in the same location sense 1979, I remember going in there as a kid and dreaming of one day being able to buy a bike from there, I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would end up owning the place. I started working here in 2005, as the shop helper and PDI guy, I worked my way through my apprenticeship and got my Red seal as a motorcycle mechanic. Two years ago my boss had heart problems and told me he was going to put the dealership up for sale, and if no one wanted it he was going to shut it down because he didn't have the drive to do it anymore. I didn't have very much going for me and didn't think that I had a shot at getting the money, but my wife and I prayed about it and we felt like we at least had to try, long story short 2 years latter we got the papers signed up and own the place. Some people may not believe in God, but I know how much I prayed in those 2 years and I know that without Him I would have given up when things looked like they weren't going to work out. I'm really looking forward to the next few years there's lots that I've wanted to do with the place but my boss was never on board. If any of you are ever in the area stop by, and yeah I'll give 15% off to anyone tells me their on vital lol

I was very lucky, because I've been my bosses right hand man for so many years he made it very easy on me, I bought the building and land from him and instead of paying him for the business and the good will he still has shares in the company, once I have a few years under my belt I can buy out the rest of his shares and he'll be on his merry way. So I was able to get the loans that I needed for the purchase because they were all tired to the purchase of the land and had assets to back them up. Ordinarily a person would have to come up with the money for the business and good will on there own, banks won't lend money for it because there's no assets they can reclaim if you default on your loan.
