I didn't see anyone mention it on here. I thought it was pretty cool to see him on there. They gave props to the SX series coming up. And dang , it looked like he was right up by the front rows too. Had some great seats.

I was never interested in UFC at all - that it was rubbish. But Conor McGregor started creeping up in my periphery, the odd cheeky press conference vid via friends Facebook etc, then my brother dragged me to a bar to watch the McGregor Aldo fight... Now I can totally see how that sport is growing so fast in popularity. To watch any sport, you just need to give a shit who wins. I can watch football twice a decade when its the world cup, because Im invested enough to want UK to win, so it makes it watchable for me. However, I will never, ever care which town beats each other, I just do not care, so I'll never watch the premier league. Just like my brother will never (despite my best efforts) get into moto, it takes too much homework to back a horse, it takes a fair bit of research to care who wins and become invested. The laughable corporate podium talk does nothing to hook in people on the fence like my brother. UFC was so good because the premise is so simple, and at the start of the fights just from the intro vids, you naturally start rooting for one of the guys, you have a horse in the race off the bat and suddenly, UFC, which for years looked to me like homo erotic violent spooning, is suddenly interesting. Helps the sport of course having huge characters like McGregor.

God damn, I hope there are some Reed vs Bubba'esq rivalries in the pipeline. For some reason, looking into my crystal ball, I see Roczen vs Webb being a bitter rivalry down the road.

Any sporting event can be awsome as long as it's exciting. Or if you understand it and appreciate it but mainly if it's exciting is what matters. I did not see roczen last night but the fights were good for sure.

yep this is exactly how I feel.. After those vids I'm like, I want that dude to win.. But once they start getting on the ground wrestling I lose most of my interest.. What I am waiting for though, is all the medical reports in a few years, I'm assuming you can only have a few of those ground and pound late stoppages without it stacking up the brain problems..

Funny now that you mention the rivalry stuff. The UFC and SX seem to be on the same level currently in that they are struggling to form great rivalries.

SX currently has a few rivalries, but none on the level of JS vs. CR, or JS vs the GOAT, or any of the previous intense rivalries. Webb seems to be willing to talk a big game and seems to be able to back it up.

About 10 years ago, the UFC had a LOT of characters that made for some good rivalries. Rashad Evans, Chuck Liddell, GSP, Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, Forrest Griffin, and a slew of others. My favorite though was the Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva buildups. Chael Sonnen said some of the most off the wall stuff. Below is one of the funny interviews he did. Chael should have patented talking shit because he wasn't afraid of saying anything. Too bad he couldn't back it up in the arena against Silva.

Now both sports biggest stars are Dungey and Weidman. . . Both are just humble dudes that keep their mouth shut and let their domination do the talking. While it's respectable, it doesn't make much noise outside of their competition.

Since you brought up podium/interviews with the athletes, they basically muted everything nate Diaz had to say after his fight. This place would go crazy if they muted out a riders comments after a race.

I found myself one Sunday a month or so back inside, watching tv, and some mma competition show came on with MacGregor leading a bunch of Euros and some other guy leading a bunch of Americans. I couldnt turn it off. That MacGregor dude is quite the character, but he was really into his craft too.

As far as the next big grudge match, hate war, ego driven rivalry in the sport of sx....I dont know where its going to come from if not Webb. If we role play here, I would say Webb is to Reed as ??? is to Bubba. ??? cant be a nice/quiet guy like Jeremy Martin....Marvin sheds too many tears...maybe Roczen....Eli's got some stones, maybe him.

I know to most that are new to MMA the ground game can be perceived as boring, but once you get into it more you start to appreciate the technical nature of that part of the sport. It's super difficult, highly taxiing on the body, and extremely technical/strategic. Don't disregard that portion of a fight. I relate it to the first time I ever watched Endurocross compared to Supercross or MX. I really didn't get into Endurocross at first, now I totally dig it. That doesn't mean I don't like SX, MX, or AX any less. I just appreciate it equally.

On a sidenote, while Roczen was on tv at a UFC event...did anybody catch Ryan Dungey this week on Martha Stewart Cooking on the Create channel?

My wife was watching it and some guy in a funny orange shirt came on with Martha and she pointed it out to me. Kind of odd. Dry

You are right. It's a result of ignorance. At least you have the decency to admit it. DirtDiggler is exactly like the people who complain about MX and it's image. UFC competitors are world class athletes. Nothing less. They've worked their entire lives to become one of the best at their sport. And they get paid famously to do it.

I hate basketball. But I don't shit on every single basketball athlete when 1 idiot beats on his wife. And I don't blast their sport and call them all thugs. I can recognize they're world class athletes and worked hard to get where they are. (Last paragraph directed toward Diggler)

What turned me off was it became a fad sport or fashion sport with every poser wanna be wearing all the various crap.
The fights became a commercial to buy poser shirts.

That never happened with boxing.

Plus....too many of the fights look planned out like wrestling.
Boxing, they go till someone hits the deck.

I guess its a way for people who cant get a real job to make some money.

And beat the shit out of your chick too.
