Motocross boots????

So I just broke my leg yesterday and I already miss my bike and I want to get new boots that will keep my leg from braking do you know of any boots that have like a metal bar going up the boot leg if not whats a realy strong boot that you would recomend for me that would hopefully keep my leg safe as best as possible

In my case, the Sidi Crossfire supported my ankle and foot so much, it transferred the impact to my leg. So ask yourself how much worse it could have been with cheap boots.

Installin some metal in my leg was way easier than repairing ligaments.

Yeeeaaa... I'm not so sure that Sidi's do anything to protect the ankle in any other way than lateral movement. I've never understood why people think Sidi does protect the ankle well.

thats true, I have felt my plate on my leg "bottom out" on the top of my foot (in my sidi's) and I screamed like a little bitch...Whatever happened in that particular impact that I had, the boot did its job.

Tech 10s are fantastic. I had Fox Instincts last year but they got soft like rubber boots in 20h and i rolled my ankle almost every time i overjumped a jump. Then i got 2 pairs of the Tech 10s and they are so freaking good. The ankle support is top notch, the quality is top notch and the looks is top notch!

According to MXA, the SG12 is 4.75lbs and the Tech10 is 4.55 lbs. That's not much difference. I got the SG11 which are 4.35 lbs if weight is a big concern.

I'll add another vote to Tech 10's. I have about 80 hours on my current pair and the soles are in phenomenal condition as well as the rest of the boots.

Here's the bottom line: If you crash hard enough, something has to give. It's either your ankle or your leg, pick one. Any doctor's opinion is going to be your leg all day long... tendon and joint damage is hard to recover from and last way longer than a broken bone.

Here's the example of too much support: my hockey skates. If you pay attention to hockey at all, none of those guys really every get ankle damage (unless they get hit with a shot but they have shields for skates now). I've seen plenty tib/fib breaks though (a la Stamkos). I know someone else too... caught and edge on his skate while stopping and spiraled his tib/fib. Now he has a rod. What next now that there's hardware up to his shin? -- his knee. Eventually too much support bites you in the butt, but at that point you're so wrecked it doesn't really matter.

And the example of not enough support will be damage to your ankle ... worst case Ontario you dislocate it and then have to get it fused because the ball/socket crushes.

Personally, I wear Gaerne SG12... hate the booty. I trust any footwear that comes from Italy.

Tech 7 - Size 10 - 8lbs 8.8oz
Instinct - Size 10 - 8lbs 10.1oz
Crossfire SRS - Size 10 - 8lbs 12.9oz
Tech 10 - Size 10 - 8lbs 14.7oz
SG11 - Size 10 - 8lbs 15oz
Crossfire SRS 2 - Size 10 - 9lbs 1.4oz
SG12 - Size 10 - 9lb 9.7oz

Durability is phenomenal, protection is phenomenal. And I don't know what the weight is on a pair, but I'll bet they're lighter then those boots (I know they are lighter then Tech 10's and 7's

Just picked up some SG12's after a 15 year stint w A Star. Messed my ankle up pretty good over the summer and the SG12's provide the best support and protection IMHO. But can't go wrong w SG12's or Tech 10.

I like how my instincts are snug. I have chicken legs and size 10 fit great.

But I don't think a boot can prevent your leg from snapping.

What about sg10. Anyone have those and instincts ? Which you like better? Does it have more support ?

I weighed my original crossfires and my new crossfire2's the other day and both pairs weighed 8.2lbs no difference in either. Size 11.5

I have a vulnerable ankle that needs protection. I found the sidi crossfire's didn't have enough ankle protection/support for me. Tech 10's do, they've been fantastic at looking after my ankle and I find them incredibly comfortable. If you don't like the bootie, which some don't, the SG11-12's are good, and hold up better to wear. The SG's are made in Italy while the Tech 10's are made in Croatia.

It's true that the force of an impact or twist will travel. If the ankle and shin is protected the force will travel to the knee. If the knee is braced the force will travel to the femur area. Pick your poisonEvil

I've got a season on mine now and they are just starting to get flexible. Very happy with them.

All the weights I provided are from brand new boots, never ridden in. Were the weights you examined from new boots?

My instincts do that. To the point where I considered case saver foot pegs. My ankle still sore from flat landing on my toes and my heel just dug into the ground, and toes touched my shin it felt like. Wish they had front lock outs like they have read hyper extension lock out.
