Welcome to Vital!

While I don't have a 125 set up for Enduro, I have been thinking about it for awhile. It's not the conventional choice for off-road racing, but that's kind of what is drawing me to it. Something different.

Dirt Bike Magazine was thinking the same thing this year.

Here is some inspiration Wink

My wife got a 150 last year for off road. The 125 is also a great size. They are awesome on tight technical trails, over logs, rocks, and on mtn bike trails. The only down fall is the power to go up long steep hills .

Mine isn't specifically set up for enduro, but I ride long distance trails and scrambles on it a few times per season. I have a works connection skid plate, heavy duty tubes and acerbis moto hand guards. You could go for the bigger tank and 18in wheel, but you're starting to add a good bit of weight with those things. I usually carry a back pack with a few water bottles of gas and that suffices for a 50-60 mile ride at a good clip.

The pros:
-Lightweight, easy to maneuver in technical trails
-Plenty of power if you keep your momentum up and think ahead
-Better on gas than 250T/300. Still not as thrifty as a 4 stroke tho
-Cheaper to buy and mod than a 250 or 300

Cons:
-Zero low-end torque
-Doesn't feel as sturdy as a 250. As in, I feel like a gnarly crash would tear it up worse than a bigger bike. Might just be my perception.

If you're a smaller guy (I'm only 5'7") and are able to adjust your riding style, I think it's a good choice and I like being one of the only ones out on the trails with a 125.

Check out the Enduro World Championship. They have a 125 class w/ some pretty sick set ups! You can track down alot of the riders on the EWC Instagram. Those boys rip on those bikes! I would start w/ a 150xc or yz125 w/ a BB kit. Those 150xc's are supposed to rip off the showroom floor.

As you currently have one in the garage, like I did, it'll do the job. They're hard work to keep on song while threading through trees or negotiating obstacles. It's fine hustling one along on an MX track or a sprint Enduro, but when you're hammering through a three or four mile section of trees barely wider than the bike, and trying to pass people, it's hard work. Power wise they'll climb anything a 300 two stroke or 650 four stroke can, it's all down to technique. The only plus point is they're easy to physically drag out of a ditch, although you shouldn't need to if you're a having a good day.

My YZ125 has Enduro legal tyres. glide plate, big Acerbis tank, HGS pipe and a fair bit of pre-load wound off the rear shock, although it'll be fine left standard.

Heres another. Do you have a YZ, or what brand is it?

I've got my CR125 suited well for enduro.... and that's how I'm going to leave it. I just picked up a 250 for moto. Here it is in action at the Jack Pine Enduro this summer! I was REALLY rusty....

Here it is in moto Trim.
I took a tooth off the front sprocket and added 1 in back..... it helps lug my 200 lb fat ass around !

Gave them a head start. Both tires are flat, hence backing off before the dozer cuts/spoon drains. They still got in the way.

I'm 6/2"and over 200lbs. Around 100kilo in gear

"Steep sections".

Slightly technical ST (rear axle dug into the side of the rut).

Faster ST. Front end was pushing through the corners pretty bad.

All videos are from the same ride. I run Tu-Bliss but both tires were flat. I'm a 45yr old smoker and not even close to being fit. Closer to dying.

I got the KTM 150 XC, the XC differs from the SX with a wide ratio transmission, oversized tank, kickstand, oring chain, 18" rear wheel, and softer suspension valving.
So I didn't add much; just radiator braces, a tool kit in the air box, scotts damper, and hand guards (which came in a bag with the bike)
She does great on MX tracks and tight single track.

OP not sure what kinda bike you got?

Thanks mate! Yeah exactly, there's something about the way you can just make it do whatever you want in the bush with pretty much no consequences Silly That dirt bike magazine build looks mint!

Thanks r.sal, they're all the things that I've noticed as well. The only thing I'm kind of worried about is getting traction on slippery hill climbs, but if it's faster everywhere else, than no biggie, right?

Yeah, cheers mxdude, sounds like you've got a pretty sweet setup Wink I probably will chuck on a bigger tank, with the goal of doing a two hour cross country with no pit stops. The weight isn't a huge issue for me (I'm about 55kg) and yeah the way the 125 encourages you to attack everything is so much fun!

I'll ride a couple hare scrambles on my YZ125 every year and all I do is slap some handguards on it. My gearing isn't great for off-road and my suspension is too stiff but its still fun.

If I was going to dedicate that bike to off-road I'd do the following
1. Soften up the suspension
2. Go up two teeth on the rear sprocket
3. Cut the bars down 1/2-1" on each side and install bark busters
4. Lean out the pilot and needle
5. Install a skidplate, radiator braces and pipe guard

Yeah good points Mr Happy, I'll be honest, I'm pretty comfy riding through the trees in the band but I get what you're saying. Sounds like you've got your bike fairly dialled Cool Suspension is something I'm just gonna keep testing throughout the off season

I raced my 05 YZ 125 for 3 years cross country / enduro. Raced AMA West and District 36 (California) with pretty good success, a few top 3's at a Nationals.
B Super Senior class 50 years+

Changed springs for my weight.

Utah Sport Cycle Skid plate

Applied Top clamp with Fastway mount for GPR Stablizer

OEM pipe w/ Leo Vine silencer w/ spark arrestor screen

RB Designs 38mm TMX carb mod. Michined a nice divider plate on the intake side. Add a little bottom but really helped with jetting for different altitudes.

Clark 3.2 gallon tank

7602 Racing Carb breather kit

V Force Reeds

13/ 48,50 & 51 gearing....depending on course.

TM chain buffer and guide

Tugger Strap

Pretty much a budget weekend racer with reliability in mind.

I have a Lectron carby and a 7.5 liter tank. I get 4 hours ride time, 2 hours wouldn't even use half a tank. The Lectron won't cost a whole lot more than an OS tank and won't destroy your ergos.

Call Dave at TSP if you're Interested. http://twostrokeperformance.com.au/

He has a face book page as well.

167cc and you'll destroy KTM200's.

Again. Call Dave at TSP for a BB setup Wink

I wouldn't bother with a 144 kit again. Slightly easier to ride but no faster. I don't ride a small bore because I want to do it easy.
