By "way better" do you mean outdoor activities, jobs, entertainment, things to do?
probably way more jobs available in TX, but the outdoor scene really sucks. (flat as a pancake most of the area, and hot as crap). NC has us beat in that regard easily.
houses are CHEAP here. a house in TX for 300k would cost 600k in NC.
entertainment? well if youre near houston, dallas, or austin, probably has NC beat easily on that as well. those are massive cities.

^^This. You can't practice at Gatorback. Only race 2-3 times a year. I live 20 minutes from there. 1.5 hour drive to nearest track, with some single track. Hard Rock in Ocala. Very little public riding land in the state. Lots of commercial agriculture, it's taking over.

lol we got 3 palms 10 miles down the road, and the boot camp is only 23 acres. He does have the 600 yard gun range though!

I have a house on the eastcoast of Fla. in Jupiter, far enough south that its always summer & when I come down from NY & that is what I want. I have 2 places that I ride, Thundercross & Mesa park, both about 45-1 hr away. I have not made it to L-cross yet, they dont seem to be open much during the week. Have a friend who has place on the west coast near Croom riding area, I think the west coast of Fla has more riding options than the east coast. When I bought my place in Jupiter I was thinking about more than just riding spots, I wanted to be close to the ocean for the rest of my family to enjoy. If you come to Fla. you better like the heat & the sand! Does anyone from Fla reading this know of a natural terrain track near Jupiter/ WestPalm area? Also heard Dean is no longer running Thundercross, is this true?

IIIIII wouldn't bank on that. You can find housing in NC at very reasonable prices, just depends on where you live. It's not going to be any near as much as living around Houston, Dallas or maybe even Austin.

Also, night life wise, NC isn't bad (I've been to Houston and lived in Dallas for summer). Charlotte is where you will find the most offerings, but don't overlook Raleigh/Durham, Greensboro, or Wilmington.

Also, another thing that is great about NC is that nothing is too far from anywhere. From where I live, in the middle of the state, the beach (NC/SC/VA) is four hours max, the mountains is four hours max, Atlanta is 5 hours or under and DC is 5 hours. Orlando FL is 9 hours, South Florida (Miami) is 12 hours and NYC is 12 hours. I've made all of those drives and they aren't bad at all, not even Miami and NYC.

I'm from Tampa area and live in Austn tx.

Ummm Texas WAY better in every aspect, except moto, less riding areas than Florida. Dade City and Bithlo, way better Saturday night racing than any where else in the country
Hope you get well soon by the, way!
Thx! Finally on the right track!

There are tons of in and outs in the Dallas area too. Dallas is a great place to live. The heat can be brutal for a month or so but besides that it's all good. If we had mountains it'd be perfect but you'd be surprised at some of the hills you can find. It isn't as flat as we sometimes like to say it is. If you live in the Dallas - Ft Worth Area there are 5 tracks within 1-1.5 hours away that are open weekly if not several days each week. There are also great tacks within 2-2.5 hours away like Swan in Tyler TX.

Housing costs and the cost of living is still good here but it's on the rise. We have a good amount of recreation here (mx tracks, mtb trails, etc) but Texas is not as off-road friendly as some might expect. Off-road parks and trails (not including mtb) are pretty scarce. We do have a few within a couple hours of Dallas but most people in Texas would rather spend millions on highschool football stadiums...

I'm 30 minutes east of the Charlotte area and there are plenty of places to go ride. Whether it's Moto or trails. Being in the southern part of the state gives you better options for places in SC too, ie Club MX. Not to mention that Charlotte is 3 hours to either the crazy GNCC style trails and 3 hours to the beaches with sand track like County Line MX. Plus there are plenty of other things to get into as well.

I moved to north TX in 1998. Flower Mound is a northern suburb of Dallas and Ft Worth, and its southern border is Lake Grapevine. This area has some the best mountain bike trail systems in all of TX. The trails are mild to extreme and are managed by DORBA. Road biking in this area is also very popular. There are clubs and retailers of high end bikes everywhere. I personally have a Scott and Specialized mtb's and Trek road bikes and always have friends to ride with.
Jobs and career growth are unlimited. My nephew just graduated from UTD (University of Texas at Dallas) with a BS in computer science. He had a job within 2 weeks for $67K as a 22 year old. Finding work is not a problem for people with a skill and/or education.
Entertainment, bars, night clubs, car clubs, sports, concerts, gambling, and cultural things at the Arts District, Dallas/Ft worth has it all. Its too big not to. If you're into it........its here.
For Moto, to me its the best in the US. I've lived in IA, IL, MO, and KS before moving here. I've vacationed and rode tracks in FL, NM and CO. Good tracks as well but nothing compares to the Texas sandy loam dirt period.
I have 4 tracks within a 1 hour drive from my garage. 3 of them I can be unloading my bike in 50 minutes or less.
I also have Swan, Three Palms (Conroe,TX ) and Freestone that I've been to but are longer drives.
Village Creek, River Valley and Oak Hill are close and I can ride at least 5 days a week between those 3 tracks.
Tracks down here are professionally built, prepped and their schedules are on Facebook, Their websites or you can have instant phone notification if you sign up.
The heat in the summer is too hot for too long. When I moto however, I actually love it. Riding the mtb or road bike, not so much. But one positive is hot chicks and hot mom's in the short shorts out and about all the time. Hot weather is good for some things.
In the winter you can ride all year. I break a sweat puttin in moto's even in January so that pretty much explains that.
Personally, I couldn't have picked a better place to live with my hobbies than here.

I've lived in High Point NC and Phoenix AZ. I would pick Phoenix for riding and the outdoor lifestyle. Nowhere else in the country will you find more houses with three car attached garages and also a 5-6 car detached RV garage with a casita but Phoenix. Everyone has a camper, sxs and 2 motorcycles. Plus the fact that you are in the triangle for 4-5 supercross races, GH is close enough for the outdoor nationals and most important, the bike dealers in Phoenix and LA/Orange Co. are unmatched anywhere else in the country.

Now if motorcycles were not as big a deal, NC is almost perfect with location, great people and good weather.

I liked both places.

BANG! That's it and a fact, Jack! I live in the Western part of the state. Tracks and dirt are awesome and some of the best plain old off-road riding available in the country. However, all of the open space most folks see when they drive thru the state is an illusion. Vast majority of the states lands are privately owned, so you have to join a club. My club (20 years old) does have the rights to a 17,000 acre ranch leased.

AZ all the way. We have great desert riding, technical single track, some decent moto tracks, and great sights to see.
Lots of cool places to go camping where you can ride as well.
The tracks aren't super amazing but there's a few good ones. ACP is ALWAYS prime. Canyon is hit or miss (but a 20 minute drive for me). ET out east is good. Motoland is casa grande as well. One of my buddy's friends is actually about to open a facility as well. From my understanding, there will be something like 4 tracks. There will also be utv tracks as well.

Make a drive out here to see how you like it. I'd be happy to show you around.

Oh and.. yes it does get hot in the summer but we have night practices. Between that and stand up jet skis, summers arent that bad.

If you come to Eastern NC hit me up and I can hook u up with places. If it was my choice I would go Texas. Some of the tracks down there look epic, and that red dirt.
Hog heaven is awesome and they have started opening on a regular basis again.

I live about an hour east of Dallas. There are 10 or more top level tracks with in 2 hours from me. 4 or More places to trail ride. Most tracks here have lights or a night track. It's Texas so of course job market is good and no income tax. Win win win
9/3/2015 11:02pm
I've lived in TX and now live in AZ. I highly prefer AZ to TX. Weather is better (AZ is hotter, but the rest of the year is better). As other have noted about the tracks, pretty good but not great in AZ. Sure could use a few more, but the ones we do have are fun and the track owners for the most part are good folks. We have fantastic single track riding - desert and in the mountains. You're 3 hours from the dunes and your 4 hours from Ocotillo Wells/Superstition which is some of the finest desert riding on the planet. In AZ, you have endless amounts of public land to explore - TX, not so much. AZ has the mountains (TX doesn't) and if you get sick of the summer heat, you can drive 2 hours and get cooler weather in the mountains. Great gun laws in AZ (the most Pro-Firearm geography on the planet). Very good hunting in AZ. Low taxes (yes we have a state tax, but our real estate taxes aren't outrageous like they are in the nicer parts of TX). Job market is diverse. AZ has mountains for skiing/snowboarding in the winter yet great weather and lakes for boating. Phoenix area is ~5 hour drive from Vegas and ~6 hours from the beaches of CA. We love it here. My biggest regret is losing Grinding Stone MX a few years back.

Dean left Thundercross last month and took over Bithlo and renamed it Orlando MX Park. Thundercross is now called Florida CyclePark.

I just moved back to Tx from a 6yr stint in AZ if you like to RACE MOTO avoid AZ like the plague. Only 3 reliable tracks in the valley, it's seasonal and the dirt sucks ass bad. But if you just like to ride off-road then it's a wonderland. I could go on for days about the Moto here in Tx it's that good.

Im totally content with having 3 tracks in the valley as long as they are within 1 to 1.5 hours from wherever I am and I can ride couple night practices during the week. Im more into building and riding natural terrain jumps as well as having a variety of different terrain and types of riding within a,few hours. I think AZ has everybody beat in that aspect. No?
